I talked to a friend of mine about coming down to take pictures of the big day! I'm thinking its just going to be H, myself and the kiddo for her birthday so we are thinking about keeping it small.
Anyone have great cake ideas? I'm just going to make her a smash cake since it's just us or MAAAYBE find a recipe that makes 2 8" rounds and do one smash and one fancy. I enjoy cake decorating.

We did a combined friends and both sides of the family party for DD’s first birthday and we are planning the same for DS. Hers was very hungry caterpillar themed which was super cute and I loved! His is going to be Where the wild things are and I am super excited about it. I am very Pinteresty when it comes to parties, I love it.
Keep food simple that can be prepared in advance and doesn’t need a lot of effort during the party. We did a big taco bar with various options and kept things warm in crockpots and it was a hit. DS’s is going to be in the morning I think so maybe more of a breakfast food buffet? Still a bit undecided on that

We did a cake smash cake for DD and will for DS too, I also love cake decorating! So far we have done: a big cupcake caterpillar cake, Curious George and Minnie Mouse! This year she requested a paw patrol party so we are making it bone shaped and putting little pup characters on top |

We are doing something small at our house. I did order a professional cake that’s dairy free and a companion smash cake but beyond that I don’t think I’ll do much. Probably get CFA or something and just invite a few friends and the grandparents.
Here is the cake I asked for. We don’t really have a theme just oink and pretty I guess!

I’m not sure what we are going to do yet... I am booking pictures and a cake smash session. That’s about as far as I’ve got. We have a small house so it’s awkward for having more than 10 people over at a time. She’s a late October baby so I’ve got time.

I'm in denial that this is ever happening. But really i have a smash cake pan from DS1 I can use. I need to pick a birthday party theme. His favorite thing to do is destroy our home, so can i just make the theme baby destroyer and not clean?

Seriously though, I think we’re going to keep it really simple for LO. We don’t have any family here, and LO doesn’t really have a group of baby friends that he hangs out with yet. Probably just us and the nanny - we’ll do a smash cupcake and have someone come to take pics. Maybe we can get a good family shot - that would be nice!
For DS1, we had him smash a chocolate cupcake, since the darker cake/frosting showed up better in pictures. That’s the extent of my advice!

With DD1 we had a small family. She didn’t and still doesn’t like cakes and dessert to this day so no smash cake.
DD2 loves food so I think a small cupcake smash she would love. It will probably be just with family, and probably just my side as H’s parents prefer we go to their house to celebrate our birthdays 😑
We did Eric Carle for DD1 and I’m pretty sure we have all the stuff still so DD2 might be getting Eric Carle as well.

I like early parties so they don’t consume the day. I’ll probably do brunch at our house around 10am and H wants to do scarecrows or some shit as a theme. Have at it. Also, mimosas.

This reminds me, DS2 is 10/15, and we did a Halloween themed party. It was great. I already had a solid foundation of decorations and then I upgraded my decorations in the name of the party. I like late afternoon/early dinner parties. Almost like happy hour. Start at 4, pizza delivered at 4:30, cake at 5:30/6. It works w drinks for parents too. I always do open house so people can come and go. |

We're taking pics on his actual birthday, then his party will be a week later. We rented a party room at the mini train station at one of our regional parks. We had DD's at my dad's, but he's coming back from Italy the day before, and I didn't want to thrust a party at him on top of that.
I haven't figured out food other than there will be cupcakes. The theme will be trains of course. Lol
The rental comes with 20 ride tickets for the mini train at the park, so the kids will love that.

I just ordered DS's birthday invitations and cakes last week. We are doing a race car theme because the little stinker loves driving his cars (and water bottles, baby bottles, basically anything) across the floor while making the motor sound with his mouth. We'll do both sides of our family and our closest friends. We are doing pictures too, but the photographer wasn't available until mid-October so those will be a few weeks late.
I'm fully aware that I'm going over the top for a first birthday - and I did the same thing for DD. But I just love birthdays.

I am 100% aware that I go over the top for my kids birthday parties, but that’s how I grew up too and I love it. DH and I just spent an evening building and painting Skye’s helicopter (from paw patrol) out of a cardboard box for DD’s party, and we still need to finish the details. She is going to love it |

I mean, it's literally a day where we celebrate them and their existence so rock on!
