I can't decide if I want to read Expiration Dates. I liked In Five Years, but really wasn't into her other two.
I've entered a slump. I finally gave up and early returned a few audiobooks with long waits. One was True Biz, and I was looking forward to that. Just can't get my mind to focus right now.

Expiration Dates by Rebecca Serle came out in March and I adored it. Julia Whelan narrates and it really only could have been her. I almost bought this one from target during their deal last week. Hopefully there isnโt a big line for the library My library had this on the shelf last week so I grabbed it and am half way through. Very much enjoying it.

No line but none available just yet which works because I need to finish daughter of mine and darling girls if possible first

My Facebook on this day feature showed a post about finishing the book Greenwood by Michael Christie back in 2020, and that was such a great book. I just wanted to mention it here for anyone that hasnโt read it and may be interested. Itโs a novel that spans multiple generations of a family, and also about the beauty and wonder of trees, and protecting them. It was so good. I remember finishing it and knowing he was now a must read author for me, but unfortunately, he hasnโt written anything new since.

I havenโt read most of the thread, but did anyone else pick The Bootleggerโs Daughter for Amazon firsts? I started it while in between library holds and I love it. Iโm about 30% in so far.

I'm going to be the odd person out and didn't enjoy Just for the Summer. I gave it 2.5 stars. My least favorite of the three. Part of Your World is the definite stand out of the series.
I've finished a few books lately but nothing really stands out. The Vacancy in Room 10 was pretty good, I gave it 4 stars, but nowhere near as good as On a Quiet Street was.
Everyone is Watching was a disappointment, it didn't feel like her previous books at all. 3 stars.
Now I'm working on the last of Chloe Liese's Bergman Brothers' books, Only and Forever.

I finished War Storm by Victoria Aveyard last night. It's the 4th and final book in the Red Queen series (not counting the Broken Throne collection of novellas and I believe there's a prequel book about some of the parents). I really enjoyed it, I thought it was a good end to the series. Still some pacing issues but I didn't feel like it was as much of an issue as in book 2 and 3.
CC3 is at the library waiting for me, so I'm hopefully grabbing that today and that's next. I also have Labyrinth's Heart, which is the final book in the Rook & Rose trilogy.

My book club pick this month is My Grandmother Asked me to Tell You She is Sorry. I will be starting it tomorrow. It looks good.
I am in the middle of Things Fall Apart and I think it should be required reading. I bet most of us learned nothing of African history outside of slavery and colonialism. This is a work of fiction, but tells the story of tribal Nigeria in the late 1800s.
So far I have read The Fury, I Have Some Questions For You, Broken Horses.

I read Remarkably Bright Creatures this past week and really enjoyed it!
I started Heaven and Earth Grocery Store last night, but it seems too heavy for me right now.

I have been bad about checking in here! But I have been reading, lots of different things lol.
I finished The Midnight Feast (Lucy Foley, ARC, publication date June 18, 2024) and I gave it 4 stars, rounded up from 3.5 but Iโm being a little generous. It was just slow, and I didnโt find myself reaching for it. It was interesting and I liked how everything tied together at the end. - solid spooky fall read.
I listened to the second Mindf*ck book and it was good. I like just that those are short and action packed, a good palate cleanser.
Iโm currently engrossed in The Goddess of Warsaw (publication date May 28, 2024) by Lisa Barr, and it is SO good. I am about 40% through and donโt want to put it down. Itโs kind of like Evelyn Hugo meets an action packed Kate Quinn historical fiction novel.
Iโm listening to 2 books:
To Kill A Mockingbird. Iโm slacking on my โclassicsโ that I said I would read this year, so Iโm playing catch up. Sissy Spacek narrates and she is really good. I never had to read this for school, so Iโm glad Iโm reading it now.
The Recruit- Cherub #1. DD1 picked this one to read from her school library, so I decided to read alongside her. Itโs listed as middle grade fiction, she said. Itโs like a kid spy thriller. Iโm actually really enjoying it!

I finished The Bootlegger's Daughter and I loved it. Probably my favorite read of 24 so far. Would appreciate if Apple TV or Amazon made it a mini-series.

I just finished The Women by Kristin Hannah. I felt a lot of parallels to COVID nursing and a public that shunned or refused to believe, as well as the devastating spiral of returning to "normal" life. 5 stars.
A few days ago I finished The Wives as my BOTM pick. I did not like it - I think memoirs just are not my jam.

I put down Heaven and Earth for now and grabbed The Girl Who Wrote in Silk by Kelli Estes from my TBR list. It has been amazing so far! I don't know if it's just her writing or that I'm more familiar with the Seattle area in this book compared to Philadelphia in Heaven and Earth.
For those who like dual timeline historical fiction, The Girl Who Wrote in Silk might be just up your alley about a lesser known historical event. Then again, the book is almost 10 years old so I'm probably the last person to read it LOL.

I finished The Longest Race. I listened to it, since Kara reads it herself. It's really good and made me sad and angry all at once. God, Nike, why are you awful!?

The American Cancer Society is doing a Read Everyday in May Challenge. Definitely something to check out for everyone in this group as most of us easily read everyday and itโs for a great cause. It is done through Facebook. I signed up and made my own fundraiser page earlier tonight. You can share your own link wherever youโd like, and thereโs a free printable calendar and such. You also earn a shirt after your fundraiser receives its first donation. Hereโs the Facebook link to sign up to join the challenge (the general link, not the link for my fundraiser), and the picture where I found out about it. www.facebook.com/groups/390396690546322

I finally finished Empire of the Vampire. It took me a month to read. I would say itโs a solid 3.5 stars. It was a new take on a vampire story and it has some great characters in it. However some aspects of the plot were very predictable. I am going to read the sequel but I am going to wait awhile.
I am starting Divine Rivals today.

I finished Daughter of Mine. It was just ok. Not as strong as some of her others and the end was rushed
Iโm over half way through Darling girls. I honestly donโt know that I like it but also want to know what is happening so I must like it some

Overall, I liked Expiration Dates. I did find myself getting a little bored towards the middle but then it sucked me back in.
Now I'm wrapped up in The Unmaking of June Farrow.

I finished up butcher & blackbird and the 57 bus. Butcher and blackbird gets extra points for being different from anything Iโve read. The 57 bus was really good too.
Iโm a little bit into bride now, and Iโve gotta say I already like it more than Hazelwoodโs other books. Iโm digging it.

I finished The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden and I quite enjoyed it - 4 stars. It was a really interesting take on the haunted house trope (and a couple of other ones, but they would be spoilers), and the Italian setting was fantastic.
I'm currently reading The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqui and am really enjoying it - unless it takes a weird turn I recommend it.

I'm about 40% into Daughter of Mine and I want to DNF. I'm bored.
I'm going to start Ghost Station instead. Both are due back in 3 days so if I don't get back to Daughter of Mine before then I guess the decision to dnf will be made for me, lol.
