We definitely overdue Christmas. I try for one big gift for each then several others. I don’t worry so much about dollar amount but try to even put the number of packages. DS1 wanted a gaming laptop that was very expensive so he’s getting that and a bunch of small things. DD wanted an Airtrack for tumbling and a set of uneven bars. Each are several thousand dollars. She’s not getting the bars but DH found an Airtrack on EBay we took a risk on. I got baby C a small balance bike the goes from tricycle to bicycle. I still need to find T’s wow gift. He asked for a lot of small junk.
I got DH a lot of stuff already. No hot tub though, we may get that for his 40th in March. I got a lot done on Monday and Tuesday this week. Today is the day T is home so nothing today. I’d love to finish this week so I can start wrapping next week. I did buy all the wrapping stuff and the stocking stuffers.

I have 1 thing for M2. I really need to get on it, but it’s so hard when you already have all the toys from an older sibling. I want to get them the same amount of presents because last year M made a big deal about wanting or having more than. I know he gets it from kids at school, but I don’t want him to be that person. I need to do something like a toy donation with him to teach him to be grateful for whatever it is he has. We talked a little about being thankful the last holiday, but I need to do something more. A is getting a new toy, diapers, formula and some books we already have but don't read often wrapped. I just need him to have an equal number of presents as the other two, but he doesn't really need anything! His stocking will be a Baby's first Christmas ornament and baby food.

guster, presents from me and mh show up whenever they get wrapped. Santa's show up Christmas morning since Santa comes in the night. In our house Santa fills her stocking and brings her 1 or 2 gifts.

Question for those of you who split the gifts between yourself and Santa. Do you put your gifts out any earlier or does everything just show up on Christmas morning? We do gifts to/from each other on Christmas Eve, after church. That was my tradition growing up and I just love it. Go to Church, come home and stay dressed up, eat appetizers all night, drink wine (adults only😉) while taking our time opening presents Christmas morning we open presents and stockings from Santa. (Santa fills all our stockings, but only presents for the kids)

I put everything out Christmas morning. My aunt usually mails the kids something so I'll put those under the tree when they arrive though.

I put out all gifts Christmas eve after they go down. Only because the temptation would be too much at this age, as they get older, I'll just bring up their Santa sacks Christmas eve. ETA: we do Christmas Eve at my Mom's, open all gifts from her and she opens hers from us.

We open all of the extended family gifts on Christmas Eve. It takes a long time, and is very messy and overwhelming, but it makes everybody super happy. We have only ever done presents from Santa, but if we decide to change that this year or in the future, I was wondering how others handle it.

I used to unwrap all of my gifts under the tree and then re-wrap them.

Children don’t believe in Santa over here. Growing up I never got presents at Christmas, because we have Sinterklaas. Things are a little different nowadays. Dh and I normally give each other a nice gift Christmas Eve, pared with wine and nice food. I usually throw in a nice lingerie set too. This year we decided not too, I might still get a nice set as a surprise though. Us dutch invented a second Christmas Day, so the kids will get presents from my parents and sister the morning of December 26th.

I put gifts out as I wrap them (knock on wood but the kids are pretty good at resisting temptation thus far). The only ‘new’ presents that show up on Christmas morning are from Santa, and they are not wrapped and just displayed.

Mine really isn’t close. It says Madison WI, Omaha NE, and Springfield IL. I know some of that is because I say some things different than the norm here (I say soda, not pop).

I mentioned before that we are Jewish but don't really celebrate. I decided this year to go big on Hanukkah for the kids. The first night (sunday) we had my parents and my BFF and her family over so I decided they wouldn't only open presents from them, and open 1 present per night from us for the rest of the week. That afternoon I realized I had been so focused on S that I literally had nothing for B. Neither kid needs anything, but that is just not fair! I ordered some stuff on Amazon and ran out Monday at lunch to pick up something small for B to open. I got him a $2 ball with Mickey mouse on it from CVS and he loved it. As to your second point, our town does a tree where you can pick a tag with stats on a kid who needs presents. I do it every year and take S with me to p/u the present. I will start with B once he understands. We spend a lot of time discussing that not everyone is able to get lots of presents or have X or Y like he does. I also donate all of the old baby stuff to a woman in town who works with teen moms in a neighboring low income town. I make him help me collect stuff and drop them off too.

I took the quiz and got the 3 cities nearest to me. I got 2 cities near me (us) and Tulsa, OK randomly. Also, I think some of the questions aren't really accent. Like Mischief Night. I didn't realize until a few years ago that that is really only done in NY/NJ. So once that question is answered, it pretty much narrows down the location!

My good girlfriend celebrates Hanukkah and has theming the nights. I love following along on her Instagram because it looks like her kids are really enjoying it! She also has the most adorable Mench on the bench.

Y'all. I'm so embarrassed. My attorney just pointed out that I have 3 tampons sticking out of my back pocket. I put them in there this morning to put in my purse. I went to the ENT, daycare, gas station and grocery store like that. No one said anything.
Awesome.

lahdeedah like jewels, we do a couple "adopt-a-child" projects at the holidays; we had 2 this year so I took B out with me to do the shopping, and it was a great opportunity to talk to him about helping other families, how fortunate he is, etc. I think esp. b/c our children were boys, he really got into choosing toys and clothes that they would like. Salvation Army does the Angel Trees and those are pretty widespread/accessible, if you are looking for an idea

We have an enormous Christmas three on the big market square in our city. This year you could ‘adopt’ the lights that go on the tree. Each light represents a Syrian refugee child and the money will go to programs that help them. I thought this idea was so neat. I adopted 4 lights, one for each of us.

Thanks flamingo and jewels. We already wrapped a gift for a child his age that he took to school for a child that is in the hospital. I talked with him a little then. I usually participate in whatever my hospital origination does, but I never let him help with it so I may do that and find something else we can do.

Kinda funny because although all are geographically close to me, I wouldn’t fit in in any of them.

Josie’s preschool has a tree with mittens on it. Each one has the sex and the age of a child. I took two of the tween ones (12yr olds). I think somebody on this board said that those are probably the ones that get chosen least, and that stayed in my head.

I used to unwrap all of my gifts under the tree and then re-wrap them. We didn't unwrap, but growing up, whatever presents my mom had put under the tree, we would take a knife or scissor blade, and slice the tape open at the seam, to see what was inside, then just put another piece of tape back over, and she never knew. Kind of ruined Christmas morning though...

lahdeedah With Halloween, birthdays and then Christmas all together with the gifts and stuff that come endlessly during this time, I always find B gets a little greedy, for lack of better word. TBH I find it extremely annoying and I panic that I'm raising a greedy kid, but if you're pointing out, taking action and letting him be involved not only at this time, but year round I think as they get older it will stick for sure. It's a mind fuck for me for sure.
