Since we're talking 1st bdays when is everyone doing pics? The photographer I want to use is only booking during the week in November because she's doing "mini sessions" all weekends. Not sure if I should just book in October or wait until mid November. I do plan on using the photos for our Christmas card this year. Is October too far out for an 11/23 bday? I am way overthinking this lol. We are doing a family mini session about a month after ds2 turns one. I'll be using the pics for holiday cards. And to document his first birthday. And as our yearly family photos lol.

laurensc927 , liquor licenses in MA are funky. I honestly can’t think of a restaurant that’s byob. Everywhere that has their own food/drink won’t allow anything from the outside other than cake, and then places like church halls don’t allow alcohol. Ugh well that complicates things. I hope you can get it figured out!

pootsen I might steal that lumberjack theme this year lol. sarahandben108 I love the decorating cookies idea! bethkate what about a smaller restaurant that's byob? Both my baby shower and H's baptism were at restaurants that do dinner only so the price to do a buffet luncheon was reasonable. ldubhawksfan that sounds like an awesome party! blabbermouth I planned on doing a cupcake for H. So you all have me spiraling now lol. My original plan was cake with the family on Thanksgiving since H's bday is the next day. Then maybe on that friday either casual brunch with some friends or pizza later in the day. Nothing crazy, very laid back, no theme. Well I should have stayed out of this thread because I'm totally doing some sort of theme if for nothing else the photo ops lol. The woman who takes crazy propped and adorable photos ever week of her kid was going to forgo the biggest photo op yet? I don't believe it 😜

If she chooses the mid November one, we will do that. If it’s Oct, then I’ll find another photog to go with. For reference DS (baby) is Dec 6, so not too far off, and DD is 3 in November so we will be doing 1 yr, 3 yr, and hopefully a family pic all at once

B’s bday is 12/3 so I’m hoping we can do his pictures around thanksgiving and then use them for Christmas cards. Our photographers are pretty good about rushing one picture to us so we can order cards.
We have to do church directory pictures in September so I’m sure they will guilt us into something.

For HK's first birthday we did a mermaid theme at the house. Her birthday is in July so its hot and water is always involved. We are doing a Winter wONEderland theme for R - her birthday is 11/27. Think pink and gold, snowflakes, gold trees, etc. Oh and a chili bar - different chilis and assorted toppings. But ready through this post seems like all my ideas were thrown out there.
We are team booze lol.

What's the consensus on an "open house" for a first birthday. H's bday is the day after Thanksgiving and I was thinking that Saturday do breakfast items (bagels, doughnuts, quiche). Give a start time with a note at what time we'll be doing cake and that it is open house. Currently we can only use one level of our house which limits the number of people I can have, I'm trying to include more people by doing open house and also trying to give people the opportunity to stop by without feeling like we are taking up a chunk of their Thanksgiving weekend. My other options are to move it to my mil's or parents to allow for a more traditional party or just do grandparents and godparents for brunch and cake or pizza and cake.

LOVE open house style parties. We always do a brunch time/meal for birthday parties and it's worked out really well when DS1 was younger. This reminds me that I need to work on our menu with DH. I will note that open house style parties are better with adults ... kids don't really get it, so just a head's up if you are going to have toddlers/preschoolers there. Moot point if your crowd is mostly adults. My 3.5 year old fully expects to stay and play for the entire time (minus cake time obvi) people are present at a party. And convincing him otherwise is unpleasant.

Maybe decorate a Christmas ornament. Gotta see what Michael's offers lol.

I decided I’m doing a penguin theme party. No reason other than I think it’s going to be cute. I’ve already pinned all the things. Lol
I just need to get through my sons 6th bday this next week and it’s a hockey theme one. Then onto to making penguin decorations and stuff.

We decided on 10/13 for E’s party. It’s two weeks before her bday, but my H insisted we have the party earlier to hope for a bit warmer weather since we’ll be outside. We’ll see!
We’re doing the “our little pumpkin is turning one” theme, and we’ll have some small pumpkins for the little ones to paint.

DD1's 2nd birthday is 10/11 so I should probably get going on that. The weekend before her birthday is Thanksgiving and the weekend after is the annual pumpkin festival. So we'll probably do it 10/20, which then gives me a month to get DD2s birthday planned.

So I was pretty set on a penguin party for Nolan. No reason other than I think it will be adorable. He’s being a penguin for Halloween. DD actually suggested it. Then DS1 said he really wanted N to have a train party. Wasn’t my favourite idea. Until I did some looking on Pinterest. My golly. That will be just as cute. Now I don’t know what to do. And yes I need a theme. I like themes.

Hope you all don’t mind if I AW C’s bday invite. I found one for cheap on Walmart.com but wasn’t sure what to do for the 3 photos since I only got one really good one at our impromptu photo sesh at the apple orchard. So I decided to do one newborn photo, one from around 6 months, and one recent. Seeing all of the photos from all of his different ages really made me feel nostalgic.

Cute pootsen! Ugh, I'm just ignoring birthday stuff for now, even though her birthday is on the 1st 😒 there's just too much going on and I don't have any great ideas for parties re: location and guest list etc. 😣

Sometimes I wish we just did like cake with close family, but I started doing themed parties with ds1 and now I’ve created a monster lol.

Super cute pootsen ! Open house sounds great to me laurensc927. My BFF told me that she is coming with her boys no matter what so I guess we'll be doing brunch/bubbly/cake with whoever fancies coming. We're away at MIL's the weekend after baby girl's birthday so we'll do something there with H's aunts/cousins then something at ours the following weekend. I am dreading it already as knowing her MIL will no consult me on anything and either go over the top tacky with cake I don't want her to eat or do nothing...

Ok. We are doing:
10am Pumpkin Painting (I got craft pumpkins from Michael's -- as soon as people arrive so they will be mostly dry when people leave) 1030-1130am Food (ham and cheese biscuits, sweet potato hash, bacon, egg free pumpkin rolls, assorted fruit) 1145am Cupcakes & singing Happy birthday to ds2 12pm Mummy races (toilet paper mummies -- kid gets a munchkin donut when s/he crosses the finish line) 1215pm Grandma story time (Room on the Broom -- my mom used to be a preschool teacher and this has always been a great way to calm the kids down before sending them on their way). 1230pm goodbye!
Goody bags: Halloween duck, coloring book (Elmo Halloween board book for the two kids under 2.5years old), Halloween goldfish crackers (plus painted pumpkin)
Theme: general Halloween/fall
I will just need to pick up balloons for the mailbox and a thing of munchkins (we have a drive through Dunkin donuts up the road) on Saturday morning.

No clue here but both girls birthdays are coming up in a few weeks. DD2 will be getting a rainbow birthday. DD1 asked for an ocean birthday so we'll do 3 under the sea or something like that.
That's all I've got.

Invitations are out. Now just to figure out food and more activities. I’m getting a yellow brick string piñata and there is a play ground at our park so I won’t need too much.

We decided to just do a very small party. We had that huge birthday party for ds3 and ds2 just a couple months ago. And with the drama going on with my ILs, it's best we keep it simple. So like 10ppl total (including us 6)
Still doing the bear/flannel theme though!
