Serious question: when do you girls find time to work out? I mean I’m up at 05.30 with dd, then the day follows, either with both kids or at work. By the time both kids are down and I can sit down it’s around 8.
ETA not trying to make excuses, but with evening alone/away and that fact that I like to do things just the four of us, there’s just very little time left 🤔.

I'm back to eating every three hours. I have a list of options on the fridge for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. It's a pretty extensive list so I won't get bored of the same foods, and I can make the right choices. The hardest part for me has been around 7 PM when the kids are in bed, and I'm getting ready to get to bed myself. I'll stand in the kitchen with MH and just talk and eat and I'm not paying attention to how much I'm eating.
I'm also trying to wrap my head around the difference between feeling full and feeling satisfied. I like the entire act of food so much that I want to feel satisfied (read happy) with every meal and snack, but that's not always going to be the case. A couple of slices of an apple, a hard-boiled egg and six or seven almonds will make me feel full and will give me the energy I need, but it may not make me feel satisfied, and I need to learn to be okay with that for now.

By the time both kids are down and I can sit down it’s around 8. This is where I am right now. I'm also useless at night, so I can try to do it at 5:15 when I typically wake up, but I'm also trying to get a cuppa coffee in me, get ready for the day, and try to be super quiet so Charlie doesn't hear me. Until I can figure out how to dedicate the time to working out (which might be the sacrifice of doing it at night time even though I don't want to) I'm going to try and sneak in moves -- push-ups, jumping jacks, squats, even a Burpee -- whenever I can.

@nam, maybe we can help each other figure it out. Yes! And I feel you at the full -vs- satisfied, I need to learn that too.

I'm fortunate that on my work days (3 days a week), I get out at 3pm and can go to my boot camp class before getting the kids. On my off days I can go to an early morning class before MH goes to work or I workout during the day at home with the kids. Working out with them is hit or miss and my workout often isn't as good, but they like it and I like teaching them about exercise. I also sometimes take them to my workout class, but try not to do that much now because they are getting realllllly hard to entertain during it.

MH and I also really try to help the other prioritize exercise, so I may leave him upstairs to deal with two cranky kids and getting dinner started while I go in the basement for 20min to get in a quick workout. Or he'll go Saturday morning even though we are usually kinda scrambling to get our day started if we have plans.

This is a great idea for when I'm working from home. I worry I'll just resort to making a meal of chips and junk because I just don't want to think about what I can make/eat that is healthy.

I did hello fresh for a while and I’m now thing about Marley spoon... it will force me to eat differently and not resort to hamburgers/pasta/soup/quiche etc.

It really just depends on my kids mood when I get my workout in. If they are playing independently and getting along (meaning I don't have to break them up over a toy every 2 minutes) I like to do it as soon as we get home, like 5:15. Or I'll get dinner going, like rice in the cooker, vegetables and salmon in the oven and I'll do it while it cooks. When I do this I usually skip the warm up and cool down. If that all fails I hand them to DH and get it in after dinner or while he gets them ready for bed. Because we're all in one room right now he can lay down with them with a movie on and they usually forget about me long enough to get it done and get a shower. Jack is normally pulling the shower curtain open because he finally noticed I wasn't there lol.

I made my smoothie this morning, which I haven't done in awhile. I'm going to try and get a fitbit workout in after work, it shouldn't be too hard, it's only 7 minutes. I also need to redo my blue and get Cadence's exercises done. I'll do the same stretches as her to keep her interested in doing them. Might as well do them with her, it helps us both. I just feel like I have no time and then I get stressed and eat my emotions with a side of cheetos.

guster, I think you just can't have the bad stuff available. You can stand in the kitchen and eat carrot and celery sticks til the cows come home and it would be way better than potato chips or cookies or whatever.

