Seriously. You are a hundred % right. I wanted it to be Friday when I woke up. Bleh.
Not much going on ATM. Babies napping in crib and I'm in the rocker between them (see sleep thread).
We went for a walk this morning and it was cool enough that we put hats and jacket on them. I think the cooler weather is here to stay?
I need to buckle down on their bday details. I have things pinned and have a lot of the food figured out. It's their outfits, cake, and decor that I need to finalize. And invite but whatever on those, prob the easiest part. It's only going to be immediate family (parents, brothers, sisters, and closest two friends couples- but that puts us at just under 40 people in my sisters tiny ranch house. We're doing it there bc she has a three season enclosed porch which is better than just my living room and kitchen and dining alone.

Oh also, bc I don't have a million other things in my head every day, H has informed me he wants to go vegan. Nothing that had a mother or a face. Okay buddy, when you start doing the meal planning, shopping, and cooking I will GLADLY eat whatever rabbit food you put in front of me.
I could prob go without a lot, if not most/all, meat - but don't take away eggs and dairy dude. Yogurt and cheese are my good friends.

Could not be vegan, kleigh, and agreed, it seems like a big time commitment--from finding product substitutes to recipes to shopping, etc. Easy for your H to say if he doesn't have to do all the legwork!

Morning!
The sun is out today--hooray!--so hopefully we can get outside for a bit. C had a rough night and I'm exhausted--maybe the vitamin D will help.
Have we talked about Halloween costumes yet? B's is figured out but I'm coming up empty for poor C.

kleigh What made him decide to go vegan? And yes, it seems like summer checked out early. I am not prepared for the cooler weather yet for C. Most of the 18 month hand me downs we got were summer. So oh darn.. I'll need to go baby shopping. flamingo I haven't even thought about C's Halloween costume which is funny since it's his birthday. I'm still not sure how we'll be handling the day of because it's his official birthday but I also want to take him out trick-or-treating.

Morning. I have a 10 month old today. But he slept like a newborn last night. It's been days now. He was up every 2 hours last night and for the day at 5:45. Trying to get him down for a nap but he's not having it. Pass the alcohol. kleigh vegan is tough. Has he ever done it? Why all of a sudden? flamingo I need to think of Halloween ideas as well. I don't want to go too crazy because we'll probably only hit up a couple houses since the kids are still small. What's B being?

waitwhat goldenlove He always "talks" about it....mind you he's he one that is the meat lover. I only eat meat bc it's easy to come up with meals lol - grilled chicken, baked pork chop, etc lol. But what sold him was some story on Bill Clinton, maybe it's a Netflix documentary or nighttime or something saying basically we can eradicate heart attacks by doing this.

Umm kleigh could not do. Also tell your H that milk doesn't have a mother or a face and eggs are never fertilized so they don't have a face either. I love veggies but I love my meat too. Oh and that Clinton statement is bullshit. Netflix is known to have very *very* slanted documentaries.

kleigh, no thank you being vegan. Cow is my favorite food. flamingo, we bought a Superman costume from Costco a couple weeks ago for DS1. He has zero opinion on Halloween costumes, so we just picked one for him. I have no idea what to do for DS2 though. All of you with chilly weather need to come to Seattle apparently. We had a record breaking dry streak this summer where we went 55 days without rain. In all of July and August we had a whopping 2/100th of an inch of rain.

jubilantsquirrel MH sent me a screen shot of someone's twitter in Seattle. It said last year Seattle had 45 " of rain. Hurricane Harvey produced 54" in 3 days. Or sumshit like that.

kleigh One of my coworkers is Hindu and she is pretty much vegan EXCEPT for dairy. For her, milking a cow is necessary to keep the cow alive and in her religion, cow is sacred. So maybe that'll make him feel better about dairy lol. I could never give up diary. When we were going all in with Paleo, diary was the hardest thing to give up.

