I am aghast every time I look up how much a stamp costs.

It baffles me that in the year 2024 I still receive wedding invitations addressed to me by my husband's last name by my peers. I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed. This happens to me but from H's family only - and honestly his family is so big I don't remember all of his cousins' spouses names etc. so everything gets addressed to the X Family. So it never bothers me when it's from that part of the family. Here's a confession: my best friend got married like 7 or 8 years ago and we love her husband and I have NO idea what his last name is. To this day. This just reminded me that I recently found out at a family gathering that the distant cousin on dh's side whose wedding is coming up soon addressed the save the date to dh's brother and his EX GIRLFRIEND instead of his wife. Like, really? I know he's out of town from the rest of us who are all local to each other, but BIL has been married to the same woman for the past at least 7 years (their oldest dd is 6 and I know they didn't have her before they were married). But the ex gf is who BIL brought to dh and my wedding, which was 14 years ago, and that may have been the last time we saw cousin in person?

We lived in many teeny NY apartments. Then we moved to the burbs into a 1500 sq ft house and it was more space than I could ever imagine. Then we had two kids and we promptly moved into a house that was much, much larger. And that was just mind blowing to me. Now we’ve been here for six years and added another kid, and we’re adding another 1000+ sq feet to the house. It’s nothing ridiculous, we’re adding storage and making the rooms bigger where we spend most of our time. If we still lived in NYC with our kids, we would live differently but we could make it work. But once you’re in a house, it’s easy to use the space. I can see why someone living in an apartment might see it as excessive, but we don’t have a gift-wrapping room or meditation room. We use every inch of our home intentionally. You DON’T have a dedicated gift wrapping room?! Peasant.

I try to keep my tabs open to 20. More than that and I force myself to curate and actually complete the tings that I left the tab open for.

Most of my open tabs are recipes. I feel comfortable with that for me.

Do you people not shut your computers off at any point? I don't get the tab thing. It’s on my phone. No tabs left open on my laptop. My love, this is not better.

I'm currently looking for a bigger house but that's mainly just because we aren't allowed to do an extension and a house from 1886 can be limiting in its layout.
We have enough space but I'll happily admit I still want more. Partially to give the boys more room so that they perhaps choose to live here past high school a bit but also to give my mom the option to live with us a few months a year once she retires. So definitely not a necessity but I'll be pretty happy if we eventually find something that checks all the main boxes.
I think it all comes down to being able to use most of the space you have efficiently and in a way that makes sense for your family. I remember a friend of mine growing up had a huge entry with a large room that housed a piano. No one played piano and the whole space was never used and even as a kid I thought that was dumb. On the other hand another friend had a room which only contained a very large loom but her mom used it all the time and I thought that was super cool, and still do.

I'm sure I COULD live in a smaller home.
I do not WANT to live in a smaller home at this time in our lives.

I have learned recently that no matter what I will need a guest bedroom for when my husband won’t stop snoring at night. 'I feel this. At this point in life, we're not a sleep separately couple, but some nights when I wake up and cannot get back to sleep because he's next to me yell-snoring, I wish I had another bed to go to rather than a couch. My back and neck are not happy with me.

After living in the Brady bunch home that we’ll need for a decade, my SO and I are already talking about how we’ll downsize for just the two of us. Assuming we still like each other after a decade of raising 1000 teenagers.

I try my best to know people's last names post-marriage, but I don't always know that someone didn't change it. Especially in this world of social media and emails and all the places where you do and don't change your name and it may not match what you've done legally. I don't expect people to know whether I changed my name or not but I'm surprised when people just assume everyone did and don't bother to check. I imagine they asked (my husband) for our home address at some point and it would have been easy to ask for my last name then. Oh I thought they knew you didn’t change. This changes my answer But I also used to get things addressed to us as mr and Ms last name before we were even married

I spilled birria on my shirt last week, staining it. I put on stain stick and threw it in the wash when I got home.
...Which I promptly forgot about until I put the same shirt today without looking and now I'm at work with a large orange stain on the front of my shirt.

Our house isn't that big and I know we'll never leave, but I do fantasize about getting a car without 3rd row seating someday. And then I realize that the teenagers will be leaving home in just a few more years and I start to get emotional. I basically am going to need an emotional support car come 2027.

I don't use Pinterest to look up things or search for things, however I use it to save so many websites to alleviate the tab situation! Oh this hotel looks cool, this recipe looks good, this is a neat gift- they all move to a pinterest pin and off my tabs. sterling geez I've been in & out of here the past year and I remember your divorce but didn't know you had found a great new SO. That's amazing, I'm happy for you, hope you find the right house!

Unless of course I have a failure to launch situation with DS. Which is entirely possible.

Part of the housing problem in CA (and I’m sure other places) is that people stay in the same home once they are done raising their family and younger families don’t have places to move into. I get it because selling your home and buying a much smaller home for the same or more (due to inflation) is a bummer. But something has got to give. Looking at the boomers.

We have friends with very big house (almost twice yours) and they close off a portion of it during the winter so they don't have to heat it. Their pipes don’t burst? I guess not! I know so little about actual home ownership, it never occurred to me to ask.

I looked out my window the other day and saw my bra hanging out in my driveway, just a few feet from the sidewalk. Why? We were moving a bunch of stuff between houses and I had a haphazard (because me) pile of last minute clothing items which included a bra and of course that is the only thing out of a million things I carried into the house from the car. Also, I am very proud of myself for this multi quote thing.

With the divorce I am going to be transitioning from a 3500 sq ft house to a probably 1200 sq ft condo (with 4 kids) and I am both terrified and elated. I'm so excited to purge all my shit but 2 bedrooms for 5 people is not going to math well.
