mskatiep with a fully fenced yard I'd be comfortable now. The house we just sold had a huge (unfenced) yard that backed up to woods; I let B play outside solo the last few months we lived there, but he knew he had to stay in sight of the house, and I kept an eye out and checked in frequently. Running around the street? Probably 7 or so, but it would depend on the neighborhood, location/traffic, etc. We were maybe a bit younger than that, but we lived in a gated neighborhood on a dead-end street. I might be willing to relax a bit in similar circumstances.

flamingo I just found out my MIL let ds play on the side walk the other day, next a street with busses, cars, bikes, motorcycles etc. She mentioned that she 'needed to keep a real close watch, because he would follow a runaway toy car on the street'... uhm yes what did you think he would do?! He's three!

flamingo our backyard is so tiny. It's usually just Dexter's area. So we watch him since we usually go to the park a few blocks over.

I let S on the front porch or the back patio by himself. He is the most literal child in the world so as long as I explain very specifically what he can not do, I trust him. But I still check on him often.
We are not fenced in and we are on a busy street. If he was a different kid I definitely would not let him. Or if he was in a crazy mood.

We have a fenced in yard and I keep the door open. The cats and B just come and go as they please, J hangs out in her bouncer on the top deck also.
I'm going to install one of those magnet screens to keep the bugs out because I'm over collecting flies and letting them back outside before bed.

I'm the worst, I don't even let Josie on a different floor of the house from me.

I let H out on our gated deck alone, I did that last summer too. We only have fence on 3 sides plus really big window wells so I don't let her be down on the grass without a close watch. If I'm in the kitchen cooking I will let her down there because I can see her.
