We donβt eat enough meat for this to be an issue. But no, Iβve never rinsed meat of any kind.

Well it makes more sense if you aren't washing to wash off germs.

No. Youβre not supposed to. And no restaurant you go to is doing it either.

No rinsing here. I will blot off excess blood sometimes.

I do not wash, but I don't prepare or cook red meat outside hamburgers. I rinse a whole bird, though.
And I bleach my sink. Maybe it's a cultural thing?

No. I pat dry, season, then sear. Boom.

No. I pat it dry with paper towels. And season it.
And wash my hands 500 times in the process.

And yes to bleaching your sink. And yes to a weekly sink scrub using white vinegar and baby soda. Make a paste and scrub that shit in. Let it sit and rinse away. My bed may never be made, but my sinks are pristine.

Like it makes it more tender? That raw meat smell. Open meat Wash with vinegar Seasoning (powder and non powdered) Let it soak Then cook. Why do you need to cut the smell if you are going to cook it? I never leave mine sitting out or it gets marinated in the fridge so no smell π€·π»ββοΈ

side note, it's actually really good to wash lettuces, etc in vinegar water because it kills any bugs and releases them

I don't rinse. I do have a giant box of latex gloves that I use when handling any raw meat, especially making burgers.

I don't want to be permanently kicked off the black/Caribbean island but sometimes, some of the cultural practices we have just may not be best practices anymore for our circumstances. Perhaps this meat washing thing is one of them? The vinegar wash is new to me. I don't cook though so...does it leave an aftertaste? I'm not going to comment on the meat thing because I don't eat meat and rarely cook it at home. But my parents leave so much food out unrefrigerated and it is definitely cultural and I am most definitely not doing that. Yet they don't appear to get sick and are still alive so maybe it helps build their immune system, I don't know.

I wash my meat.
That being said, no there is no splashing about and water flying everywhere. There is no more contamination then whatever surface, knife, and hands you normally use to cut and or clean your meat.
This could be cultural. I know that when we lived in NYC and we bought meat that was not packaged and was fresh you washed the meat. So this may be where the practice started. That being said, I still wash because even in packaged meats I rinse off excess fluids or juices.
Yes, I know cooking will kill any germs etc.

Yes, this is what I was taught. Chicken gets washed with vinegar too. Maybe #cultural Vinegar, lemon juice, or a salt water rinse.

Cleaning chicken also involves trimming fat

That is what I was taught as well. You are rinsing raw meat germs into your sink which is not safe. If I need to, I pat the meat dry with paper towels and throw them away. I dont understand... Why would raw meat germs in a sink be a problem if you are cleaning the sink after? When I use a cutting board, there are raw meat germs, too... Thank you for saying this as the scientist in the room.

I think the contaminating sink thing is that water splashes may be getting places that you aren't disinfecting. Like you'll definitely put your cutting board in the dishwasher/disinfect it, and obviously you'll wash your hands before and after working with meat but if you wash your meat maybe a splash goes on the backsplash or some cabinet and you don't disinfect that when you wash the sink. Just a guess though. This sounds partially cultural. I know literally no one who washes meat. I am washing meat. I am not having a water balloon fight with meat water.
I don't know what goes on in your kitchen but my backsplash and cabinets don't get water splashed on them from regular McBenny kitchen activity.

the washing chicken thing (with water) doesn't do anything except make it harder to get a good crisp on the outside. Again, actually trimming fat/tendons out is different. When we say "clean your chicken" we mean both the vinegar rinse and trimming. They go hand in hand. Especially chicken thighs, blech

I mean, I am not shocked. You have people here who can't find the time to wash their ass daily or to make sure the other asses are washed daily.
If you can't wash your ass, I know you ain't worried about no meat.

I have never had an issue getting a good crisp from my chicken so I sure as hell don't know what y'all are doing to your chicken.

Again we have people here who are hand rubbers with they bathe and stand up to wipe their ass so nothing surprises me.
I mean I didn't need a poll, I already knew the answer here.

My kitchen counters and sink get a full wipe down disinfection BEFORE and AFTER any and all meal prep whether it includes meat or not so that's a non issue.

Only a whole chicken. I don't know why. I also take soap and a rag and scrub my sink 1-2 times per day. Also, when you cut meat or put raw meat on a plate and then put it in the sink, aren't you also contaminating the sink? I bleach my sink if Iβve had a dish that had raw meat on it. It grosses me out so much.

a diluted vinegar wash on all produce is a great idea. Doesn't it help keep fruit fresh longer too?

Nope due to cross contamination. It takes like super tiny amounts of salmonella (as an example) to make someone really sick. And rinsing allows for all sorts of splashing to occur, so even if you think you disinfected after, you didnβt. Thatβs shit goes everywhere. I am so annoyed with the rinsing causing splashing narrative. Are you crazy? Rinsing results in water traveling over said object into the sink and then drain. Splashing water results in water being splashed.
