This is our third and last baby, so we don’t need much.
Pacifiers Bottle nipples Bottle brush Maybe a couple swaddles, I need to check what I have Burp cloths Infant car seat—this isn’t a necessity since the one we have is still good, but I would like to get the one that clicks right into my stroller.

I bought a set of gently used cloth diapers and stripped them, then used them on and off as I felt like it. It was an upfront investment ($200 for 24 pocket covers, 48 bamboo inserts, 12 microfibre inserts). But man do disposable diapers add up $ wise! I liked saving money when I was feeling up to the extra laundry, but I never felt bad about switching to disposables when I was overwhelmed. I also preferred disposables for overnight with my heavy wetter. I have done the back and forth with both kids now so will probably do the same with this guy.
ETA also I worried if formula poops would be harder to wash than breast milk poops, IME no not at all. It’s just when they start solids that it gets grosser.

We had a City Select with DD, thinking that if we had another child we would get the extra seat. Well, we had to wait longer than I thought, and now DD doesn't really use the stroller (or we use an umbrella stroller, like at the zoo). We haven't pulled out the "big" stroller in at least a year if not more.
She'll be 4.5 when the twins arrive, so now I'm still wanting that extra seat, and she can walk, lol.
Besides that, many people have offered their cribs, swings, etc. Most of our friends are done having kids and looking to offload stuff, which is great for us!
One new thing I want but I can't remember its name is this soft cup you can put on the non-nursing side to catch let down milk. With DD I would spray like crazy if I didn't have a nursing pad on. Maybe it was called Milkies or something? Need to do more research.

Eames it's different than what you described but a friend of mine uses a haaka and recommended it.

Anyone who has had leaky overnight cloth, my solution has been to have her wear a prefolds plus hemp doubler in a cover amd diasana wooly pants over it. Thats all she sleeps in.

My 2 cents about cloth diapers -
We used prefolds and covers for the newborn stage and had a handful of newborn sized all in ones thrown in (nickis and blueberry) for easy overnight changes.
Once she fit into one size I liked all in ones the best. Blueberry simplex is my favorite although not the cheapest option. I got most blueberry diapers via seconds sales. Bum genius elementals and smart bottoms are runner ups. I have a strong preference for the natural fibers. They are easier (for me) to keep clean although they do take longer to dry.
I was already doing a ton of laundry so the extra load (1 every other day) wasn’t an issue. At some point we switched to a disposable overnight since she was peeing through everything we tried.
M has been to 3 different daycares (we moved and 1 wasn’t a good fit) and 2 of them didn’t bat an eye at cloth diapers and one of them didn’t want anything to do with it. There are different regulations for each state - so in some places they have to allow you to use them or may have specific rules around using them; some states can require disposables. We also went through around 6 diapers a day at daycare.

Ok, so obviously I (we FTMs) need a crib, dresser, changing table, and rocker in the nursery. I will also need a car seat and two bases. Should we get 2 car seats (one for each vehicle)? What do I need to look for in picking a good car seat? We also need bottles, but how many? What kind of nipples do you get? Do I need a bottle warmer/sterilizer? What brand of bottles is best? I’m planning on nursing. What kind of sleep clothes are the best? I’ve heard about sleep sacks. Are those better than a regular onesie and pants? How many blankets and burp cloths and everything do I need? What are essentials I can’t/shouldn’t live without? What is considered something important/essential that I don’t need? orangehibiscus I am a CPST (child passenger safety technician) and would be happy to help select a car seat!

photomama2013, don't want to bombard you, but do you think it's possible to put 3 across in the back (2 infants, one 4 y.o.) in a sedan? I say no and that we need a new car, my H thinks we just need to do "research" and get slimmer seats.

Is it a good idea to stock up on diapers ahead of time or wait and see what kind works best?

Is it a good idea to stock up on diapers ahead of time or wait and see what kind works best? I know a lot of people stock up. We only used one pack of NBs, FYI. But DD broke out in a rash with every brand of diapers except Honest, so that’s another issue that you just don’t know ahead of time. The good thing is that most store will allow you to exchange packs of unopened diapers, but I ended up just subscribing to Honest’s monthly delivery once I accepted our fate.

