I finished Blindsighted, and it was very good. 5 stars. I requested the subsequent one from the library. Dark Matter is also very good, and I’m flying through it. I can’t wait to see what the series is like when it comes out. I am getting a Severance type vibe, with more action. Dark Matter is not my type of book but because so many people here loved it, and then my H read it and loved it, I had to try. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I’m hopeful on screen it’s even better.

Add me to the list that loved Dark Matter, it’s one of those books that stuck with me and I find myself thinking about the concept fairly regularly.

In February I read 6 books and enjoyed all of them. Hyperion, The Will of the Many, and Tell Me Everything really stood out for me though although they were three very different books. This month I'm looking forward to three new releases! I also just saw the new Dune movie and loved it which gave me the push to finally start on the 4th Dune novel. We have two weeks of school holidays in March so I think I'll be able to get a lot of reading in which I'm really excited about.

I read so much this weekend since we all had colds and stayed home for a lot of it
I read the second of the good girls guide to murder. It was decent for being YA.
I’m started Little Mercies yesterday and only have about 40 pages left. It’s a quick read that is similar to Jodi Picoult to me. I’ve read a couple of her books before and forgot about her but this one is good. Hard topic though. TW: child abuse and sickness

I'm trying to listen to Bridge and read the first in Crescent City and there are a lot of overlapping themes and I keep getting confused. I think I'm going to have to put one on hold, but can't decide which!

I finished When We Lost Our Heads by Heather O'Neill and my gosh did I ever love it! I think it's my favourite book so far this year, and I wish I could read it for the first time again. I will be mulling it over in my head for a long time and both the main characters, Marie and Sadie will stay with me. They were both unlikeable, horrible people, but magnetic characters to read about. It takes place in 1870's Montreal and has themes of feminism, equality, class, sexuality, freedom and womans place in history. I could talk endlessly about it, but I won't - I do highly recommend it though.
Goodreads synopsis:
"Marie Antoine is the charismatic, spoiled daughter of a sugar baron. At 12 years old, with her blond curls and her unparalleled sense of whimsey, she's the leader of all the children in the Golden Mile, an affluent strip of 19th century Montreal. Until one day in 1873, when Sadie Arnett, dark-haired, sly, and brilliant, moves to the neighborhood.
Marie and Sadie are immediately united by their passion and intensity, and they attract and repel each other in ways that light each of them on fire. Marie with her bubbly charm sees the light and sweetness of the world, whereas Sadie's obsession with darkness is all consuming. Soon their childlike games take on a thrill of danger and then become deadly.
Forced to separate, they spend their teenage years engaged in acts of alternating innocence and depravity--until a singular event unites them once more, with dizzying effects. And after Marie inherits her father's sugar empire and Sadie disappears into the city's gritty underworld, a revolution of the working class begins to foment. Each of them will have unexpected roles to play in events that upend their city--the only question is whether they will find each other once more.
Traveling from a repressive finishing school to a vibrant brothel, taking readers firsthand into the brutality of factory life and the opulent lives of Montreal's wealthy, When We Lost Our Heads dazzlingly explores gender and power, sex and desire, class and status, and the terrifying power of the human heart when it can't let someone go."

cdnfroggy, have you read any Maggie O'Farrell? Your description reminded at first of A Marriage Portrait, inspired by the 16 year old Lucrezia Medici.

I finished Bride today. Aside from the cringey sex scenes it was very cute. I enjoyed it a lot.

For March I am looking forward to The Phoenix Crown (didn’t get to in February), Listen for the Lie, and Murder Road. I also have a few ARC that are coming out in April that I’m hoping to get to.

Finally finished The Paris Daughter. Meh. It was not my favorite. I feel bad rating a very realistic book about war so low but I can only give it 3 stars. Too much was happening, the twist was very obvious, and it just didn’t work for me.
Trying The True Love Experiment for the 3rd time now. Hopefully it grabs me better this time.

My February was a lull. Didn't do much reading at all.
I did finish the audiobook of The Teacher the other day. Not sure how I feel about the twist, but overall it was fine. I'm reading Mask of Mirrors now, which I'm enjoying but it's been a little hard to get into. It's very "drop you in immediately" where there are constant new names of people, locations, etc - not a whole lot of exposition - and you just kinda have to go with it and hope it all makes sense (I felt the same way about Priory of the Orange Tree and wound up really liking it).
Will of the Many is next, since I have it from the library and there's no renewal option because of the waitlist. I'll be picking up CC2 (Sky and Breath) today because my hold expires tomorrow, so that will be third on the list. I am desperate to read that one so hoping it will give me the encouragement I need to get going on these others lol.

From the NYT- I love this! "The Worcester Public Library in Massachusetts announced that people who have lost or damaged a book can bring a photo, drawing, or magazine clipping of a cat, and get their library cards reactivated. The library calls the program March Meowness, a way to forgive members who misplaced a book or damaged a borrowed item. The program has generated hundreds of returns, multiple postings of random cat photos on the library’s Facebook page, and photos and drawings pinned on a growing “cat wall” in the building."

I just finished As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow and.....my gosh. I could not put it down but was limiting myself to 50 pages a day because it is so heartbreaking. I wish I could make that book mandatory reading for everyone.

We've been unconnected due to a blizzard, so here's my February Recap. I stuck with my YA horror/thriller/magical realism theme. I did pretty well with my attempt to read non-white authors.
Firebird, YA Graphic Novel 3.5* The American Roommate Experiment, 4* Everyone's Thinking it, 3.5* The Counselors, 4* You're not supposed to Die tonight, 4* We Don't Swim here, 5* Serena Singh Flips the Script, 3* Someone is always watching DNF - the full cast narration is awful (I'll read it another time) The Salt Grows Heavy, 3* The Dead Take the A Train, 3.5* Billy Porter, Unprotected, 4.5* (what a life, what a character!) The Black Queen, 5* Love, Hate and other filters, 4.5* Wander in the Dark, 5* (Jumita Emill is quickly becoming a favorite author) We Deserve Monuments, 5* (Favorite of the month) Monstrous, 4* How to Succeed in Witchcraft, 4.5* Those we Drown, 3* Plantains and our Becoming, 5* (powerful poetry, listen if you can)

This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan is out today! I pre-ordered the audiobook and I've already started it. I don't want to work lol I want to read. It's the follow up to Before I Let Go, telling Soledad's story.

I wish I could make that book mandatory reading for everyone. I remember hearing great things about this one and saving it for BOTM, in case it ended up a BOTY final 5 pick this year. It never did, so I’ll have to add it back on to my list, especially after reading your post!

I finished The Appeal- it kind of fizzled at the end for me but I liked the format a lot so I think I'd still recommend it.
Just started The Other Mothers- I think this one will be a quick read for me.

I loved Before I Let Go. Actually, I've loved everything I've read of hers.

I've finished 3 books so far this month. The Resort by Sara Ochs. This was pretty meh. 3 stars.
You've Been Volunteered by Laurie Gelman. Second book in the Class Mom books. I read the first one a long time ago. This was funny at times but not much happened. It was funny though because my 5th grader is currently doing crossing guard but thankfully a teacher runs it and parents don't have to be involved, lol. 3 stars.
You'll Never Know I'm Here by Kiersten Modglin. This was a quick fun thriller for book lovers. I definitely wasn't expecting the ending. 4 stars.
I just hit the libby jackpot and was able to get 3 of the new releases today on audio. I got This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan, Murder Road by Simone St James, and Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice by Elle Cosimano.
I also just started Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister and I have A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams to start too.
