I'm reading 30 Days in Paris and I'm very meh on it so far. It's okay, but not like DO NOT WANT TO PUT DOWN. I'm like 25% in and I think if I'm not fully invested by Wednesday, I'll start The American Housemate Experiment that just came in from the library.

I'm about 40% into Daughter of Mine and I want to DNF. I'm bored. I'm going to start Ghost Station instead. Both are due back in 3 days so if I don't get back to Daughter of Mine before then I guess the decision to dnf will be made for me, lol. Let me know how Ghost Station is! My hold on that is long.

I read The Gathering and really enjoyed it. Itβs not my typical read - itβs more fantasy/horror than thriller (itβs about vampires) but the writing was solid and it kept me interested.
I also read Drowning. Iβve been avoiding her books because Iβm a nervous flyer but we donβt have any air travel coming up so it felt like a good time. But I was not a fan. I found the writing to be so cringey and cheesy. 2.5 stars rounded to 3.
Iβm going to read Funny Story next. (Happy Emily Henry day to those that celebrate!)

Iβm starting A Thousand Splendid Suns. I am going to read it slowly to savor it, and Iβm taking the time to look up the words I donβt know the translation to.

I was so mad at the end of the kite runner. I finished up Bride. I do like it a lot more than her other books, but the way she writes sex scenes makes me cringe so hard. There was a completely unnecessary conflict thrown in there which was irritating. I still flew through it. Iβm debating between starting mistborn or the lonely hearts club next.

I finished The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden and I quite enjoyed it - 4 stars. It was a really interesting take on the haunted house trope (and a couple of other ones, but they would be spoilers), and the Italian setting was fantastic. I'm currently reading The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqui and am really enjoying it - unless it takes a weird turn I recommend it. Quoting myself because I finished The Centre and the ending fell a bit flat for me. I still recommend it as it is a fascinating concept and it's a short read, but it won't be a on my top reads of the year.

Apparently there was a huge book convention called Readers Take Denver that happened over the weekend that was a huge shitshow. Completely overbooked (thousands of tickets with hundreds of authors, with only 2 days of 3 hours of signing time slots), rooms double booked, preorders never given out, books left in boxes in unlocked rooms for authors to move around themselves, stuff getting stolenβ¦β¦just a whole mess of an event. Rebecca Yarros made a really long post on Facebook about it, apologizing to everyone at the event, expressing her frustrations. Itβs all over TikTok for anyone that wants to check it out.

Man I just finished Prophet Song by Paul Lunch and while it was so good it was a heavy read. It follows the story of a family in Dublin when the government begins a full takeover and move into a dystopian nightmare. It was so visceral and frustrating and sad. I recommend it if you have the stomach for it. It hit pretty close to home in some ways.

I loved Funny Story. It was sweet and funny and I raced through it. I liked it a lot more than Happy Place. It reminded me a bit of Beach Read, which I know isn't everyoneβs favorite, but that was a good thing for me.
Iβm going to read Darling Girls next.

I DNF The Otherside of Disappearing by Kate Clayborn. Started interesting but got really boring really fast.

I've got Funny Story and Darling Girls on my hold list from the library, but it's triple digits for each (over 350 for Funny Story!) so probably going to be a while lol

I finally finished A Little Life. It was five stars, a beautiful read. It took me forever to get through because it's pretty heavy. I also recently finished The Witches of New York (pretty good) and The City Baker's Guide to Country Living (cute).
I am having a hard time getting into books because of FOMO lol. Like I start one, and then I want to start another. I have Zero Days (Ruth Ware) on the go, as well as Fourth Wing. I really want to get into The Women soon as well.
I caved and got myself the Kobo Libra Colour, and I am dying for that to arrive too. I think I am going to use some airmiles to get a Kobo gift card so that I can grab books for it.
So many books so little time!!

I finished The Other Half this morning and was solidly whelmed. It kept me reading because I wanted to know what happened; but the characters were all unlikeable and the ending was just meh.

I just finished Insomnia by Sarah Pinborough. She's the one who wrote Behind Her Eyes (excellent show and book for anyone who hasn't seen or read, btw).
I don't think I've ever read anything quite like that before. She is very good at making you think one thing all through the book and then switching everything at the end. But in a way that isn't rushed and still makes sense to the story. I'd give it 4 stars

Last night DD was telling me about a conversation she had with her friends in their freshman English class and was ticked because one of the boys spoiled a book thinking she and another friend had already read it. But she was excited because following their discussion she had a long list of books to add to her TBR list.
I love that she's found her fellow book lovers.

Watching my oldest develop a love of reading is one of my top joys of parenting. Heβs been consuming the Percy Jackson books lately and he finished the second one and we didnβt have the third so he got it at the library. He read three chapters on the way to ball practice. His squeal of excitement at getting the book just makes my heart glow.

Fwiw, I really disliked The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Mountains Echoed by the same author are two of my favorite books all time. Just much better characters as the main characters. Heartbreaking but great reads.
