This is very much OLD news, but I just learned that the man that illustrated the first 5 illustrated editions of the Harry Potter books, Jim Kay, stepped down from the job due to mental health struggles and that the 5th book (The Order of the Phoenix) was the last book he would have illustrated. It was something I randomly decided to check on (when the 6th book might come out, as I have the first 5), and thatβs when I came across him stepping down to focus on his mental health. It just made me sad for him, but I wish him well and hope that he is doing better.
Anyway, very old news, just thought I would share it here.

Iβm having the hardest time getting into anything right now. Iβm about 50% into Funny Story and I just could not care less. Itβs so boring. No idea what to read instead though. April ended up being pretty disappointing after a strong start. I hope the May releases are better. Ugh I hate when this happens I pulled one of ddβs books this weekend because I knew I didnβt want heavy or thriller which is what I have from the library right now Three of the books I read this month were ones I found while looking for read-alouds for my DD. She didn't want to hear any of them LOL.

cakewench I will be working through the CC series next. I read the first one but then went back to do TOG before finishing CC. I really like Bryce as a protagonist so far. So many people didnβt like her but Bryce was my favourite SJM protagonist. The whole Micah and the vacuum scene brought me so much joy. And Bryce and Hunt are my favourite couple, I just really enjoyed their chemistry and banter, well until book 3 and then I felt let down Bryce is my absolute favorite FMC from SJM. I donβt love Hunt. My favorite male character from that series is Ruhn.

Iβm hoping the Mina Lima ones will be complete if the illustrated ones are not.

I donβt remember if I posted about this already but I finished Ruthless Vows 2 days ago. I liked it a lot. Divine Rivals was better than RV but I liked both for sure.
I started A Strange Hymn which is the second book the bargainer series.

I started listening to The Marriage Act at this gym this morning, and I'm wondering if it would be better to read as an actual book. I've seen great reviews (here even too, I think?) but there have been a lot of characters introduced rather quickly and it's kind of hard to keep track in my head I have done much better reading John Marrs than listening because there are so many characters and story lines.

I finished To Woo and To Wed this morning- that is book 5 and I believe wraps up that series. I hated the first book so much (Violet and Audley's story), it took me several tries to get through it, but the other 4 books I've really enjoyed. I may have to go back and read the first again now that I know the other characters so much better.

I hope that whoever has taken over can copy his style. It would suck if the style changed for the last 2 books. But also, is there an update on the release date? ETA: I forgot that OoP is already out (& I own itπ€¦ββοΈ). Last 2 books.

My entire month, literally, has been readng the TOG series, haha. I am halfway through the last book now and so I suspect I will finish just in time to end the month. I just read book one in a day and am on book 2 lol. I have a feeling it will be a nonstop series read for me too.

And Book 1 was so much different in writing than the rest, since she wrote it when she was a teenager. I do recommend reading Assassin's Blade before starting Book 3. I think there are various opinions on when to read it but I liked having all of that backstory early on.

I can't remember when I read Assassin's Blade, it was either before or after book 3. But definitely read it!

Then book 3 and on. I have Assassin's blade from the library though so the race is on to finish Book 2 first lol

I finished The Phoenix Crown last night and meh, it was fine but a little boring which was surprising given the subject and potential. It was not my favourite Kate Quinn book.

Anyone reading Zodiac Academy 9? I've got 1.5 hours left and I'm an absolute emotional wreck. I don't want it to be over

I think the 5th was out in fall 2022, and they were coming out every 2ish years.

I think I might just hit skip for BOTM this month and get a Mina Lima instead ππ πππ

I'm about 40% into Daughter of Mine and I want to DNF. I'm bored. I'm going to start Ghost Station instead. Both are due back in 3 days so if I don't get back to Daughter of Mine before then I guess the decision to dnf will be made for me, lol. Let me know how Ghost Station is! My hold on that is long. I was a little let down by Ghost Station. I loved Dead Silence but this one wasn't as good. It dragged the first half but the second half was better. I gave it 3 stars
