My FIL had shoulder surgery this morning. His relationship with MH is...strange and strained. His GF took him to the hospital and he will be staying with her for recovery for a while. But she is texting me updates, then I forward them to MH. It is just all strange to me. While I appreciate the updates, I feel like she should be sending them to MH. And I don't know if anyone is updating my BIL so I am trying to decide if I should forward to him as well. It is all weird to me. Plus MH's aunt (FIL's sister) is texting me asking about it and why we aren't at the hospital with him. Acting like we are wrong for not being there. For starters he barely mentioned the surgery to us, it's just shoulder surgery, his GF is there, and they have a weird relationship. I kind of feel like i am stuck in the middle, the glue holding it all together. If it were not for me MH probably wouldn't talk to his dad hardly ever, and they are business partners. Lol.

yummeecookee, that's so hard! I'd probably talk to her before about how everyone looks different (and mention different ways) and that's what makes everyone unique and special. I don't think I'd mention the little girl specifically. This is exactly what I would do and have done with Dude. I know it sinks in because he'll randomly come up to me with a little Batman figurine or something and say, "he doesn't have any eyes. But it's okay because that's how he was made and we're all different." I think if you take this approach, then if she says something it's more likely to be along the lines of pointing out how "we all look different" than "you don't have any hair and that's so weird" type of thing.

Pete is off today so he's taking Dude to his 4 year well visit.
This morning Dude asked if he "could prepare by watching Daniel Tiger get a shot." So we watched that particular episode and I think it helped ease some anxiety.
There is a shop right around the corner from the pedi that has vegan donuts so Pete has instructions to pick some up on the way home.

Are we weird that we both go to the yearly well visits? I have fomo and we both like hearing from doctor about how he's doing.

To build on this, you could have her watch the DT episodes about how everyone is different tonight too.

tallb not weird if that’s what you want to do. I am the only one who has ever taken the girls to the doctor. DH came to their very first visit after we were discharged from the hospital and since then hasn’t been to one.

After sleeping for 14 hours straight, she seemed happy and refreshed at 5:30 this morning! I didn't take her temp before work, but she didn't feel super warm. Thanks for asking

I sent him once he didn't ask all the questions I would have and when I asked him he couldn't relay back everything the Dr. has said. So he got banned from doing them on his own.

I just take the kids because of MH's work schedule, but lately I would like him to be there since I typically take both kids to back to back appointments. An extra hand would be nice! MH has taken the kids to sick visits on occasion, but typically I take them to those as well because I have a more flexible schedule.

H has never been to any of Evie's appointments either, I schedule and take her to all of them. When I was pregnant, he also never attended any of those appointments. Granted he travels and works in a different part of the city than our doctors offices, and if I asked him, I'm sure he would attend, but for an annual visit, I don't think it's a big deal if he misses it.

MH has taken M to a sick visit (where he asked me what he was supposed to ask the dr...) and that's it. I don't trust him to fill out the paperwork correctly as far as progress, etc goes at a well visit.

tallb not weird. I feel like we ask different things so it would be nice but it's not likely both of us can get the day off together. I think doctor visits are probably an almost even split, or maybe I do 60% and Pete does 40%. He's very good about arranging his schedule to help with these things if needed. I really don't know how I could continue working if he didn't. ETA: the only time there was any issue was when I wanted him to tell the pedi we had transitioned him to a vegan diet. I wanted her to know so she could do more blood tests if she saw fit, he thought nope, some doctors are really weird about this and we don't need the headache. If he's growing fine, that's all that matters. I'm more in the camp, "if there's a problem, I need to know so I can make any necessary adjustments." Anyway, he did tell her and much to his surprise she was very encouraging and said it was great, and as long as all his annual iron labs are good she doesn't need to run anything else.

MH has been to a few of the first visits but I schedule, keep track of, and take them to all appointments. I’ve thought more than once that he’d be a mess without me, being home manager and keeping track of everything.

DH came to their very first visit after we were discharged from the hospital and since then hasn’t been to one. MH came to one or 2 in the beginning with S. I believe with B he drove me to the 1st one b/c I wasn't released to drive yet, but after that I always go alone. This sounds terrible, but he asks stupid questions that drive me crazy (he did it the couple of times he came to the OB with me, so I mostly went alone too). So I'd rather just go alone. But I don't think it's weird if you and YH both go, if that's what works for your family!

He took S to 1 sick visit b/c he picked him up from DC and went straight there. He came home with random superflous information that I already know (like give him tylenol for a fever... no shit) but nothing I needed to know (like when he could return to DC). So I prefer to do it myself. I also tend to be a bit controlling with stuff for the kids. But it falls 99% on me so I have to be...

hahahahaha, what!? I missed this story. I thought he was staying at their house and she came home from work and he was naked. Did i make that up? Nope, You didn't make it up. Sadly, it happened. Pretty much just as you said it. He decided to wash the only clothes he had with him, so he got undressed to take a shower, then, while naked, threw his clothes into the washer. I came home just in time to see him naked, bent over putting clothes in the washer. Oh memories...how I wish I could burn some of them from my mind. I am so glad he has his own house now.

Hi everyone 👋
I’m currently eating breakfast #2, which is J’s birthday cake btw, and drinking my second hot cup of coffee. I didn’t want to jinx anything by talking about this day, but I have a complete me day. Kids are at daycare, I have zero appointments, no grocery runs. NOTHING.
I’ve got laundry going but other than my only plan is to sit on my butt and clear my recorded shows. Pure bliss.

vino, does each day have it's own egg with something in it, or is it just chocolate? Evie loved the Advent calendar she had last year when she got a piece of chocolate every morning!
