Just wanted to share a good eating out tip! I ordered pho with steak and the noodles on the side. When it came I added all the vegis and a very small portion of the noodles. My numbers were great and DS ate the rest of the noodles!

For me it’s not so much the actual poke, it’s when I forget to engage the needle so I push the button and hold my breath and nothing happens and it’s like a tease and I’m not sure if I just didn’t push the button enough or it’s not engaged Baha. It just happened to me so I thought of it. It’s like when you missed a step on the stairs but you catch yourself. Well maybe not that dramatic, haha.

My fasting number was 116 this morning, I called my OB because after 6 days of increased meds I'm not noticing a change. They changed my appointment from Thursday to Monday morning and we'll see about increasing/changing my meds. I don't want to go on insulin so I'm hoping there is another option but I want a healthy baby more than I don't want to be on insulin. I'm 32 weeks today and I know this is peak hormone time for messing with glucose levels so whatever it takes...

My post meal numbers are 98% great it is just my fasting numbers that are the the problem. My high school friend with the 10 pound baby and 5 days in the NICU have "scared me straight" so to speak. I was taking this seriously before but super seriously now. She is already in the 75th percentile (about 4 1/2 pounds give or take) and I don't want to give birth to a 10 pound baby or have her get so big that I'm forced to have a c-section.

BTW for those who like chocolate and mint, the Andes mints are a great little sweet treat. Two mints have 6 grams of carbs so that should be easy for most of us to fit into our meal plans when we want something sweet but can't tolerate a larger portion of what we are craving.

It’s been a month since I’ve had chocolate and I’m craving it.

aprilz81 I'm sorry about your high numbers. I hope they are able to adjust your oral meds to fix the issue. The fasting number is the hardest to manage IMO. Keep us posted.

Today I went to a kids Christmas party. The only food they were offering was pizza. I was so bummed because I didn’t think I was going to be able to eat anything. Luckily it was in the cafeteria of a college campus. The cafeteria happened to be open during the party and I bought myself a huge, delicious salad. I have a very happy tummy at the moment.

aprilz81 , what are you doing for a bedtime snack? I’ve been surprised by what works for me in terms of trying different carb/protein combos. I’ve also moved my snack to my midnight wake up. That has helped immensely. Also, I know you know this, but fasting numbers are the hardest to control. It’s not affected as much by what we eat, it’s just those damn hormones! Anyway, I hope you’re feeling better! I've tried various combos of nuts, cheese, Fair Life milk and ice cream and even trying no snacks. NOTHING really makes any improvement and sometimes my numbers are lower (but still above 95) when I don't have a snack at bedtime (which is usually around 11:30). My OB has taken me off of metformin and is starting me on Glyburide today, and because of the medication, my age and a trace of protein in my urine this morning I'm going to have NSTs TWICE a week starting next week. Ugh...

The hormone levels messing with my numbers is confusing me. My numbers have been great. I am managing it with diet. More often than not my readings are below 100 even after meals. My frustration lies in which foods will trigger a high number. Example: about two weeks ago I had my normal eggs for breakfast and I had two small pancakes with it. No syrup. I had a 129 two hours later. That says to me that I can’t have two pancakes. This morning I had the same eggs but with one small pancake. Again no syrup. My reading was a 63 two hours later. How is that even possible?! I am assuming it has to do with hormones but it’s frustrating. I just got used to my eating habits and now I have to adjust them again because I don’t want to be too low either.

Even "regular" diabetics will have different numbers even if they have the same meal at the same time every day. I know it is super frustrating but it really is the hormones and how your body is working on that day & time. We are all just doing the best we can! ETA: And good for you to do pancakes without syrup! I would rather not have the pancakes than to have them without syrup! lol

I eat a lot of the same things everyday and one days it’s totally fine...another I fail. It’s frustrating. I try to remind myself I don’t have to be perfect. If you’re levels are at 63, is that low? I feel like when I get in the 60’s I start gettIng hypoglycemic. Yeah I think it was way too low. I felt ok but was starting to get hungry. I had a snack right after I tested.

Today I almost caved and ate a giant pasta dish at lunch but held back. I want pasta so much!!!! I have cut it from my diet since I'm terrible at portion control.
What food are you missing right now?

Pizza and bagels. The NYer in me is dying for some. Pizza is a big one for me. I can eat thin crust pizza without too much issue (just not as much as I would like) and it helps with the cravings but I want a night greasy deep dish pizza so bad. I also miss bagels and pasta. I've found that with my medication I can eat Stouffer's lasagna because the meat has enough protein to counteract the carbs. But I want pasta with a ton of garlic bread. I've legit started a list of foods I want after delivery... lol

Luckily I can eat most things in moderation, but who wants to eat in moderation somedays right lol??!! It’s my birthday next week so I’ve told H I want the chocolatiest cake he can get or make after the baby is here, a sub is a great idea I’ll want one of those, and he can get me a seasonal sugary coffee from the Starbucks that’s on the main floor of the hospital haha.

Christmas cookies...I can have one here and there but I want to binge and just eat a ton of cookies/candy and drink some hot chocolate. 😰 I really want hot chocolate. I want to cuddle up with my kid and watch Christmas movies with some hot chocolate. But I settle for water for now.

Speaking of cookies, are any of you trying to plan desserts for Christmas? I’m struggling what to make myself since I don’t love to use sugar substitutes.

Oh also the school in town was doing a fundraiser selling chocolates from a chocolatier, so I bought a nice box that luckily hasn’t come in yet for me to stare at that I’m saving for later.

I’ve been ok with making my own hot chocolate. Cocoa powder, unsweetened almond milk, hot water (could probably boil the almond milk too but lazy when I can just flip the switch for the water haha), cinnamon, and some sugar substitute. I don’t drink it every day so the little I’m using doesn’t concern me and I’m sure I’ve eaten worse things before I found out I had GD or my previous pregnancies haha. I think it’s really good, I might even try just using a bit of real sugar because I put sugar in my coffee in the morning and it’s been fine. My dietician is fine with anything in moderation if it’s working ok with my numbers.

tiffrobot mine says she gets people will have treats and things are ok in moderation and in the next breath talks about if you have 2 high readings in a week they consider insulin so then I get nervous to try anything. Like I see posts about different breakfasts and the only things I’m allowed is 2 eggs with a slice of bread or 1/2 English muffin. No fruit, milk or anything like that.

I always eat the same damn Greek yogurt in the morning since I don't have to cook and know it gives me good numbers. Sigh. Guys! When we have the sugar babies I can't wait to post pics of eating allllllll the carbs here! Lol.

My mom is a nurse (I know I've said this before, but just in case people are like me and don't always connect personal details to the right poster...) and one of her coworkers used to work either in L&D or an OB's office and she said that you would be shocked by the number of women who have GD who don't pay the slightest bit of attention to what they eat, don't test their glucose levels and don't take their medicine or don't take it correctly. It absolutely blew my mind... I'm not always perfect and sometimes I eat something I shouldn't, but I also don't go completely crazy...
Then I see us all here and we get worked up over a few off readings when we are probably doing better than most GD women out there.
