We are getting 90s here this week, and then we leave for Alaska which is showing 60 and rain all next week for us so that'll be quite the difference. My friend is on an Alaskan cruise right now- she picked a great week! 50s there, 90s here.

It’s weeks like these where I wish we had a pool. My girls just stand in the driveway being awkward and staring at the neighbors pool in hopes of getting an invite to come over. do you have a sprinkler or water balloons? I found some water balloons. While we were doing them the neighbor came over to the fence and asked if the girls wanted to go in the pool. So I guess their plan worked lol.

Can you get them one of those water slide inflatables for your backyard? They're 7 and 10. We have a water slide and I think I might need to get more water toys.

Yesterday I did my bi-annual photo dump. I have 20 years worth of organized Google Drive photo folders broken down by vacation or years so I can find any photo very quickly. Yesterday I uploaded everything off my phone from November through now into their folders then deleted them off the phone so I currently have nothing in my phone. Took me 4 hours and was worth it. DH thinks I'm crazy and is like "Why don't you just let icloud back it up automatically??" Because none of that is organized, it would store crap photos that I meant to delete, and it would leave thousands on my phone. I need my way lol

I'm currently on my between-jobs break. Yesterday, SD and I drove to STL for a little shopping. I have a few productive things to accomplish this week, but otherwise I want to do as little as possible!

It’s hot (by our standards) here too. Many schools are letting kids out early the next few days to try to help since the schools don’t have AC. Our district is not doing it because too many field trips are scheduled and can’t be rescheduled.
It should be interesting tonight at DS2’s kindergarten graduation to see how warm the auditorium is.

we are at 114 stage of the summer. it catches me by surprise even after living in phoenix since 1987.
Just moved the baby chickens--they are 14-15 weeks old this week they get a bigger house, better roosts and the house moves so we can put it in big patches of grass under the trees. then we have to figure out which wall, by which door do the nesting boxes go. dh has his opinion and I have mine lol. so maybe in a month I won't have to buy eggs maybe

H has a chipped front tooth and I'm having a real hard time taking him seriously. It looks like someone took a black sharpie to it. Fx it is an easy fix.

I had to drop my kid off at a dorm this morning. It's band camp, but still.

I really love the way my 3YO says “tobbler” instead of toddler. 😍

I'm drinking coffee at 11PM so that doesn't bode well for me and I've gotta make it through the week with twice as much work as I have time left so I'm fucked.

2 of my older fillings needed to be replace. One had a big chip and the other was loose. I was able to go this morning to get them replaced. It seemed to take forever and I am still a little numb. I am starting to feel sore from having my mouth open that long. Trying not to tell H because I'm sure that he will have an inappropriate comment about it. Haha But he is off, and the weather is hot, so we are spending the next few hours in the pool.

I have the holiday off but didn't plan it well. I took the pups to the vet, did some chores and now I have errands before picking up DS from camp.
My last errand will be the ice cream shop, for a solo treat.

I had to drop my kid off at a dorm this morning. It's band camp, but still. It's weird, isn't it? DS stayed in dorms for band camp at my alma mater the past two years. DD and I would go up to watch his performances the next weekend and spent the night at a hotel near campus. She loved exploring campus, while I kept going "this building is new, that doesn't look familiar, when did they get a Target? what used to be on this corner?" And then the mini panic attack when I realized just how close we are to actually leaving them at college for more than a week.

I have to keep aligning myself to where Greek Row is or the stadium because so much has changed. Also he was like "so campus rec is just what you do instead of recess"? So I got to explain college life. He was all "ohhhhhh. I like that".

Clearly, some things have changed since I went there.

The teenagers are home for the summer and while we're not treating them like the indentured servants they claim we are, we do expect them to do some chores while home. This morning I told them that if the chores were not done that I'd be turning the internet options off on their cell phones.
Um, is that something that I can actually do and how? Or what other consequences can I have? Too old to go on time out, too young to take away driving privileges.

I never figured out a way to turn off cell data to the phones so I just collect all electronic devices (and computer/game station power cords, etc) and they get them back when the chores are done.

For cell phone data check with your provider. I'm sure apple has something. Google family link is a thing, but I didn't like it. I use Verizon smart family and with that I can turn off their cell phone data too, or create scheduled times it's accessible. Family link sends them on their merry way once they are 13. There's probably a way around that but I couldn't be bothered to look further.

I had to drop my kid off at a dorm this morning. It's band camp, but still. DD did a band camp 2 weeks ago. She loved every second and thought staying in a dorm was just the coolest. I think she would have stayed all summer if allowed. Was totally weird though and gave me a glimpse of what life will be like all too soon. I hope he has a great time!

I've thought about that but I'll be at the office while they're at home and we don't have a land line. Maybe I'll have to incentivize good behavior instead.
