Is it lame to want to do the party at the same local park and hire the same taco cart guy as DD’s 1st bday?! Not lame. That's an awesome idea. +1. Tacos are never lame!

Last time, we ordered from Wegmans. But we now have a really great BBQ place nearby that is super yummy and does reasonably priced catering, so maybe I do that instead.
First things first though - I need to figure out when! October is coming too fast!

I am actually a little jealous some of you guys can combine parties. I'd love to get it done in one fell swoop. Hope my kids like it someday because otherwise it'll be back to back party weekends in our house. DNW that.

thatgolfb I love it! Not too much booze talk in my opinion, but maybe I’m a lush too lol.

belle0720. I saw the hot cocoa bar idea too. I would love to do that but there are only going to be 6 kids total and not a lot of adults who would drink it. I don’t think it would be worth the trouble. What about boozy hot chocolate for adults? Or coffee? Maybe I'm just a lush? Just put out a bottle of kahlua, bailey's, and rumchata at the end of the station. And make sure I'm invited.

I'm stealing the hot chocolate bar idea for ds1's January birthday btw. Bailey's will be available for the adults. Yum!

Thanks! We couldn’t do that for DS because he had a milk protein issue. But the girls should be good for a smash cake!

Is lumberjack theme the new craze? That’s all I’m seeing on Pinterest.
I don’t have any ideas. I don’t like the “where the wild things are or Wild one” theme. It’s not really winter yet for my kid, so winter wonderland seems silly
He doesn’t really like anything yet, doesn’t get excited about anything. Ugh. This is hard.

belle0720, I really like that cake with the trees on the side, so smart! ldubhawksfan, I think it's fine to do the same thing and you can somehow spin it as special as opposed to lazy haha. Also agree on some booze at kids parties 👍 I like the coffee or hot cocoa bar idea, but won't go with chili 😂 UO, I hate the trend of smash cakes. Waste of cake, most kids don't actually like to smash it, messy, trendy.

My sister in law did a watermelon theme for my niece's first and it was really cute and easy. Lots of green and pink decorations and a few watermelon balloons and beach balls. Obviously that doesn't work for fall/winter, but maybe something similar. I think someone said pumpkin, or a whole hot cocoa theme party? Brown and white? 😁

We used a homemade funfetti cupcake for DD1's 1st bday cake smash. It was the perfect size. JIC anyone hadn't thought of using cupcakes.

We have the big muffin pan (6ct) and I’ve thought about using it for a smash cake. I’ve also thought about just getting cake donuts. We will likely just have our parents over for a meal and cake, especially sandwiched between thanksgiving and Christmas. I might take the chili idea if we don’t do breakfast.

My cousin makes cakes, so she’ll be making ours and a smash cake. She makes a yummy pumpkin cake that I love, so I think we have to go with that.
I’m 100% on board with booze at kids’ parties. That’s part of the issue I’m having with finding a rental. Either I have to pay for a bartender (and pay the bar tab) or have no alcohol.

These are my cousin’s. I love the cupcakes, but I’m not sure I could pull off that setup.

I didn’t do a smash cake with N and I won’t with E. I’m going to do gingerbread cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes. I can make them in advance, freeze them, and then frost them the morning of the party.
I’m going to have the kids decorate gingerbread men for their favors. Have a small hot cocoa bar. Serve brunch foods like quiche, potatoes, baked French toast, and a warm fruit bake. I know I need a few more things but that’s what I have planned so far.

Cute cakes bethkate. Also really like the polar bear one, super cute @belle0270! Add me to the list in favour of booze at kids' parties! I'm seriously amazed by all of you that already thought things through! All I've got is that we'll need to order a cute cake (I can't/don't bake) and make sure to get pictures of her eating it. I don't have any friends/family with similarly aged kids (closest is 7!) so a party sounds weird? Also no family to attend unless MIL comes over, and that would not be great, so... Is it miserable to just have cake?

I am just now at almost 4 going to throw a party for DS1 so it might be awhile before DS2 gets one. I am debating on whether I try to make a cake or just order one. Maybe just some cute cookies? I don't know.

pootsen I might steal that lumberjack theme this year lol. sarahandben108 I love the decorating cookies idea! bethkate what about a smaller restaurant that's byob? Both my baby shower and H's baptism were at restaurants that do dinner only so the price to do a buffet luncheon was reasonable. ldubhawksfan that sounds like an awesome party! blabbermouth I planned on doing a cupcake for H. So you all have me spiraling now lol. My original plan was cake with the family on Thanksgiving since H's bday is the next day. Then maybe on that friday either casual brunch with some friends or pizza later in the day. Nothing crazy, very laid back, no theme. Well I should have stayed out of this thread because I'm totally doing some sort of theme if for nothing else the photo ops lol.

Since we're talking 1st bdays when is everyone doing pics? The photographer I want to use is only booking during the week in November because she's doing "mini sessions" all weekends. Not sure if I should just book in October or wait until mid November. I do plan on using the photos for our Christmas card this year. Is October too far out for an 11/23 bday? I am way overthinking this lol.

laurensc927, liquor licenses in MA are funky. I honestly can’t think of a restaurant that’s byob. Everywhere that has their own food/drink won’t allow anything from the outside other than cake, and then places like church halls don’t allow alcohol.
