I HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS TO READ! I took Monday and Tuesday off this week to spend one day deep cleaning/getting rid of excess toys and one day reading. Guess what happened at 4 am Monday? My youngest woke up with a fever and spent both days with me. I got about 1/3 of the cleaning I wanted done and zero reading.

I'm going to pretend I didn't see this because I took a vacation day tomorrow to bring DD to a dr. appt then plan to spend the rest of the day washing floors and reading. Somehow the germs always know just how to ruin our plans.

Oh yes, the 14 year old daughter doesn't worry me, the 4 year old son that likes to sneeze in my face when sick on the other hand is the one I'm worried about.

Add me to the list of those with a sick kid that ruined plans for days spent cleaning and reading and prepping for parties. My 8 year old came down with strep last week.

I haven't updated in a couple weeks but I have finished 3 books recently.
Murder in an Irish Chipper - 4 stars. I am sad I have caught up on the series, I hope the author continues to make more because I enjoy all the characters. 4 The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson - 5 stars. It was engaging, riveting, heartbreaking, educational, and rage inducing. Absolutely a must read on the "Great Migration" of Black Americans from the South to the North. The Lost Letters of Aisling by Cynthia Ellingsen - 4 stars. This was my pick for the March Amazon first reads. If you like the Cuba Chanel Cleeton series, you would like this book. Historical and present day alternating perspectives and a really lovely but pulling on your heartstrings story. I could see what was coming but it still kept me interested, and I even teared up quite a bit in the last part of the book. Which, I rarely cry at books, so that is saying something, ha.

I finished The Burnout and although I really related to the MFC the book fell kind of flat for me. I started Bride by Ali Hazelwood this morning

The ARC of Behind Every Good Man by Sara Goodman Confino was so good. I just love her books.
I am about 22% through the Covenant of Water. Iβm liking it, just hoping I can get through that many more hours of audio in 9 days before itβs due lol. 22% and still 25 hours to go. π₯΄ I do listen at 1.5x or so, but still.

I finished The Burnout and although I really related to the MFC the book fell kind of flat for me. I felt the same. I went in optimistic and finished thinking maybe I won't read more of her books, because the last few I've read have left me feeling the same way.

I was doing a lot of housework yesterday and finished the audiobook of The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins in one day. I enjoyed it! I thought I had read other books by her, but apparently I was mixing her up with someone else, so I added the others to my TBR.

I finished The Unquiet Bones by Loreth Anne White. It was ok. I liked the premise and I was surprised by a couple of things but it did drag a bit. 3.5 stars
I also finished Web of Fear by Mike Omer and it was really good. 4 stars. I have now read all of his books and have given them all 4 or 5 stars. Iβm bummed I am out of books to read by him. Note that there is a Michael Omer out there as well who is not the same author. I havenβt read any of his yet but the book covers turn me off a bit.
Iβm listening to The Black Queen right now and itβs great so far. YA thriller, which is a genre I love if it doesnβt get all muddled with too much teenage angst.

I donβt think Iβve checked in at all this month but Iβve finished a few books.
I read and really liked The Maisβs Diary and Nightwatching (especially the latter).
I read and did not like Only if Youβre Lucky and Mr. Wrong Number. They were both 2 star reads for me.
I also finished 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I liked it but itβs views on school shootings felt outdated.
I just starting Listen For the Lie now. I have high hopes for this one.

I got a big chunk of Bye Baby done last night and Iβm still only half way through and donβt know if I care. The reviews are good on goodreads so I feel Iβm missing something

I finished Murder Road and gave it 5 stars. I always enjoy Simone St James' books.
I also listened to the new Finlay Donovan book and gave it 3 stars. Some of the characters just really got on my nerves in this one and I didn't like the narrator.
Now reading Kilt Trip which is just your typical rom com so far. I'm also going to start The Catch by Amy Lea.

I just finished The Young of Other Animals. I think it was a first read from a month or two ago. 3 stars. I struggled getting into it at first because the two main characters were so immensely unlikeable. I stuck through it and it got better though. The twist ending was super obvious but I think it was supposed to be. It was pretty dark and sad, but not horrible.

I finished The Shadow Box by Luanne Rice last night. I gave it 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 on GR. It had a vibe similar to Big Little Lies if youβre into that. I quite enjoyed it, but the ending felt rushed which kinda bummed me out. I liked the fact that the book kept the reader knowing what was going on with the main plot while keeping some other stuff hidden.

I finished Bride and liked it a lot, very much what Iβd expect from Ali Hazelwood except fantasy instead of STEM based.

I'm struggling with Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone, but I'm not giving up yet. Could just be too many distractions over the weekend. Or it could be that I'm reading the physical copy and I'm coming to realize that as much as I love physical books, I really do have an easier time reading when I use my Kindle paperwhite. I actually returned a book to the library unread last week because even with reading glasses I couldn't see the font without holding it right in front of my face. I guess I should look into one of those things that you set over the page. I don't want to admit this is a sign of aging.

This weekend I finished One of Our Own by Lucinda Berry. I see I gave it 4 stars in GR but I think I would go with 3.5. It was good, but not great. Dark and very triggering, as her books often are. I also read The New Couple in 5B and loved it. I always enjoy books where the setting is a character. This really could have gone off the rails but I felt it stayed pretty solid. I gave it 5 stars.

I just found out you can listen to audio books on spotify?? That's a game changer for the gym.
I've never done the audio book thing but I want to give this a shot. The only problem is it's 15 hours free a month with premium which I'm assuming isn't a ton. How does that work? Does each book have a set number of hours it takes to finish or does it go by how fast you listen to it?

She has been listening to some I guess a school since I drop her off early. She hasnβt been picking up a book at home anymore which is sad considering we just bought a ton at Christmas but if she is listening to some Iβm happy again

icedcoffee I believe if you listen to it more quickly it doesn't track that, it is based off the normal setting. So if you speed up a 16 hour book, it will still stop at 15 hours. You can always download Hoopla and/or Libby to access the collection your library has too. Hoopla holds are set by library, but there are no waits. Libby is based off of what your library purchases, so differs by library, and some books have waitlists depending on how many copies and holds your specific library has. Generally there is a lot available without a wait though, just not newer titles.

I didn't expect the different characters to have different voices (I assume it's the way the book is set up, different chapters are the different characters) so that's fun. It said the book was 11 hours so I guess that'll take the free one I get for the month but that's OK. Especially if I only let myself listen while working out haha. I'll look into the other ones too!

Adding on since this is my first audiobook, I am enjoying it more than I expected. I have been getting a little distracted way easier though, and if I zone out or want to double check something I'll flip back through the pages. Which is obviously not that easy with audio. But all in all so far so good!
