That is what I was taught as well. You are rinsing raw meat germs into your sink which is not safe. If I need to, I pat the meat dry with paper towels and throw them away. I dont understand... Why would raw meat germs in a sink be a problem if you are cleaning the sink after? When I use a cutting board, there are raw meat germs, too... I look at it more as minimizing the spread of germs. Washing the entire piece of meat will put more germs in the sink than just rinsing a cutting board or knife. Which means less germs to clean, so less germs survive cleaning, minimizing the chance of contact post cleaning. In theory, if you sanitize everything perfectly you are probably fine. But people are dumb and can’t be trusted to do things properly. And I don’t care how much you sanitize, you never kill everything. I’ve worked with microbes and those things are horrible.

Again we have people here who are hand rubbers with they bathe and stand up to wipe their ass so nothing surprises me. I mean I didn't need a poll, I already knew the answer here. I don't think this is the same. The health/hygiene benefits of washing meat are in question. There is no controversy about the hygienic need to wash your ass. I didn't say they were the same. I said some people don't wash their ass with regularity so as a result I would not feel they extended this grace to meat.
It's never been a controversy but yet we have those that don't so you know.

I thought it might be more of an even split, even with our demographics.

but what you are thinking you are washing off that is inside a butcher shop? I get if there is raw meat laying in dirt washing it... The butcher shop was fresh meat. What are you not understanding? It hasn't been processed. They just skinned the animal and broke it down right there. So when the carcass is hanging as it is being broken down there could be flies or I don't know what around. It's not a big deal to rinse your meat.
I mean you literally would pick your chicken running around one minute and then in your bag a few minutes later.

I will put ground hamburger right from package to pan to make tacos.... that's all I do with beef really. My husband does more of the cooking. I'll make some sheet pan suppers from pioneer woman (chicken/ salmon) and you apply the seasoning/olive oil on the pan. Am I doing it all wrong?!

how do you plop meat right from the package into the pan? You need to get up all in there with the seasonings and marinades and really rub in the flavor. Massage it. I do enjoy a good meat massage Hillary

The more germs thing is crazy. It's still contaminated whether it's a knife you used to cut meat or a whole bird was sitting in the sink. You disinfect them both the same.

Splashing water is what is mentioned in articles discussing why it can be unsafe to rinse meat. If you don't have splashing then it wouldn't pertain to you. www.nhs.uk/Livewell/homehygiene/Pages/Washing-chicken-can-cause-campylobacter-food-poisoning.aspxMy new sink has a really high water pressure and splashes everywhere if you aren't careful. It has splashed on my clothes and window sill. It seems like using a bowl to rinse chicken would eliminate that issue though and if I wanted to rinse chicken that's how I would do it.

I should change my answer to I don't do much cooking. DH grills a lot and makes dinner a lot. I plop beef into the pan for tacos and you add in the seasoning later. That's all I do with beef. If we made hamburger patties or something, DH would do it and grill it.

I mean, I am not shocked. You have people here who can't find the time to wash their ass daily or to make sure the other asses are washed daily. If you can't wash your ass, I know you ain't worried about no meat. this is like... I don't know. I mean you bring up this ass washing situation daily. You don't need to wash meat, now, ever, daily or otherwise. There are many people that will confirm this, across all facets of the foodservice industry. If you want to wash your meat, then fucking do it. It's not doing shit for you. It's not fucking analagous to washing your ass. Do you see me telling people what they need to do? No.
I have not told anyone they need to do anything or change anything about what they do with their meat.
I have only spoken to what I do in my kitchen and people with the splashing water.
Yes, I bring up ass washing any time I can. It's important. I never said people who don't wash their meat, don't wash their ass.

Or marinade, which involves plopping it into a baking dish and then adding marinade. Sometimes I fork the meat to get it in more (I am laughing at typing this all out) On a rare occasion I WILL touch the meat, but I really try not to.

I do all the cooking (H sucks at it) and I basically do this. I rip off the top of the package, season the meat on the topside. Pick up the package and flip it over so that side lands in the hot skillet. Then season the new topside while it's in the pan. No massaging necessary lol.

It's like feeling a boob through a shirt or bra.

McBenny the statement "you can't bother to wash your ass so I'm not surprised you don't care about your meat" is not just a throwaway statement. It's clearly drawing a comparison between the need to wash your ass (aka basic fucking hygiene) and the need to wash your meat (aka... not a necessary thing at all unless you are fucking growing the meat on your own farm) Yes the statement is directed towards those that already have said they are too busy to wash their ass with regularity. Established non body washers.
Not meat before ass.
I never said anyone needed to wash their meat. Not once. I never spoke to what anyone needed to do in their kitchen.

I’m just washed my ass (with a washcloth), but I am about to go drop some chicken in a marinade and I have no plans to wash it.

There is this wonderful invention called tongs. You pick up the meat with the tongs, put it in pan, put the tongs in the dishwasher, and get a new pair. Viola, you don't have to touch the meat and you can season.

It is a game changer. I can now prep and season my meat with out the squishy feel.

(Genuine question bc I clearly am not an adult about this)
