I finished The Women last night. I will admit, when I first read the title of the book, months before it was published, I was less than thrilled with it, but after finishing it, I love it. Another fabulous novel by Kristin Hannah.

My top Kristin Hannah would be: The Nightingale The Great Alone Adding The Women to the list here Winter Garden (first half slower, but omg to the second half) Also enjoyed Four Winds, but it was a bit longer than necessary for me. I read Firefly Lane probably 15 years ago, and I remember enjoying it, but itβs been so long. I would still rank it under those first ones anyway.

I just finished The Minders by John Marrs and loved it. I do wish I read his books in order though because this group reference each other a bit and I got spoilers for one I havenβt read. I will still read it because his books are fabulous.
Iβve been listening to the DC Smith series by Peter Grainger on audible. The first book was great. Second ok. The narrators voice is so soothing though. I feel like Iβm sitting in front of a fireplace in an English cottage surrounded by hunting dogs enjoying a bedtime story. Iβll keep listening when I need something.
Iβve also picked up a couple by Heather Gudenkauf that I hadnβt read. Everyone is Watching was pretty good and Iβm almost done with The Weight of Silence.

I read a lot of Kristin Hannahβs books before The Nightingale really put her on the map. I loved The Nightingale but was surprised it was the same author if Iβm honest. I really disliked The Great Alone and thought it was ridiculously long and trying too hard. I havenβt read any by her since so Iβm conflicted on if Iβll read The Women. I feel like I should just in case it is as good as The Nightingale.
ETA: Night Road was my favorite by her before The Nightingale.

Is anyone following the Readers Take Denver drama? Itβs all over threads. Apparently after the fail that was 2024, people STILL pre registered for 2025, put down deposits, & then it was canceled & they were told they were non-refundable.

I'm also listening to that series! Agree, second book was just ok but it picks up again. Absolutely LOVE Gildart Jackson's narration. I'm waiting for book 5 and made the mistake of starting Grainger's "Kings Lake Investigation" series in the meantime, which absolutely spoils the end of the DC Smith series... but oh well lol. I'm still going to listen to them.

Iβm having the hardest time getting into anything right now.
Iβm about 50% into Funny Story and I just could not care less. Itβs so boring. No idea what to read instead though. April ended up being pretty disappointing after a strong start. I hope the May releases are better.

I like it so far. It has the last kingdom vibes if you liked that show.

cakewench I will be working through the CC series next. I read the first one but then went back to do TOG before finishing CC. I really like Bryce as a protagonist so far.

I finished Darlijg Girls and thought it was just ok. The first half was very, very slow. It did pick up in the second half but definitely not my favorite by her.
I also read The Last Love Note and thought it was very sweet, if also very sad. It read a bit like a debut novel but overall I really enjoyed it.

So many people didnβt like her but Bryce was my favourite SJM protagonist. The whole Micah and the vacuum scene brought me so much joy. And Bryce and Hunt are my favourite couple, I just really enjoyed their chemistry and banter, well until book 3 and then I felt let down

But yes I agree with all of this. I do like the main protagonist in TOG (not naming to avoid spoilers) as well but I enjoy Bryce's personality just a bit better. Feyre is definitely the most annoying of the three of them, ha.

The ending of book 2 was amazing but otherwise meh. Book 3 was really good.

I felt so let down by book 3. It felt rushed and cluncky, Bryce and Hunt were like a totally different couple and letβs not talk about WTF happened to Tharion and Ithans character development. Plus that ending was meh. And how did it take Ruhn 3 days to notice his friends were missing!!

I started listening to The Marriage Act at this gym this morning, and I'm wondering if it would be better to read as an actual book. I've seen great reviews (here even too, I think?) but there have been a lot of characters introduced rather quickly and it's kind of hard to keep track in my head
