Also, hi! Currently snowing here. I am not delighted. DH has off today and took B to his post-surgery follow-up. C and I may have hit the road for FL by the time they get home

MH makes a Mamwhich type sloppy Joe from scratch that we never eat as a sandwich. Usually over egg noodles or over a baked potato. We all love it, esp B who eats more than a grown man. We call it "Mikewhich" (MH name is obviously Mike) mmmm that sounds perfect

snoopmommymom I could have written all Of that verbatim about Ryland. He’s such a jerk sometimes and he doesn’t listen! No advice, but solidarity. wedding I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Hi!! Dh has to go into work today even though the market is closed, but he gets a free day off to use, so that’s nice. He was stuck at work till almost seven last night though! Not much here today, 1 went to the gym and I’m going to walk Ryland to school with C and jello. We have baseball tonight so it will be a later night.

Ha! Interesting. I'm sure it will not come as a surprise that the areas most "like me" were deep south (B'ham, Montgomery & Columbus, GA). But N. FL was pretty close. "Old" n. Florida is pretty southern but we have had so many transplants come to the area that it's been diluted somewhat.

Regarding gifts: I don’t have one big gift this year for the kids. Each have presents that they are looking forward to receiving individually, and then I have a lot of presents that I will write both of their names on (play doh, magna tiles, etc).

i still felt like crap today and woke up with a really sore throat. I was almost thinking it was strep but after some meds I'm back to thinking it is just from the congestion. But in any case I am working from home/sick day. I need to run to the store today to get a new christmas book and a secret santa gift for a friend.

Warning of a rant ahead.
I started out the day already annoyed. DH emailed me again yesterday about needing money from the joint account to pay his CC bills. This is probably the 4th time in the last 6 months?? I've already added an extra $5K for taxes and will have to do that again by month-end, and it sounds like I'll be funding the 529's 100% as well by month end because he keeps emptying the joint account and doesn't want to touch his savings account (to be fair, his earned interest is dependent on maintaining a certain balance). He keeps asking where all the money from the joint account is going and YET AGAIN, I remind him that we've never funded the account for vacations, car maintenance, and all the other things he keeps taking money out for. I've pointed out that we both need to increase our deposits a few times in the last year, but he never does so I revert after a couple months because it doesn't seem fair. Except I end up paying for it regardless.
Everytime we have this conversation I feel like he's accusing me of mishandling the account, while I'm actually the one constantly shelling out thousands to bail him/us out. He insists that we live within our means but I don't think we actually do, not with how much daycare is costing us. Which is fine, but let's acknowledge it and buckle down - or at least accept that we need to pillage our savings for the next 2-3 years. Don't act like I'm mishandling our money, or look at me like I have 3 heads when I suggest that maybe we don't need to go on 3+ vacations per year.
I finally sent him a spreadsheet listing out our shared expenses and asked him to fill it in so I can prove my point and we can agree on a new deposit schedule. He's said he was going to do it but hasn't, so I'm taking over. I'm beyond over this conversation.

That's so frustrating joelies. I'm glad that you already had a clearly documented budget that he can look and see 'where the money is going'. Hopefully he's on board OR if not makes productive suggestions to resolve it.

That survey is amazing, it literally pinpointed the city I grew up in (though to be fair, it mentioned all 3 largest cities in MA).

Sorry joelies. Finances are stressful in itself, so that seems super frustrating. I may be too petty, but I would make him use his savings so maybe it would teach him a lesson hoping then wouldn’t happen again instead of constantly having to bail him out. Hope your spreadsheet helps him to see the big picture.

wedding I missed what happened, but I am glad you are on a program that works and seeing improvement. Feeling stuck in any kind of rut is the worst. And you NEED a place to talk about what's going on and get support...that place is here. snoopmommymom My kids typically act worse when MH is away too. Mostly because I'm frazzled and short on patience and they respond in kind. You are doing a great job, even while sick! Re: Christmas gifts, we do want/need/wear/read and a gift from Santa, and stockings for each kid + 1 big gift they can all use. This year it was one of those cute crate and barrel kid tents for the littles and the big one is getting a gym membership. Everyone also gets jammies (including H and I) and a Christmas book on Xmas Eve. If did not have a set number of gifts per kid and specific categories, I would never be able to keep track. I already have to keep a spreadsheet.

I have 1 thing for M2. I really need to get on it, but it’s so hard when you already have all the toys from an older sibling.
I want to get them the same amount of presents because last year M made a big deal about wanting or having more than. I know he gets it from kids at school, but I don’t want him to be that person. I need to do something like a toy donation with him to teach him to be grateful for whatever it is he has. We talked a little about being thankful the last holiday, but I need to do something more.

Morning, went to Barnes and Noble with Evie and the baby this morning. She managed to spill a cup of water, bump into 2 old ladies and get lost within the first 20 mins, in typical Evelyn fashion. I bought my 6 y/o the illustrated version of the first Harry Potter. He has been getting into it after hearing about it from kids at school, so I think he will be pumped. You may all be shocked to know that I do not Harry Potter, so this will be new to both of us.
Other than that, just recovering from another night of no sleep due to a coughing infant. Send coffee, and wine...and a night nurse.

joelies , finance conversations are never fun. Do you have access to all the transactions even if they are separate accounts? I have access to our joint account but he pays the bulk of our monthly bills via CC. Daycare, the mortgage, the cleaners, and (allegedly) property taxes are paid out of the joint account. I put 50% more into the joint than he does since he doesn't pull funds for those bills he pays. We haven't revisited the numbers in ages and we really need to, I'm not sure why that's been lost on him.

The quiz says I’m less Minnesotan than I thought it would! Des Moines/Rockford/ aurora. I was born in eastern Iowa so it must truly know me Re: Christmas presents. I also feel like I’ve gone overboard on gifts for the kids. I probably spent around $150 each but the number Of presents seems like a lot. I still have to decide what’s from santa and what’s from us. I thought Dh and I weren’t going to exchange gifts this year because we threw all our money at the basement. But then he said he is going to get me a few things so I’ve done the same. I don’t know what he’s planning, but I got him slippers, monogrammed coasters and few things for the new bar, and will probably get him a new shirt too.

Question for those of you who split the gifts between yourself and Santa. Do you put your gifts out any earlier or does everything just show up on Christmas morning?
