I don’t usually go here but I’m on the verge of a panic attack with all the healthcare news this week. And you know, the general state of... everything. LT for commiseration. I feel like I'm going to have a rage stroke whenever I think about it. When I was fighting with my computer at work yesterday a pic of 45 came up (yahoo news or something) and I muttered "fuck trump" as a reflex response.

Also can someone explain to me why Rand is okay with this bullshit? He took a hardline on repeal, but now he's okay with chipping away at the ACA?
My only hope is that this is blocked by lawsuits and if not, they go down in 2018 because everyone's premiums skyrocket.
Maybe congress will overturn the EO? Lol.

I just got caught up on that family in Afghanistan story and, shit is weird.
I acknowledge that we don't know the full story and there could have been coercion/violence/force involved on the part of their captors. But if that's not the case, I'm very disturbed by a seeming willingness to go through childbirth and introduce additional kids into that situation.

Who was discussing kick boxing as a rage outlet? I'm back from this morning's class. I really recommend it. ( I also do YouTube yoga to calm myself down)

I'm shocked by this coming from Cornyn. I would believe the Senate could get their shit together to do something about the CRS payments. The House though? Nope. This is exactly what I'm scared about.

I listen to the Crooked Media podcasts on my drive to work. One day, I got to work, walked to my desk, and my phone had a minimeltdown. Podcast came on, very loud, and before I could hit pause, Dan Pfeiffer says something along the lines of "Fuck Trump". Whoops.

Brain dump ahead: I appreciate you all very much. We're in a very poor state that accepted the Medicaid expansion, but in most States we otherwise wouldn't qualify for CHiP. We are basically middle class with no employer-offered insurance: poster family for exactly who is getting screwed over on all sides of these shenanigans. We're also in the sweet spot to see our taxes go up if the proposed plan goes through.
If CHiP is not funded, I'm estimating a quarter of our monthly gross income would be needed for insurance at our current level for all of us. That's after the current tax breaks we get on our premiums, which I have no idea if we'll even get those, either. This is why people drop insurance. This is not feasible!
I just need to write this out. I cannot believe how terrible this administration has been in such a short time. I'm just one family, who would generally be the very picture of "traditional American values" by the people who voted for this man: white, Christian (well, husband is. I'm not religious), husband works hard and wife stays home with the kids... it kind of makes me sick to be their cliché, but it is even worse that I know *we'll* be ok. We have the resources to cut some things and regroup and deal. So many people don't, and these elected officials don't care. They don't care at all. Even here on this board, so many people say "calling tomorrow but I know it won't do any good." And it doesn't.
I don't know where I'm going with this. I'm just so angry and sad and everything feels so weak and ineffective.

ktg, brain dump all you want. One thing I realized reading your post, is that our calls *did* work in terms of shutting down the half dozen repeal attempts. However, where we will have an issue though, is moving forward. Because its easier for elected officials to vote no due to public pressure than it is for them to work together and fix something. I don't know the answer either, but sending you hugs. one thing I was thinking is contacting local media, and asking them how they are covering this issue for your area. Because I'm sure you're not the only family there affected by this, and nothing scares elected officials like local papers/tv going after them.

morecoffeeplease hmm, I should look into that. I don't even know what the local news is saying since we don't have cable. I am sure I could find info online, though.

To be fair, I highly doubt they were offered contraception. However, the whole hiking in Pakistan with a very pregnant wife seems strange to me. And his statements make pretty clear he's very suspicious of the US government and very religious. All in all a weird story and I can't help but think there's more to It, especially considering his ex-wife.

ktg, I'm really sorry. Have you looked at all the plans in your state yet (I'm not sure if the rates are all posted yet)? Definitely do because some states are in situations where gold plans will end up being cheaper than silver this year because of the CSR shenanigans. And triple-check your eligibility for subsidies before re-enrolling in anything. I will keep calling about CHIP. I'm so sorry/angry on your behalf.

I'm really glad this conversation is happening on the phone and not in person or Facetime bc I can not hide my abject disgust

I will never understand taking resources away from children.

Paul Krugman is all of us: I think this puts wayyyyyy too much faith in his Cabinet. What about any of these people makes us think they will invoke the 25th?

I am so puzzled by this. I'm pleased that he's pursuing the case, but I'm surprised. And if the law is the law, then.... enforce it broadly? Aiding Transgender Case, Sessions Defies His Image on Civil Rights nyti.ms/2zaIG17
