coconutbacon, was looking at your planner more closely and the red snapper meal sounds delicious! And I am intrigued by caramelized cabbage.

I ran just short of 7 miles this morning, so I got my exercise in for the day! I am planning on doing a short yoga session this evening to get my stretching in before bed. I also had what felt like a really luxurious, but compliant breakfast— a corn tortilla with sautéed peppers and tempeh bacon, an egg, pick de gallo, and a couple avocado slices. Definitely not a weekday breakfast, but a really good weekend option.

did anyone bite the bullet and actually try bulletproof coffee? I feel like I need cream but I'm worried that will be gross lol.

Bulletproof coffee is nothing but hype. If you like it and it fits in your day, cool. Enjoy. But it does nothing special.
If you need creamer still, you can make your own fairly easily (depending on your level). Honesty the first WLC was when I broke of using creamer. I made my own with almond milk and protein powder for a while but I got tired of doing it.

My first whole30 broke me of milk in my coffee. I thought drinking black coffee was going to be one of the hardest parts and then discovered that I genuinely like black coffee and never went back. As a bonus, I feel much cooler ordering black coffee, but that's just an extra now. 😆

I did find that we had to find some other options for grounds because the flavor of the coffee became much more important.

Ultimately this is where I want to be with coffee, but am pretty far. I started off with 4 cream 4 sugar I am down to 2x2 but it's still a lot. For now I have been just drinking tea because I can handle it black but I do miss coffee.

That's funny, CestLaVie. I drink black coffee fine, but I miss honey in my tea and have a hard time drinking it without. That's one of those habits I'm chronically working on. GhoatMonket, the actual quality of the coffee is much more important now that I have nothing to mask the taste.

The quality of coffee is definitely important when you are going to drink it black. Splurge on something a little nicer than normal. Also, experiment with different roasts– I've discovered that I really don't like French Roast or the darkest roasts. I prefer a medium roast, but I also enjoy a light roast. I do my coffee black, or sometimes with a touch of almond/ cashew milk if it's available. Also, when I first started drinking black coffee, I brewed it with a little bit of cinnamon, which helped me get over some of the bitterness.

CestLaVie, this is the caramelized cabbage recipe I am riffing on: cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12373-pasta-with-caramelized-cabbage-anchovies-and-bread-crumbs?mcubz=1 It's Melissa Clark's from the NYTimes. She mixes hers with pasta, but I am going to omit that and do all cabbage. I'm also replacing the bread crumbs with coarse almond meal and some Italian spices, and I won't add in the pecorino, but I may stir in a little miso paste for extra umami, and/ or sprinkle some nutritional yeast on for "cheesy" flavor. And I'm going to add in some shrimp for protein. I haven't made this yet, so I'll be working off of taste. I have three heads of cabbage in my fridge currently because they keep coming in my CSA and I can't go through it fast enough, so hopefully this will help solve that problem!

coconutbacon, that looks really good! DH brought me home a giant wedge of my favourite cheese... So I will probably be losing a point here and there for that. But I don't mind because it's really nice cheese lol.

For now I have been just drinking tea because I can handle it black but I do miss coffee. I usually do one sugar and a lot of 2% milk. Like cafe au lait style. I'm not sure I will ever get to the point of liking black coffee. Maybe I'll try honey in it this time around. I'm still exclusively nursing the baby, so I'm doing Kickstarter and adding in a bit of cheese here and there. It's still a huge improvement over my typical diet.

Today could have been better, but lack of prep played a lot into that. Well, and a wedding.
DH wants to cut out processed carbs. He didn't eat a lot of them while deployed and he's gaining back more than he wanted now that he's home, so he has motivation to go that route. This morning for breakfast we had fried potatoes instead of multiple pieces of toast. I burned the fuck out of the bacon, so there was no over indulging there. Cut the eggs down with some whites I needed to use up.
We picked up some groceries and got some things ready for the week so we can both have a good week.

My diet must have been so shit considering the headache I have been nursing the last 3 days... I have been tracking on MFP and I am eating the same amount of calories as before just way less sugar. About the same protein carbs and fat though, just different sources.

I was dealing with what I think was a sugar detox headache yesterday and eating some pineapple seemed to help. (And it also tasted super sweet!)

Well DH being on board lasted about 12 hours. I had to drag him down from getting crap for dinner (and then learned he had junk all day).
I keep looking for where I lost a point today for food and there isn't one! Need to get a little more water in but otherwise a good day today. Need to get food packed for tomorrow.

I'm struggling today. I have a cold and my sleep was interrupted by the four year old. I am craving all the carbs. Ugh. Sleep deprivation in particular leads me into terrible nutritional choices.

Minerva, sleep deprivation is the worst. It really makes everything else seem harder. I hope you get a full night of sleep tonight!

Not getting good sleep sucks Minerva. Hopefully tonight is better for you. Sadly for me, it wasn't, but I'm refusing to let it sidetrack the day. I made myself to some banana-peanut butter-egg pancakes along with coffee this morning. It felt like quite the indulgent breakfast.

Minerva, that sounds so good! Sleep was a challenge last night. I got it in but just barely. Food has been great today because I was prepared. My dad wants to go out for supper tonight so I will see where that lands me points wise. Depending where we go I may be able to get something compliant or I may go totally off the rails lol. We'll see.

I'm going away the first week of October, so I've been trying to collect and save indulgence point s to use for then. Today's been hard though— I'm really jonesin' for some carbs!

coconutbacon you have more willpower than I do! I knew I had my work fall equinox feast today and I still couldn't help by use my indulgence token yesterday haha. But I am eating so so so much better overall it's a win even if I lose all my points today. Although I work with a lot of men and they are all bringing meat (+1 mashed potatoes). So I may not have to use any points depending what people bring lol. Have a good day everyone!!!

We're almost through week one! How's everyone feeling?
Are you looking forward to the next lifestyle challenge: morning gratitude?
I'm feeling really good. I'm already down some weight, which I know is likely water weight, but it's still motivating, and I definitely feel less bloated. The first half of the week was a little rough for me as I went through sugar detox. (It didn't help that I binged on all of the bad things the week prior.) But now I'm feeling healthy and strong. I've been paying attention to hydration especially– I think I had been in a state of perpetual dehydration for the past couple months since I had basically only been consuming liquid in the form of caffeine or alcohol. I've also been trying to push myself in my workouts and I have a 10 mile race on Sunday, that I'm feeling confident about.
I like the idea of the upcoming lifestyle practice, although I'm definitely going to have to set a reminder about it on my alarm.
