I just saw on a Facebook moms group a woman who doesn't buy teacher gifts, but instead buys the school a target gift card and asks that it be used for school supplies/toys/crafts, etc. I would still give teacher gifts because it's nice for them to be appreciated, but i have been giving the director a gift for the last three years (usually three times a year) and I think I like this concept better for her. At this point, I will probably just continue giving her personal gifts because it's established, but thought it might be a nice idea for anybody else who's interested. At M’s school they have little tags hanging outside the rooms that serve as a wish list for each class. It’s really helpful for knowing what they want. (But also not great because they have a carpool policy so almost no parents go inside)

What in the world do I get DH's very conservative grandma? For my H’s (93 y.o) grandma, we’ve done things like car wash gift certificates (when she was still driving) or a gift card to her favorite restaurant she goes to with friends. This year I got her a nice silver double frame with photos of the kids. Before my grandmother passed but was still in good health, she liked long necklaces that she could put on over her head (as opposed to dealing with tiny clasps). One year we noticed she needed new mugs, so I got her some and ditched her old ones for her. Generally tho, I try to avoid a lot of ‘stuff’, because how much does and 85-90 y.o. really need, KWIM?

I ended up just texting her and asking her what she wanted. She's got her eye on the food processor attachment for her kitchen aid mixer so I got her a gift card to put towards that. Not fun but practical. Normally there's a big gift for her (last year they bought her and grandpa a trip to California) and we all just chip in on that so I never have to think about it.

For my mom I think I'm going to set her up with automatic delivery of her dogs' food from chewy. I'll set it up for a couple of months that way she doesn't have to deal with the cost of feeding them, nor will she have to drive to buy the food. Since she is obsessed with her dogs, I feel like this will be appreciated. First I have to make sure they have what she feeds them.

I got this for my cousin. I’m feeling very proud of myself. She LOVES the Golden Girls. My ring tone for her is the theme song.

What in the world do I get DH's very conservative grandma? A framed picture of Obama? Just kidding. Lolz. I was going to suggest the Pete Souza Obama photo coffee table book. Or maybe a donation to Planned Parenthood or an LGBT organization.
As an aside, my grandma is Catholic and conservative democrat, who has surprisingly loosened up over the years. I mean, she's still conservative, but she's accepted my cousin living in sin and whatnot.
ETA: She's 91 and wealthy so in need of nothing. I usually get her framed photos of the kids or candies/sweets. I got her some fancy hot chocolate, dried fruit, and lemon curd spread this year.

Finally done with teacher gifts. Ended up with gift cards for n's teachers to old Navy/gap for the one that has kids and gives us hand me down gap and old Navy clothes. Target for the single teacher. J's teachers got bottles of prosecco and sbux cards. And some candy. And had to contribute to school holiday funds. Good thing we aren't doing adult gifts in my family, this stuff gets expensive! Well deserved, but still..

Ok, so we are hosting MH’s Dad, brother, SIL, niece (17) and nephew (22). Niece’s 19 yo boyfriend whom I’ve never met and is in the military stationed in WV. And nephews fiancée who is 24.
We always get gifts for all of the family. I am lazy and just do gift cards for everyone. Do I get something for the boyfriend we’ve never met and the fiancée we’ve only met a few times? Do they get a gift card too....or maybe a card with $10 worth of scratch off lottery tickets inside? I’m at a loss. WWYD?

lfig Since you are getting gifts for everyone else, I would definitely get something for the other two, probably giftcards +1 +2, not exactly the same, but my grandmother always has a new home health aide with her (bc she is not delightful), so I always have an extra gift card ready for whomever might show up.

Also, lfig, I like the scratch off lottery ticket idea This is actually what the grown-up cousins are doing this year (we did it last year, too) Everyone has to bring $25 worth of scratch off lottery tickets. We spread them out on a side table and scratch in rounds after the kids do presents and before dessert . Whatever the pot is, we split evenly.
