IME itβs a cultural thing. I donβt know any black people that donβt rinse their meat before cooking. That rubbed off on my mom/sister and I was raised to do so as well. I remember how grossed out I was finding out that people donβt rinse, but I watched a show on it and it makes sense so Iβm meh on it either way.

MH is a food scientist, and he says not to wash. I mean, I wasnβt washing before, but he validated my thoughts on the subject.

I think the contaminating sink thing is that water splashes may be getting places that you aren't disinfecting. Like you'll definitely put your cutting board in the dishwasher/disinfect it, and obviously you'll wash your hands before and after working with meat but if you wash your meat maybe a splash goes on the backsplash or some cabinet and you don't disinfect that when you wash the sink.
Just a guess though. This sounds partially cultural. I know literally no one who washes meat.

That is what I was taught as well. You are rinsing raw meat germs into your sink which is not safe. If I need to, I pat the meat dry with paper towels and throw them away. I dont understand... Why would raw meat germs in a sink be a problem if you are cleaning the sink after? When I use a cutting board, there are raw meat germs, too... The water can splash beyond the sink.

No, never. I also read years ago that itβs pointless and can actually spread germs around your kitchen from raw chicken water splashes Public health agencies in the UK and US both discourage washing poultry for this reason. It also doesnβt actually get rid of the germs - only cooking to the appropriate temperature can reliably do that.

For those who wonβt eat meat that hasnβt been washed do you ask the preparer if theyβve washed it? Otherwise how would you know?

Also lots of people put the water and vinegar in a bowl and wash the meat in there, so itβs not under the faucet splashing germs everywhere.

I need to know whatβs being washed off the meat.
I do rinse a whole chicken or turkey, but thatβs ahead of doing a brine.

Well first of all, the oven goes on 350 I'm super impatient I cook everything on higher heat for less time. And it crisps the skin better.

I wash all meats unless minced with vinegar and lime or lemon juice. I bleach my sink after I do not eat from people who donβt wash the meat before cooking. t π€’ Same with the bleaching the sink after. Havenβt gotten sick yet.

I wash my meat. Itβs not even the washing off germs part, itβs more about washing off tiny bits of bones from the meat saw (think bone-in chops) and to get that slimy liquid off, that pools in the package. Iβve read, that itβs not recommended, but I still do it and I also disinfect the sink afterwards.

Nope due to cross contamination. It takes like super tiny amounts of salmonella (as an example) to make someone really sick. And rinsing allows for all sorts of splashing to occur, so even if you think you disinfected after, you didnβt. Thatβs shit goes everywhere.

I rinse the cavities and pat dry whole chickens or turkey only. There is sometimes slimy stuff in/on them...it is not an attempt to remove germs. I will pat dry steaks or cubed meat prior to searing or sautΓ©ing but don't rinse first. Yes, I should have specified, I only rinse chicken when there is the slimy stuff. Not because in trying to get rid of germs. When I do rinse, I do not splash water around the kitchen all willy nilly. Are you guys living in an infomercial where you can't control your hands? ETA well the gif isn't working but just imagine someone flailing about whilst trying to do something in the kitchen