My sister's H & oldest son are now vegan. They did it for health reasons but they also watched some movie, I can't remember which one though. My nephew has crohns and so far he's been doing great the past couple weeks!
It will be hard for my sister to meal plan now though.

That's insane. We had recording breaking rain fall for October-April, I believe. I can't imagine getting all that rain, plus nearly a foot more, in a span of 3 days. I've donated some to the Red Cross, but my work will usually match contributions, so I'm waiting for them to send out that email and then I'll donate more.

Morning. My toddler is living on the edge, she is working really hard on making me want to sell her to the first bidder. Today is our last day in the hotel :: hear the angels sing::
So today is getting the hotel packed up, start changing addresses everywhere, and the like. Of course right now C is napping on me.

I'm going to be the UO and say that being vegan is not only awesome but is not that challenging if you can cook for yourself and meal plan. My reasons for giving it up after 7 years had everything to do with laziness/needing to prioritize my life once babies came along and my career picked up substantially. Someday I hope to go back. I have never felt healthier or more vibrant in my life. kleigh if you or YH ever need any advice or suggestions, I'm happy to help. *TW* super UO/unpleasant facts Re: dairy, IMO it is worse than meat by a lot. At least once animals are slaughtered their suffering is over. Dairy cows on the other hand live for years, throughout which they are systematically raped, impregnated, give birth, and then have their babies snatched from them (males to become veal and females to follow in their mothers' footsteps) and their milk (intended for those babies) forcibly stolen. Again and again and again until their bodies give out and they're turned into low grade dog food. So yes, they are eventually slaughtered anyway. Cows, like humans and other mammals, do not produce milk unless they are pregnant or post partum. Cows do not "need" to be milked. Any woman who has ever used a breast pump will realize the misery that marks these animals' entire existence. Literally being milked by a machine all day long and missing the baby that she thought she would be feeding.

waitwhat B asked to wear his flightsuit again from last year, so he will be a Naval aviator again. I was fully prepared to buy him something new but he loved it and it still fits so #winning. 🙌🏻 I'm thinking maybe a ballerina for C? I feel like I could pull that together pretty easily with a tutu, etc. and maybe reuse the tutu for her first birthday?

I'll sit on dashook's bench on feeling about vegan. I am not vegan but I completely understand the passion that Animal Rights activists have about the treatment of animals purely for food, that people can live without. And lol to 'milk doesnt have a face' unless you drink almond milk thats a pretty fucking stupid statement. Milk comes from cows yo. Still laughing...

Umm you don't kill an animal to have milk which is my point. So laugh away but milk is a by product and doesn't in fact have a face. It comes from cows (or goats) that does have a face yes but it does not.

dashook as someone with intimate knowledge of dairies those animals are very very well taken care of. If they were abused they would literally not produce milk. They get some of the best care. I would have no problems coming back as a dairy cow. ETA I am not bashing your choice to become vegan I promise. I do think Bill Clinton's reasoning is bullshit, not for animal welfare. As someone who is passionate about animal welfare and agriculture I do think there is quite a lot of misunderstanding about the industry and I will happily educate but I don't think your decision is dumb or wrong I hope you don't think that.

dashook I hear why you're saying, but meal planning is difficult when only 2 of your family members are doing it and your youngest, who still doesn't eat meat, survives on yogurt, fruit & cheese.

The other thing with vegan is that it could be much more expensive. The non-dairy bread, milk, butter, yogurt, and ice cream I am buying now is probably double the cost of my normal dairy included items. It also makes going out to eat VERY difficult. But this is all new to me and I haven't found my groove yet.

@flamigo M is going to be a unicorn. Obvi. kleigh is he just trying to find a way to not have to eat all of his mom's Polish foods? I kid. I would struggle without meat and eggs. No dairy is hard enough. That being said, I get it, if you need help I might have some ideas if he's serious. And the N13 ladies have an even better resource over on their board. tgrimes I need to come have a coffee with you
