duskymonkey, the pictures aren't showing up! So cool though, i've seen your cake baking/crafting skills here before.

Also, M was invited to her daycare friends 1st birthday party! I think it's really nice for them to invite her, but I'm not sure on the protocol. Do we go? Not go? Both parents go? What kind of gift? Well the gift thing is probably the least of my worries. But I will definitely NOT know anybody there.
Anybody have suggestions/advice?

If you’re invited to a birthday party for a 1 year old, one of the parents definitely has to go. Both parents are more than welcome I’m sure. As for siblings, did she give you an invitation that asks for a number of people attending in your rsvp? If so, that tends to mean siblings are welcome. If there’s nothing about #s attending or nothing that specifically says that siblings are welcome, I’d just take my 1 year old by myself and let DH stay home to provide childcare for the older kid (or get a babysitter for the older kid so you and DH can both go). As for presents - I guess it depends on what is normal in your area. In the states, we do $15-20 for a bday present. Could be a chunky puzzle, books with flaps for early reading, soft push cars from melissa and doug, little people vehicle, many options!

If we go, I'll definitely go but questioning if MH should go too. No big deal if he doesn't I guess. I think that is a reasonable price for a gift as well. I think my gift giving skills are pretty good. I will probably go with one of your suggestions! I think I'm over thinking it, as i tend to do. I think we should go. It will be a good opportunity to meet other moms of the same age child.

I definitely think you should go! Sorry I assumed you had an older kid - I mixed you up with someone else! Bah. If you want to get to know the other moms and have some opportunity to converse with other parents, I’d recommend having your H go too. That way you can give the baby to him every now and then to chat with others (and vice versa - he could hang with the other dads/parents). Sounds like a fun opportunity! Is it at their home or a restaurant or some other type of venue? Just curious 😊

That is pretty good advice about us both going. It will be a struggle trying to watch M and socialize at the same time. She doesn't sit still. The party will be at a community center, which, imo, can be less awkward than going to someones house that you don't know.
OK. now that i've thought about it, i don't think i've ever met the little girls mom. not at drop off/ pickup. Is that weird? I hope i get a chance to meet her before the rsvp date.

I'm feeling pretty accomplished right now! I've got most birthday details hammered out. Food is panera or chipotle catering since theres only 4 adults and 4 kids, 2 of which are a year or under. Baby tutu dress is almost done. Bonus picture included with bonus bonus cat who thinks tulle is the tits. Test cake was a success. I got her 2 gifts, the egg thing linked above and this bathtub game called duckdunk which makes me laugh. E will love them. Last few decorations are almost done, I just need to decide on a banner and if I'm making a torn cloth streamer thingie. Oh and pick a time haha.

My DD printed them cut them out for a banner, it turned out really cute!

cythe and duskymonkey I’m think I’ll just let you two hammer out all the details of food, cake, and decorations for LO’s 2nd birthday party next year. You two are so creative, while I’m just over buying all the Target and Etsy stuff.

This sounds super fun - good place to host too, so you don’t have to worry about your kid destroying things in their home or something 😁. I don’t think it’s weird to go if you haven’t met the parents yet. They invited you, and it will be a great opportunity to meet other parents in your LO’s class. Maybe you can even make some mom friends or get a playgroup/future play dates set up. We’ve found being friends with the parents of our kids’ classmates is win-win. Fun for the adults and the kids to regularly get together- we even take short weekend trips with other school families now. It’s great. Have fun!

Errrr.... I got a little carried away I made more mushrooms - I swear I wasn't eating any and had some leftover colored marzipan so I decided to make some hedgehogs and gnomes...oops! codex320 I spend about an hour each day doing this - half of it setting up and cleaning so I am up till midnight most nights but that's like me taking a break. It's crazy I know but making things helps wind me down for the day. It helps that I am not working now but when I was I was up wayyyyy past midnight - yes! I am nuts.

I suppose buuuut.... there is no more space on the cake haha! I finished the bunting though. I got lazy and used DS' first birthday template. I also stuck the marzipan pieces in the cabinet because each time I walk past them, my mind is thinking the gnomes need a house, how about foxes and bunnies...terrible thing this mind of mine. Also I've been thinking a gnome theme cake would've been such a cute cake for first birthdays??!!

Finally completed DS' cake. I wanted to "paint" grass around the bottom of the cake but ran out of time. All the guests had a cake decorating demo lol! Hubs cake had a bunch of mushrooms - I made waaaayyy tooo many. Oops! Lil fella was at first unsure of cake but he did eat a few bites and seemed ok about it. I think it was mostly cos there were heaps of people on his home turf and wasn't quite himself - didn't even crack a smile which isn't him at all. Nonetheless, everyone had a good time and my cheese plate was demolished and so were my smoked salmon sandwich and guacamole.

duskymonkey ....and now that I ventured over to the birthdays thread I see the cake. It’s so cute that I wouldn’t want anyone to eat it.