We did not stock up last time. Thankfully the only diapers we got (on a diaper wreath) were Pampers, which is what she used in the hospital, and those worked for us. We just switched this month to Sam's Club brand to save some cash.
With the twins, I'm accepting packs from my mom's group of diapers they've outgrown midpack. Hoping they will work, but if not, I'll donate.

I would say go ahead and stock up (I am) but don't open in case you do need to return or exchange for different sizes if you buy too much.

We didn’t hard core stock up but bought several boxes when there was a deal at target combined with completion coupon. Target has pretty regular deals so I still haven’t felt the need to stock up a ton we just buy like 3 boxes every time they have the $20 gift card deal on baby stuff.

We used Luvs, they were actually the only brand that didn't leak with E. Plus they were cheaper, so win win, lol. We used the Target brand a few times too but I didn't like them as much. Huggies and pampers both leaked for us.

I am totally stocking up. Both my kids have been pampers only babies (sensitive skin issues) so I know I’m likely to be stuck buying those instead of a store brand but I don’t mind because we like them. I will probably get 2 boxes of NB, 4 of size 1, and 6 or so of the bigger sizes. I am rich in storage space though!
I’m also stocking up on formula (been watching for the expiry dates to go a little later and now they’re there). I won’t go crazy on that unless Costco has one of their $5 off per can sales. Way too good to pass up. If the baby doesn’t end up on that kind for some reason they have an excellent return policy. I just really like the idea of easing the burden on our budget for when baby arrives so we don’t worry about MH taking paternity leave (which comes with a pay cut).

This is really good idea that I haven't even thought of. I'll be going 6 weeks unpaid, so I should do this. We used the Target brand formula with B, but I'm hoping the local grocery store has some that's decently priced since Target is on the other side of town and that was a huge pain.

I already sah and H will only take a little paid time, but I just remember how many small last minute purchases we had after E was born. Things we didn't think about, or decided we needed for convenience/ etc. We'll have enough extra expenses when he's here, if I can not worry about diapers for a while it will help.

I'm starting to do more research so I can keep an eye out for sales/deals on items that I like so....
Anyone have a swing that they loved (or hated)? We had a hand-me-down with E and it was okay, but she was never super interested in it. It was battery powered so it wasn't a great one, either. Considering buying a new one this go round (or at least watching the swap pages for a cheap used one).
AND
A baby monitor. I really want one that I can have 2 cameras, and that will pan the room if I push the button on the monitor. The kids rooms are so awkwardly shaped that the one we have now I can only see a small corner of the room, which for a NB in a crib is fine, but for E it's not ideal because she doesn't always sleep in the same spot/I can't see her when she's out of bed. If anyone has one that has these features, let me know!

pambee We didn’t have a swing, so this is a second-hand recommendation. Someone, somewhere raved about the Graco DuetSoothe Swing + Rocker. I’ve been adding things to a list as I see recommendations so I don’t have to re-research things. As for monitor, we have the Motorola one with 2 cameras. It does pan the whole room. But I honestly hate the monitor. The connection is affected by WiFi and microwaves and when our room was like 5 feet from the nursery, would randomly go out at night, waking me up with this beeping noise. Also, 3 yrs in and the battery on the parent unit is crap. I’m currently on the hunt for a new monitor.

How many diapers does an average newborn go through in a day? I was at Costco the other day, and H and I were looking at their diapers. They didn’t have newborn though. They started at size 1, which I think said started at 7lbs. Can a newborn use size 1 diapers or do they actually need newborn diapers?

I can't really remember but if they are changed every 2 hours or so, lets hope less overnight that's like...10 per day? And I know that when I had a preemie she definitely did not fit in newborn size, so I imagine it would be the same with newborn and size 1.

A lot of people skip nb diapers but we like them, a good fit = less blowouts... in theory anyways? Yogurt is spot on with a guesstimate of 10 per day, that’s a good place to start. Costco will always let you return or exchange so I’m breezy about buying stuff from there to stock up knowing my needs might change. Also the Kirkland baby wipes are THE BEST dont bother with any other kind if you’re a member!
