I ate ice cream instead of chips. Pralines and cream. Yum! Good choice. One of my favorites!

So people in my area of the country... yummeecookee @tallblonde...I'm sure there are others I'm blanking on...what kind of coats do you buy your kids for winter here? I'm looking at things ranging from a down puffer jacket--which seems a bit much, but maybe I'm wrong--to a wool peacoat, to a quilted barn-style jacket (too light?) Obviously I'll dress the kids in layers and whatnot, and they'll have a fleece or similar, I'm just wondering what I should be preparing for. Last year we did a light fleece for fall and then a puffer from gap for the winter. This year I picked up 2 coats during the Nordstrom sale - a north face fleece for fall and then a NF puffer for winter. He is outside quite a bit at school, even when it's pretty cold, so I wanted something pretty warm and would be useable if/when it snows. The puffer does seem like it could be overkill though. A light weight puffer would probably be fine or a barn jacket or peacoat. I know MH has the Patagonia thin puffer and I loved borrowing it instead of my fleece since it wasn't too hot. Winter is a crap shoot around here. My neice and nephew normally could get away with just fleeces in NC, and your are kind of in the middle. Let us know what you get! (I need to get N something, but kind of hoping we get a hand me down from my neice when we visit next month).

Yes, we lived here for 2 winters (although my memory has been dulled by time and kids) and I remember one winter in particular was pretty cold, but I usually just wore a wool dress coat since I was working. We did get a bit of snow one year but nothing crazy--I think they had a lot here last winter, though. For Caroline I was looking at a couple at Gap, and one from Dillards. All more of the puffer style. I'm all over the place for B. They do get a lot of outdoor time at preschool and lord knows this kid isn't going to stay indoors all winter, so like you said, he needs something he can play in. Thanks for the tips! eta: wow, I thought I had posted this when I typed it at 9 this morning. Oops. eta again: that is a lot of snow yummeecookee! Kind of making me nervous, lol. B was complaining about being cold a couple weeks back when it was 70 so maybe we do need puffers!
