Why would you invite someone to your shower but not your wedding?

Why would you invite someone to your shower but not your wedding? Other way around. Invited to the wedding but not the shower.

Do you people live in a land where everyone is invited to both? Yes. Anyone invited to the shower is also invited to the wedding. Same

This thread is totally making me want a gift. I’m going to tell DH to bring me home some cheap plastic POS.

Why would you invite someone to your shower but not your wedding? Other way around. Invited to the wedding but not the shower. Maybe some people. But people don’t give registry gifts at weddings here. So registry info isn’t included on invite. Because cash.

My daughter has a friend who receives cat and dog supplies and toy donations in lieu of gifts, that then get donated to one of the many local shelters.

We've been to a few kid birthday parties and I'm a fan of the not opening gifts thing, although they've all been at the pool/bouncy place/gym, so maybe it's just what people do when not at home?
I love the idea of a donation instead of gifts, less crap around your house. I've heard of kids doing dog toy/blanket donations for animal shelters, donations for Ronald Mcdonald house or art supplies/school supplies for a local kids charity.

I voted yes, but be careful with wording, but it was in response to your first comment, I didn't read above the vote area. Sorry, had to reread the top because no way is it tacky. The only reason I say be careful with wording is because I overthink everything and rewrite everything 100 times before I send out invitations, so it's probably just one of my own issues. I think your daughter is pretty amazing for wanting to do this for her birthday...she obviously has good role models.

Your poll is very confusing (also, haven’t read the thread so sure it’s been said). So I had my answer as yes, but changed it to no. No it isn’t tacky. But do think you should watch the wording to not seem gift grabby. It wouldn’t bother me if you just flat out said it, but some people are pearl clutchy.

This episode is all I can think about. It's not about you or your insane need to throw gifts at people. Just follow the rules and celebrate this wonderful human the way she would like to be celebrated! It's a great idea and I hope she has a fantastic birthday, rvasc !

I was pleasantly surprised to find that for DS1’s 1st birthday, most of our friends (who already had kids and were on the no-clutter train) gave gift cards. So now I’m heartily team gift card for all birthday parties. No clutter. You get what you or the kid want. I get to give a gift. Exceptions are family or if I find the perfect gift. Then you’re getting it anyway. rvasc if it brings her joy, go for it

No gifts (donation instead) seems to be gaining popularity here. I love it and while DS does like picking out gifts for his friends, he’s just as happy to make them a card. He has liked the idea of donating to the charities too once we explain it.

rvasc, I think it's a great idea, and I love that it's your daughter's idea and she's driving it.

I would have no problem with it. But it is not a thing here. The nice thing is most class parties stop around 1st grade. After that it is one or two friends invited for a special day. (The boardwalk, etc). DD had 5 kids at a restaurant to make your own pizza. So because the parties are reduced in size there is less gifts/stuff anyway.

Didn't read the whole thread...
Kids make the news around here for doing things like this. I think it's awesome and I would love to shop for a donation when attending a birthday party instead of something I'm scared will become clutter.
Heck, I even considered making my shower for kid #2 a diaper drive/donation thing.
