In my ambitious first-child, first Tooth Fairy days, I sprayed a crisp $1 bill with some Halloween glitter hairspray. DD loved her sparkly dollar from the Tooth Fairy. So then I had to keep that up, lol. But it was easy (dries in like 30 seconds). Once, late at night, we couldn’t find a $1 bill in our whole damn house for one of my DS’s teeth. DH was like, let’s just give him a $20. The glitter spray was bad enough; not setting a $20 precedent! Finally I found one in DS’s own wallet. Bonus, it was already glittery. He didn’t notice that I borrowed it. (I did sneakily replace it for him later when I got a chance.) DD paid me back for something I bought online on her behalf recently, and there were several in that wad of cash, so now I have a little emergency stash. Ok, I did the glitter shit too but then for the next tooth I was in a panic because I couldn't find it. My tooth fairy performances faded pretty quickly and fizzled out but the children don't seem too scarred. If they ever bring it up I'll tell them the tooth fairy had to save up $$$ for the two rounds of braces (each) and most recently, wisdom teeth removal. Crap, I just realized I have all of that to look forward to with the youngest.

I hate self evaluations and having to pick professional development goals This is what AI is made for - not for copying word for word obviously, but using it to source ideas and then tailoring those to fit your specific position and goals. And yes, self-evals are the absolute worst. I absolutely just used chat gpt for this last week!

They might have one set when younger but then need them again later on. Probably depends on the orthodontist too. Sometimes they only need one round so don't panic. I don't know all of the science, just that I tell my teenagers to note all of the BMWs and Ranger Rovers in the parking lot at the ortho and dentists' offices and to keep that in mind when choosing a profession.

We are going on vacation with extended family in a couple of weeks and I need another swimsuit. I grabbed a one piece at Target today that looked cute. When I tried it on I actually laughed at how little it covered in back. Wtf! I know it’s the style, but it’s just not for me. No one wants to see that much of my ass at the pool.

I stayed at my desk during lunch today because I wanted to read and the cafeteria gets too loud. Something about having an open book and half eaten chicken sandwich in front of me made my coworker decide it was a good time to tell me (in detail) about her partner's skin graph surgery and wound healing issues. At least she didn't show me pictures this time. I really hate in-office days sometimes.

The tooth fairy gives DD a dollar, which she promptly hands to me to add to her bank balance (which I do), and the dollar goes right back into my nightstand. Follow me for more parenting hacks.

Similarly, C cared almost zero about the whole Tooth Fairy thing and thanks to her ADHD she's not great with object permanence, so I was able to reuse the same gold $1 coin for the handful of teeth she even cared enough about to put under her pillow. She'd wake up, see the coin, be excited for 30 seconds and then she would move on to something else and totally forget that the TF even brought her a coin and I would just grab it and put it back in my dresser.

agm04, community acquired as far as I know (but the communication between the pediatrician and me was very sub par) and so far the antibiotics are doing their thing amazingly well. Re: tooth fairy I was super happy my sister set the expectation of 4 quarters with our niece. When it was our turn we just kept it going in case the cousins compared notes. (They did not compare notes).

I would be pissed if I needed two rounds of braces. Just get it all over with, even if it takes longer.

I'm sorry- two rounds of braces?? We are gearing up for braces and I did not realize needing a second round was a possibility? Help? And make sure you check with your insurance. Ours only covers one round of braces Ours didn't even contribute enough to cover one round, and it's a lifetime benefit so yeah, no second-round contribution. Remind me again why we act like teeth and eyes are separate from the rest of our body and not under our health insurance? (j/k, I know the answer to that $$$$)

I tell ya it feels like such a racket. I told my dentist this when an orthodontist office kept calling and trying to schedule a "follow-up" appt. with my oldest (he literally only went there because they had better imaging machines, and then referred him to an oral surgeon), and he tried to argue with me about it, which I understand, but it sure feels like it. I said that I wasn't sending my kid back to the orthodontist until he told me I needed to. I'm expecting that conversation at DS's next appt.

SD needed two short rounds of braces for her mess of a mouth. The first was in 2nd grade bc she needed a palate expander and some overbite correction that’s easier to fix when they’re younger. The second round came I think her freshman year of high school after she finally had all her teeth in. Each one only took a year. Versus four straight years for me starting in 5th grade, I think I’d take her way. Both suck, to be sure. As the child and the parent paying for it.

