This had likely been covered by now but it's not what it looks like. It's from Plimouth Plantation and those straps were used historically to help toddlers walk. 🤔

Are you questioning my explanation or saying the teacher still should have known better? Both. I mean, picture your child wearing the thing and in a submissive pose in relation to the others. Seems more to it than a not what you think thing. Also given recent times I feel the teacher and any adult present should have known better. Seems very blatant to me but i don't have all the information maybe.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to say this picture was in good taste. What I am saying is that when I saw the picture and the headline, I was disgusted. Then I heard some more context and wanted to share it. I don't know the woman, but I am a teacher who lives in this general area. I've heard a lot about this story and how the teacher was horrified that it went viral and was perceived the way that it was. Like I said, I don't know her, maybe she's a racist bitch who assigned the black kid to wear that piece. Or maybe during this demonstration of colonial clothing that had nothing to do with slavery, she let a bunch of kids come up and try some on and didn't even think about color. She definitely claims the latter. Honestly, the picture disturbs me because I can't unsee my initial impression, but I don't think it was intended that way.

He's as racist as the rest of them. I have to think anyone who agrees to work in that White House is, bc excusing racism IS RACISM.

I noticed a bit ago that they had a small “sensory friendly” category of clothes on their website. Great they are expanding it. I also saw a whole section of candy-free Halloween treats at Walgreens. Nice that they included that and it was well-labeled, front and center.

I don't finance well. Can anyone explain why they would want to cap 401(k) contributions?

I don't finance well. Can anyone explain why they would want to cap 401(k) contributions? It’s the regular people’s investment option. It’s tax free (taken out of your income before it is taxed) and typically has lower fees than other investment options (most of the investment fees are waived). Currently the cap is $18,500 per year + people over a certain age (maybe 55) can do an additional amount (I think $5k) to catch up. I will kill someone if this happens. ETA: I didn’t read the full article, but I guess it’s an idea to help offset reducing individual income taxes. I don’t see this going anywhere.

I don't finance well. Can anyone explain why they would want to cap 401(k) contributions? Because they want the tax revenue now (instead of when people retire) to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. My husband works in finance and he's really pissed about this. It's fucked because for a lot of people not being taxed now is a big incentive to invest in retirement funds. If this goes through people will see the cap at 2k and not invest anymore because they don't want to be paying taxes now through a roth. Of course this disproportionately affects the lower and middle classes.

The financial industry makes skazillions of dollars annually on people's 401(k) contributions. There is no way Wall Street will allow capping 401(k) contributions that low. People aren't going to switch to Roth's without significant incentives.
@juliagulia is correct about the current caps.
The only reason to cap lower is to offset the other ridiculous tax cuts that they want for rich people. Jerks destroy traditional pensions, erode Social Security, and now want to eliminate the primary way the middle class saves for retirement. GTFO.
I'm raging.

Ive been in this line of work for awhile...what the fuck is a legislation approval? Is this like The Office, when Ryan sets up Creed’s blog for him? Is John Kelly just giving him fake things to sign and calling them “legislation approvals”?

I hate the 401k cap idea, and I really hope Wall Street shuts it down.
I work for a very small company with no 401k. I only have a Roth, and that alone is really not enough for retirement. MH’s 401k with his employer contribution is a huge part of our retirement savings plan, and limiting that contribution could have devastating effects for so many Americans over the next several decades.
If we may not get social security, out health care coverage sucks and costs a fortune, and we don’t have enough saved to sustain us in retirement, particularly if we face health or mobility issues and need long term care, what happens to the MILLIONS of people in that situation in an aging population?

Basically, very few people under the age of 50 are ever going to able to retire. We will work until we die or are too sick to work. If the latter, we will have to move in with our kids and mooch off them. I can hardly wait.

Also, there are two other pension problems that no one talks about.
First, many states/counties/municipalities have pension obligations they will never be able to meet without jacking up taxes astronomically. So some government workers might get a fraction of the retirement they are expecting.
Second, many union pension plans (aka multiemployer plans) are underfunded. Hundreds of thousands of people are relying on pensions that are expected to be insolvent in the next 15-20 years. Retirees are ALREADY experiencing significant pension cuts. These people are elderly and physically cannot work even if they could get someone to hire a 75 year old disabled truck driver. We are going to have destitute elders right at the time we are undermining the social safety net.
And, PS, the government agency meant to insure these union pensions is itself facing a funding crisis.
Enjoy your career, because it is never going to end.

(It shouldn't, I know, but it does.) Interesting that there are questions about both of his foreign wives, though
