I really wish the schools I work in had AC in all parts of the building. The only rooms with AC are the main offices and libraries. I am melting in my office.

cp3, I would have had a hard time keeping my shit together if I walked in on that mess...oy. mrsmonogrammed, 100oz of milk is AMAZING!! Good for you girl! nevertoomanyshoes, Um, no you are not in a position to allow someone to recovery at your house currently. Is there really no where else she can go? Can you all go to her house a while? I mean really. No. I am so sorry.

I just found out this afternoon that dh is traveling all of next week. Yahoo. That leaves me to get everyone ready for back to school, supplies purchased, clothes changed out and orientations attended. I looked at the trade board at work and decided to pick up three shifts just so I could have some space, they could be entertained and I'd make some extra $$. I feel like every time I turn around lately we need money for something. Car repair, tree treatment (damn emerald ash!!), new dryer for a rental we own, dance sign ups (really wish I had skipped that right now!), school supplies and medical bills. On the bright side, we found out our insurance starts over September 1 and we didn't use it at all during August so we are actually going to put all of our expenses toward the new deductible rather than using the plan for 4 months and starting over in January. I am trying to find the small pros amidst some very not fun things. Now if I could just sell a house. That would make a big difference.

dizzycooks, its a small thing but does your kids' school have the Target list assist? It seriously saved my ass this year and made supply shopping SO EASY.

We have a lot from last year so I really just need to sort out what we actually need. If I get it done this week I’ll do it over the weekend with the rest of the world.

No. I am so sorry. No unfortunately. SIL never helps with this stuff and mil doesn’t feel comfortable staying at her place anyway (I don’t blame her). Her house doesn’t have enough room for us all either. I’m hoping one of her sisters will help as she is retired but I’m not holding my breath.

clementine it doesn’t snow here but it’s so much easier putting baby in the seat inside, with that super warm insert and a blanket and also quicker to put in the car. It’s winter here now.

I’m spoiled by no snow here, too... I hadn’t even thought of that with the car seat transition. I’m sorry friends.
The childcare workers for MOPS managed to get DS2 to take part of a bottle this morning! It was freshly pumped, and they apparently had to shuffle him between people and re-warm the bottle a few times, but they got him to eat something. I’m so relieved - he’s been refusing a bottle for two months now.
After two insurance-based therapy options didn’t work out, I booked an appt with a place that came highly recommended and even though they don’t take insurance, they have a sliding scale and availability on the weekend. It’s still $80 out of pocket for each hour session, but we decided to make that work for a little while because it’s more important that I get in as soon as possible. I’m relieved to have it on the calendar.

Catching up -
I’m hoping to keep the bucket seat as long as possible. Ideally my son will gain 5 pounds before then and he can move up to a booster style and she can have his convertibles (because convertibles =$$$). But he’s gained a pound in the last 6 months so that’s not likely.
For winter what I did with G was found a thin fleece snowsuit that was easy to put on and thin enough to wear in the car seat but warm enough for going quickly to and from the car.
G has also dropped his naps the last few weeks and will only sleep in the car. He’s a miserable grump most afternoons and trying to have him do quiet time in his room has so far been a bust.

clementine, Michigan here. We do quality fleece (Columbia is my favorite) & layers, plus a blanket. I made my oldest a fleece tie lap blanket (basically, a yard of fleece, folded in half and then tied on 3 sides) and it's worked great through winter for my older two, so we'll be using that again, too. If we're going to be out out in the cold and not just in & out of the car/store, I buy fleece sleep & plays from either Old Navy or Carters a couple sizes up and then again, layer underneath & on top.

Cc: clementineThese are the best blankets/products for cold or wet weather: rainorshinekids.com. I tie them to the bucket seat and to DD1’s car seat so they have blankets that are pretty much weather proof available to the am at all times. They are worth their weight in gold.

MIL’s dog is super annoying and needy. Her friend with a similar breed dog sat her once and said “never again”. We will probably have an open the first night she stays so H is thinking he leaves the dogs at his mum’s in the (warm and closed up but with dog door) garage and then bring them here or hopefully MIL is well enough to go home the day after (unlikely). Unfortunately MIL isn’t great at retaining the info and details from her doctor so we have to find out a bit more about discharge instructions and recovery expectations before we can plan. I’m so stressed.

The baby is biting and chewing everything in sight. She chomps on anything she can get her mouth on and it’s making me laugh so hard. I pick her up and she’s going in for the chomp on my face 😂

nevertoomanyshoes I hope that her procedure goes well and she doesn't have to stay long. We have only sold one place and it was empty in a seller's market so I really feel for you. I only had to spent about a week deep cleaning a condo after having horribly dirty tenants.

The first one seemed like the worst last time so I want it to break through so I can start worrying about them

For both buckets seats and convertibles I guess. Just bring the coat and put it on after you take them out of the seat? Hashtag first time mom. With L and the convertible, I had to warm up the car before going anywhere (by actually going outside and starting it), then dress him in layers, carry him out to the car and then put a big blanket around him that I had to bring inside all the time because ifnit was in the car it’d freeze. I’m hoping with the bucket I can get one of those winter cover things and then it’s just snap and go and no crazy shenanigans.

Sorry I've been mia...life is getting a little crazy right now. I've been dealing with trying to get a new roof for my house, a new mail box because someone hit it over the weekend, and meetings for DD's school. Plus, I found the perfect job teaching at DD's school and I'm currently kicking myself because I don't have a current teaching license. I guess the good news is that this perfect job made me excited enough to work on getting my license renewed. It's going to take some time, but I'm hoping to get it renewed by next year.

I live in the south, so our winters are usually pretty mild. I just used one of those blankets that cover the carseat to block the wind, and a light blanket on her in the car. I would also bring a jacket and put it on her when we would get out of the car.

I guess staying in the bucket seat as long as possible might make sense and just loading up on blankets with a fleece jacket or something similar.

Yes, central NY here. Glad y'all are talking about the winter part. I will for sure keep him in the bucket seat as long as possible. Probably a hoodie and hat if needed and warm blankets while whisking him inside.

Silly baby. He's been busting out of the SwaddleMe the past couple of nights, and wakes himself up sucking on his hands. I'm trying out a Halo Swaddle/Sleepsack I had from DS1 that's a little bigger, and I think I managed to get him wrapped up a little tighter...I think. Here's hoping he sleeps okay in the new thing - changes to the sleep routine always make me antsy.
I know we're coming up on needing to ditch the swaddle, but I'm in denial. We had the Zipadee-Zip that worked okay for DS1, I hope it works better for this baby.

I might be in the minority but I don't find convertibles to be difficult in the winter. Winter jackets aren't universally incompatible with carseats. Some are bulky and unsafe, but there are plenty of warm options that compress nicely enough to be worn under a carseat harness. Do the pinch test. Put the kid in their carseat, tighten the harness, take the kid out without adjusting the harness. Then put the kid back without the coat and see how much slack there is. It shouldn't be more than a pinch. LL Bean Primaloft jackets tend to be fine, and I've heard raves about the Patagonia puffball. Anything with packable down fares well IME.

calendula thanks for explaining how to do the pinch test! I wasn't sure what the guidelines are. I still think I would rather be doing car seat buckles inside than standing in the open car door when it's freezing or below.

I think I hit readiness for convertibles earlier than most because my kids are huge. L is already nearly 20 pounds. It isn't long before I legitimately cannot carry the bucket around, so the convenience factor is just water under the bridge for me.
