My fiance works second shift and so I'm in bed when he comes home. Last night he dropped his phone and I think I had a mild coronary event. Sheesh.

Well DS is starting braces with all his adult teeth so hopefully once is a charm. You should be good with one round if he has all his adult teeth. But please make sure you ask if he has all his molars AND that there are no baby teeth remaining at all. I've gotten two surprises YEARS after DD1 had her braces removed. Her last molar- not fully in at almost 18 yo- is growing straight at her other teeth. The dentist asked if we wanted to do another round of braces and I LOLNOPE'd that one. Definitely not doing another round of braces at 18, ma'am. His baby teeth are for sure all gone but I don't know about the molars. I'll ask but I can't imagine it'll change anything.

I didn't even give DS the choice of invisalign when the ortho offered it. That kid loses every.freakin.thing.

I did it and there is no way he can handle it. MH is doing Invisalign right now and last week we had an incident in our hotel room. He had left them on the bathroom counter and gone down to breakfast and the cleaners must have knocked one off the counter and either into the trash or the towels. I felt badly for him but it wasn’t the smartest place to leave them.

Both of my daughters had braces at 7- severe issues with not enough space for adult teeth- for a little over a year. DD1 is almost 11 and her teeth are still straight (no longer wears a retainer per ortho instructions) but she has a bit of an under bite the orthodontist says we should address when she has her big growth spurt around age 12. I’m torn.
He strongly advised against Invisalign for both of them, but the price differential wasn’t huge, given it was just stupid expensive regardless.

Yes I just lolnoped right out of the conversation because this kid can't even keep track of a water bottle for more than two days at a time. Even DS was like "ok that's fair."

Ugh I'm sorry. What's going on? Maybe we can help brainstorm Sore throat, cough, extreme exhaustion (sleeping > 16 hrs a day), fever (worse since Saturday), no appetite, and cough induced vomiting (since Saturday). This sounds like my version of COVID and my husband who had pneumonia with it.

The tooth fairy gives DD a dollar, which she promptly hands to me to add to her bank balance (which I do), and the dollar goes right back into my nightstand. Follow me for more parenting hacks. This is the kind of efficiency I need in my life.

Somehow my kid got the idea that you can make a wish upon a lost tooth? In addition to the money the tooth fairy leaves? And also he was like "I heard the top teeth are worth more"? WTF.
My H told him he heard you have to pay the tooth fairy to take your molars because they're big and heavy. 😅

On orthodontics being a racket, I totally agree. My older ds wasn't recommended for an orthodontic appt. by the dentist, but my younger dd had spacing issues and was referred. Ds just happened to go to the appt. with us. The ortho asked to see him too while we were there, and she recommended a palate expander and 2 rounds of braces for BOTH kids starting ASAP. I was like, I'm going to get a 2nd opinion. Ds ended up only needing 1 round, and dd did get an expander but then only needed 1 round of braces as well (and the ortho we ended up at really pushes Invisalign so they both have that instead of traditional braces, but that is another thing I have issue with, that they 'talk up' the Invisalign to the kids and then they want it instead of braces. It has worked well for my kids, ds is almost done and dd is about halfway through so far, but it is a huge pain and they both kinda regret their choice (that I tried hard to talk them out of). Oh no. Don't say that. DD is starting with Invasalign today, lol! Her choice. Our ortho laid out the pros/cons for each but the biggest pro on Invasalign is it should make it easier for her to play her instrument. Guess we will see. I never had braces due to the cost and I really don't know what we are getting into here. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine. I was surprised that my ADHD ds hasn't really lost many sets (they change them each week, so if they do lose one, they just put in the next week's early and wear it longer, he's been at this for like 50 weeks and lost maybe 2), and he also doesn't need reminded about it often, but you are supposed to take them out to eat, and then brush your teeth or at the very least rinse your mouth with water before putting back in, and my ds is just terrible about brushing his teeth, so his go right back in and now he's developing cavities (on his 2 front teeth) despite me, the dentist, and the Ortho saying he needs to brush better and more after eating. My dd I had less qualms about, she is a major rule follower, but for her the issue is that she snacks a LOT, so takes it out, and then forgets to put it back in or wants to wait until we're home so she CAN brush her teeth, so it ends up being left out for hours, which you aren't supposed to do. But every time we go to the Ortho, they tell her she's doing a fantastic job, so that doesn't make her want to do better. But I spend a lot of time asking if her Invisalign is in, if not where is it, and her complaining she isn't done eating yet or ready to put them in.
