Our house layout is so dumb. It was one of many things I didn't consider when we were frantically house hunting at 6 month pregnant.

The only time I want a much larger house is when my daughter has her friends over, or is having a loud FaceTime call and they want to stay up all night. The house I grew up in was over 4000 sq feet and my mom was very lucky that when I had friends over, we could stay up all night being loud teenagers and she could sleep soundly on the other side of the house. She spent a very large part of her day cleaning though, lol I really want our house to be the house the kids want to hang out at as DS gets older, but his friends houses have much better layouts and are bigger than ours, plus one kid has a trampoline and a pool and a huge great room for gaming and sleepovers. So I'm pretty sure my dream is crushed. You can be the house with the best snacks! I aspired to have the most fun backyard so we have a big playset, trampoline, and sandbox, but now I’m wondering if I need to have parents sign waivers if any kids come to my house, ha

My tab situation got much better for a while after some chastisement here last year, but somehow it has spiraled again. I just noticed this morning that I have 384 open tabs. 🙃 I will address it today! oh. my. God. I’m pretending I didn’t read that because it’s making me anxious lol.

Our house layout is so dumb. It was one of many things I didn't consider when we were frantically house hunting at 6 month pregnant. Layout makes such a difference. We’ve been looking at houses and it’s crazy how two equally sized houses can feel so different based on the layout.

We both WFH, the kids come home at 3:30, and if we were in a smaller house, I don't know how anyone would survive.

Do you people not shut your computers off at any point? I don't get the tab thing.

A man obviously designed the layout for our laundry room because it is SO inefficient and stupid. It makes me mad daily lol.

I had to get zen about our tiny house because the COL in our city has skyrocketed over the last five years and if not for this tiny house we couldn’t afford to live here.
What I wouldn’t give for 1500 sq ft and a garage. But alas, I have 950 and a shed.

I couldn't tell you how many square feet my childhood homes were. They were about yayy big.

Our house is 2700 sq feet over three floors and I do like being able to sit upstairs in the living room while the kids are two floors down yelling and carrying on and I can't hear them. It costs a lot to heat, though. We have friends with very big house (almost twice yours) and they close off a portion of it during the winter so they don't have to heat it. It's the a/c for us. It's not cheap to heat, but from June-Sept., our power bill makes me want to cry.

It baffles me that in the year 2024 I still receive wedding invitations addressed to me by my husband's last name by my peers. I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed.

We actually gave up square footage when we moved to get a great yard and a good school district for DS. We technically only lost unfinished basement (aka storage) since the new house is a split foyer, but it's been an adjustment.
SD only has another six months living here full time, though. Which is absolutely wild.

I had opinions about house size at one point but now H and I are working at home and I would not want to move into anything smaller. So it’s certainly a circumstances type consideration. But we also were super intentional about not having rooms sit empty. We knew we wouldn’t ever use a dining room so we built an office and media room, which became a second office. Yes, I preferred smaller houses and even thought my current place was a bit too large for us BEFORE it became my work and live space. I could use an extra room or a different configuration now.

Confession: I accidentally (key word) tried to feed my kid a moldy bagel yesterday. It was the last one in the bag and I didn’t notice the mold on the bottom. I toasted it, put cream cheese on it, and he was halfway through the first half when he saw it.
This is how he develops trust issues.

We're currently occupying less than half of a 1500 SF house. I either work in the living room or at the kitchen table and sometimes my husband works in the same room as me or in an unfinished (but heated) room upstairs. We work together so I guess it's kind of like working in an open office. Some day when we're done here we'll each have a small office on different floors, which will be an upgrade (for me).
It's cozy here. 😅😭

We had to limit DD1’s sleepover this weekend to 6 friends bc we just don’t have the space for more… but I’m also glad bc 7 tweens is enough. 😂 My confession is that I very rarely get emotional about my kids getting older, but I cried a bit this morning about DD turning 10. Not in a “I wish it wasn’t happening so fast” way, more like “I don’t know what I did to have such an awesome kid, she is the coolest and sweetest best” lol. I was more in my feels with DS1 turning 10 last month than I have been for any other birthday or milestone. Not sure what it was about age 10, I remember being so damn exited to be double digits when I was that age.

I try my best to know people's last names post-marriage, but I don't always know that someone didn't change it.
Especially in this world of social media and emails and all the places where you do and don't change your name and it may not match what you've done legally.

I sent a wedding invitation to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, when it should have gone to Mr. Smith and Ms. Jones. I was mortified when I realized my mistake. But they're my ILs' best friends and I didn't think to question what my MIL sent me. Now, many years later, my MIL speaks of them to my kids as Mr. and Mrs. Smith and I always think it's odd.