I’m on my last few days at home. We had SD’s college orientation Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the week is chill time with DS. It’s currently raining so he’s using the Nuggets to build an epic fort around me while I try to read.

DD1 has a little tooth fairy doll with a special pouch for the tooth which makes it really easy to find. But the best part is that she always thought it was “creepy” having the tooth fairy come in her room at night so she always left it in the hallway outside her door. Hoping it sets a precedence for DD2.

My kid’s teeth were jacked up and if she had not had round 1 of braces when she was in second grade, she would certainly be facing an uphill social battle. Like one tooth was in the roof of her mouth and a front top tooth was sideways.

DS lost his first tooth last night. Good thing too because his front bottom teeth are coming in already *behind* the baby teeth. Apparently that's a thing that happens? He's got a dentist appointment next week anyway. But one down and MH played the tooth fairy. My DD2 would be so jealous. We went to the dentist last week and hers aren’t even loose. And yeah DD1 had the teeth coming through behind the baby teeth. They called them shark teeth. 😂 MH was like panicking about it but I knew I'd heard of it before from here lol. I was like no way has this never happened to another kid before.

I also am failing on finding dollar coins for the tooth fairy so he may end up with dollar bills. Where do people get dollar coins these days?? I Always got $1 bill as a kid so I have no knowledge of dollar coins lol

He gave him five $1 bills. Way to set a precedent, H. Now I have to make sure we have plenty of singles on hand all the time. 🤦🏼♀️

My goal this summer is to get our basement cleaned out. I've already made $40 selling baby clothes and DD2's old bike. Today, I spent 2 hours packing stuff to donate. DD1 and I loaded it into my car to drop off tomorrow. We filled the back space of my durango as well as the front passenger seat. I want to donate to a local charity, but might do a place that will pick up instead if it's easier

Like one tooth was in the roof of her mouth and a front top tooth was sideways. DS2 just finished up his first round of braces in 4th grade and he'll have to have another round probably in late middle school or early high school. He had to have two baby teeth pulled and a palate expander to make room for his big teeth, plus he had a cross bite. I think when there's a major space issue they try to get them really young before all the big teeth have grown in, but it doesn't guarantee that things will grow in straight.

We are on our first round (he still has baby teeth) to fix DS’ severe underbite and spacing issues. Then he will need braces again when all his adult teeth come in. We couldn’t wait until all the adult teeth came in because his underbite would have just gotten worse and worse and his spacing is so bad his adult teeth can’t come in properly. At least having braces is cool now 🙃

On orthodontics being a racket, I totally agree. My older ds wasn't recommended for an orthodontic appt. by the dentist, but my younger dd had spacing issues and was referred. Ds just happened to go to the appt. with us. The ortho asked to see him too while we were there, and she recommended a palate expander and 2 rounds of braces for BOTH kids starting ASAP. I was like, I'm going to get a 2nd opinion.
Ds ended up only needing 1 round, and dd did get an expander but then only needed 1 round of braces as well (and the ortho we ended up at really pushes Invisalign so they both have that instead of traditional braces, but that is another thing I have issue with, that they 'talk up' the Invisalign to the kids and then they want it instead of braces. It has worked well for my kids, ds is almost done and dd is about halfway through so far, but it is a huge pain and they both kinda regret their choice (that I tried hard to talk them out of).

Well DS is starting braces with all his adult teeth so hopefully once is a charm. You should be good with one round if he has all his adult teeth. But please make sure you ask if he has all his molars AND that there are no baby teeth remaining at all. I've gotten two surprises YEARS after DD1 had her braces removed. Her last molar- not fully in at almost 18 yo- is growing straight at her other teeth. The dentist asked if we wanted to do another round of braces and I LOLNOPE'd that one. Definitely not doing another round of braces at 18, ma'am.

Don't say that. DD is starting with Invasalign today, lol! Her choice. Our ortho laid out the pros/cons for each but the biggest pro on Invasalign is it should make it easier for her to play her instrument. Guess we will see. I never had braces due to the cost and I really don't know what we are getting into here.

For some reason, DD2 woke up at 4:30 and didn’t fall back to sleep. I even tried laying with her, but it didn’t work.
When we came downstairs around 6, she looked up at the ceiling and asked why those things were following her. She has said something about things following her a few times since. I’m a little freaked out.