I feel pretty lucky that we don't have the bad stuff available most days. My problem is portion control. Real food. Good food. But I eat far too much of it. Leftover dinner or yogurt with peanut butter, pretzels with hummus, avocado toast. I just don't have an off switch with it. What I did last spring was take a small Tupperware container with a portion of pretzels, two small cubes of cheese and berries and I would take it out of the kitchen and eat my snack somewhere else. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go back to that. ETA: but you are right, when there is bad stuff available like cookies or ice cream, I'm eating that for sure!

nam2013 My day is much like yours, up at 5:45am and I don't sit down until about 8:30pm, at that time i want to be one with the couch. A person can absolutely lose weight by food alone, I lost over 30 lbs last year and I did not incorporate exercise at all. So i wouldn’t stress too much because then, for me anyway, I go on a downward spiral about trying to find the time to exercise while eating my ice cream.

I need to do something. My intention was to get up with Charlie and just do my own version of a workout while he was watching TV, but now that I have both of them up, it's a little more challenging. I may have to aim for tonight. and just do things sporadically like push-ups, squats, and jumping jacks throughout the day. I did my exercise yesterday while both girls were up. They mostly stayed out of my way, and even tried some of the moves themselves. So it might not be as bad as you’re thinking in the end.

I tend to eat better when I'm working out, so I try and do both. I only notice a difference in my weight when my eating is on track (which is the hardest part for me).

But Charlie is a bit of a daredevil these days-- couch climbing, jumping etc. he's good if I give him the iPad and a show.

wineallthetime I want to start 7.0 after baby too! I’m doing good still going to the gym, although it’s much slower usually 30 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical and then weights. My eating has been crap the last few weeks because of the holidays and dh being home. I want to get back on track tomorrow, but with only a few weeks of being pregnant left I definitely have the mentality of “I’m going to eat what I want now, because I won’t have this excuse now!” I’m good with exercise, I usually go 5 days a week right after I drop the kids off. I know I’d have a super hard time if I worked though, because if I don’t go right away in the morning I usually don’t go. Eating (when not pregnant) I’m usually pretty good, but I fail big time with snacking at night and alcohol.

A person can absolutely lose weight by food alone, I lost over 30 lbs last year and I did not incorporate exercise at all. This is where I have to be. It's healthier for me to manage my weight and nutrition through food, and for now, focus on whatever exercise I can get done. But if it doesn't get done, I need to be okay with it because my eating is on point. I like working out. I used to love the gym, and I loved certain classes, and I will get back to it, but my lifestyle doesn't support that right now, and that that doesn't mean I'm doomed to a life of an unhealthy weight.

guster nam2013 I’m in the same boat. I’m up at 5:15 and don’t sit down for the night until 9 or 9:30. The last thing I want to do is workout at that point. I already eat healthy, minus the wine, so I’m going to try and cut back on that. I really need some exercise at some point though. I try to do squats or leg lifts or something before I pee. Just little things here and there. It’s nothing like I used to do though. Before M I was exercising/teaching/dancing 3-4 hours a day. I really do miss that.

I think I'll do BBM at home today. I may do 6.0 though so I don't have to join (I know it's free) and can do 2 videos if I want (with skipping the fit test). I'll probably do 7.0 all the way through post baby, so interested to hear what you all say about it! I think it was 6.0 that I started last year and it was awful, she was beyond annoying. I'm pretty sure 5.0 is the favourite so far.

Exercise helps me tone and look better in clothes, bit sometimes you just can't bring yourself to work out. Eating is something you have to do anyway so while it requires more planning and a little extra time it's not as tough as trying to find an extra 30+ minutes however many days a week.

As far as plans for myself; I've thrown out all snacks and junk food yesterday, very dramatically of course, and weighed myself this morning. I'd like to be down about 12-15lbs by May 1, totally doable.
The plan is to follow the eating like I was still doing JC; so breakfast, nutrition bar, lunch, fruit, dinner, snack. That will for sure jumpstart my weight loss and get me back on track.

vino I plan to loose weight by altering my food intake. Like guster it’s not even the snacking part (which is there no doubt) but more about eating to much real food, bread, pasta, rice etc. I really hope dd is almost done nursing.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that hasn’t been able to find time to exercise. It doesn’t help that I’m, how would I say it, challenged in the athletic department (for example, when a ball comes my way, my first response is to run/duck...).
