Ugh, sorry you're both dealing with job issues grumpycat and cnf, talk about non-ideal timing!! My province let's us look up our lab results online, so my glucose was good, 5.3. I am a titch low for iron and platelets though, anyone with any experience/advice? My prenatal has iron, and I eat a reasonable amount of meat I think. I'm not really sure about the platelet part and if that's connected or not. I mean, I could wait to see my MW, but you guys are smart! I got put on an iron supplement (in addition to my prenatal) at some point during my last pregnancy. It may have been after my GTT. Not sure when I started it, but low iron is common in pregnancy. Wait for your doc to advise you on taking a supplement. The slow release iron isn't bad but it can cause constipation.

I'm not really sure about the platelet part and if that's connected or not. I mean, I could wait to see my MW, but you guys are smart! What was your iron level? It's normal for it to be low during pregnancy due to the increase in blood volume. The threshold for diagnosing anemia is different in pregnancy because of that. Your prenatal vitamins have iron in them, like you said, and you can eat leafy greens, lentils, red meat to help increase your iron stores. Try to avoid taking your prenatal vitamin with milk or calcium (i.e. Tums) as it can inhibit iron absorption. No idea re: platelets as the only things my doctors have ever mentioned in the context of my anemia are hemoglobin, ferritin, hematocrit, and RBC. Maybe thatgolfb will know? Or have more info in her book? ETA: Iron levels have to be considerably below the threshold before docs recommend iron supplements on top of prenatal vitamins, according to my OB. In both this pregnancy and my last, I have been advised to stop taking my iron supplements while taking prenatal vitamins. My iron levels suffer a bit for it but I never meet the criteria for more than mild anemia.

I had the pills, and also was told to up my milk in take This is the complete opposite of what my doctors have been telling me since I was diagnosed with anemia 13 years ago. D: I was told lower milk intake, calcium prevents efficient iron absorption, but increase vitamin C (especially when eating vitamin rich foods or taking pills).

Wow I had LOADS of people in the hospital giving me loads of milk jugs all the time to drink. My mum who is a matron also when we got home from the hospital, would continue to give me milk jugs all the time. I mean I drink a lot of milk anyway (cereal) and my iron levels have been amazing this pregnancy. (Which doesn't make since because of my fainting episodes lol) How many doctors have told you that? It might be a different thing in the UK

It might be a different thing in the UK I have had 4 different family doctors* and 1 OB tell me that since I was diagnosed. Google tells me that your NHS lists excessive milk consumption as a possible cause of anemia due to calcium blocking iron absorption. They specifically advise to drink less milk if you're diagnosed, heh. *ETA: I am not a problem patient, I swear. XD 1 family doc was my doc back home, 1 was my university doctor, 1 was my current family doc, and 1 was the doc covering for my usual GP when she was on mat leave. I am suddenly very self-conscious about having a bajillion GPs in 13 years.

I'm so torn.
Should I still have milk like I normally do? Why would they make me drink all that milk if it done the opposite of what it was needing to do

Maybe the advice to drink more milk was due to some other part of your care? That's a good question for your midwife or GP. If your iron levels are currently fine with how much milk you drink normally, I wouldn't change anything (at least not unless a medical pro told me to!).

I just gained way more than expected I have a feeling I'm going to break the scale at next week's appointment. I've gone from "cute little bump" pregnant to "massive whale" pregnant in like a week. People keep asking if I'm due any day. No, assholes.

I am kind of dreading going to pick up DD at preschool. She was a DEMON this morning and I totally lost my cool. H is traveling for work all week and she's just been such a pain. Tantrums for no reason, insisting on doing everything herself, throwing stuff, defiance. She's even giving her teachers a tough time which is not normal.
Tonight I will drown my sorrows in tacos.

misskilljoy, it's like the teensiest bit low, I think hemoglobin should be between 115 and 155, and mine is 111. Okay, looking it up again because I remember nothing. The hematocrit is .32 (s/b .35-.45) and platelets are 149 (s/b 150-400). So you could be right and they are actually fine for pregnancy I could probably eat a bit more iron rich foods though! And not follow them up immediately with ice cream..........

I'm sorry grumpycat that sucks! At the moment I'm surrounded by people that don't want to ask although I did get a belly glance from an old lady at target today.

The guy from the staffing agency did say it sounds like I wear a lot of different hats so they probably wouldn't find someone that could truly replace me lol

I actually had the energy and desire to go grocery shopping after work today, but then the heavens opened up. The streets were flooding, and I wasn't messing with getting two kids in and out of the minivan in the rain.
Guess DH will be bringing me take-out (add me to the whale/pregnant lady club).
