There is this wonderful invention called tongs. You pick up the meat with the tongs, put it in pan, put the tongs in the dishwasher, and get a new pair. Viola, you don't have to touch the meat and you can season. I've heard of this! How is this different from using a fork, which is my current method, or just seasoning in the pan? (Genuine question bc I clearly am not an adult about this) More control, less chance of it slipping off the fork and splashing into the pan if you have hot oil in there. I'm a meat toucher though.

I would like to encourage people to season their meat. This means more than salt and pepper.

I hope the plopping of the meat only applies to hamburger because I cannot imagine not trimming meat, or at least checking to see if it needs trimming. And yes to seasoning.

(jk I use garlic powder, fresh garlic, rosemary, thyme, etc. depending what it is)

how do you plop meat right from the package into the pan? You need to get up all in there with the seasonings and marinades and really rub in the flavor. Massage it. I just... put seasonings on top. Or marinade, which involves plopping it into a baking dish and then adding marinade. Sometimes I fork the meat to get it in more (I am laughing at typing this all out) On a rare occasion I WILL touch the meat, but I really try not to.

Nope due to cross contamination. It takes like super tiny amounts of salmonella (as an example) to make someone really sick. And rinsing allows for all sorts of splashing to occur, so even if you think you disinfected after, you didnβt. Thatβs shit goes everywhere. I am so annoyed with the rinsing causing splashing narrative. Are you crazy? Rinsing results in water traveling over said object into the sink and then drain. Splashing water results in water being splashed. This is where I am.

but what you are thinking you are washing off that is inside a butcher shop? I get if there is raw meat laying in dirt washing it... Some times the meat could be out in open air, laying on ice, there could be flies, bone dust, etc. I mean... I would not buy from a butcher/meat supplier where this is happening.

I only wash out whole birds, usually to help get the leftover ice crystals out and remove the package of innards then check for leftover feathers.
I don't wash any other meat unless there is noticeable blood clots maybe. It doesn't make the meat any cleaner. That's just an old wives tale.
Rinse/soak in vinegar helps to cut down on the gamey taste if deer elk game meats so that could be a reason some people got in that habit.

Don't you know that the CDC is just a corrupt government agency that secretly wants to control and/or kill us? (If it is not clear, I am definitely kidding)

I don't know if H washes the meat before he cooks it. I don't care either way because I've never gotten sick from his cooking and I don't have to do the cooking so it's a win-win for me.

I had no idea your husband did the cooking. You know Iβve not been around and some of the newbies may not know how awesome I have it. Also, fuck off. Love you.

Yes, this is what I was taught. Chicken gets washed with vinegar too. Maybe #cultural Washing meat is a must. The first time my grandmother ever flicked me was when I was little and started helping her cook and I started seasoning the meat without washing it first. Chicken and vinegar rinses are a must. π

I am so happy if you don't have to cook. Despite there being two adults in the home that you put all cooking responsibilities onto the one and don't feel you should ever come up with something yourself and help, I don't know, ease the load.

Despite there being two adults in the home that you put all cooking responsibilities onto the one and don't feel you should ever come up with something yourself and help, I don't know, ease the load. Well, this is quite presumptuous. People divide household and life responsibilities in all kinds of ways. Sure people divide shit all kinds of way and I am admittingly projecting in here. Meals are a MAJOR life responsibility and not akin to anything else I can think of. I think it being all on one person is wrong or incorrect or not fair.
It's a lot to plan meals for a family and execute them all the time every day. My stance about that will not change so I don't care if you do yard work in lieu or all the laundry to me it's not the same as meals which is a major need and not a want in the sustenance of your family.

My dad is from Trinidad, so I see the cultural aspect. My mom, from The States, also washes but I donβt know if that is bc of my dad or not. Here is the process in case anyone was wondering: clean sink, trim meat, fill huge SS bowl with meat, water, salt/lemon while the bowl is still in the sink. Not running the water over the meat and washing each piece so there is no splashing. He then drains the water and begins to season. The whole process takes place in the sink. Everything is disinfected once the meat is in the pot.
I will say most dishes are stews/curry/pellow so the crispness is not a huge factor.
