I’m officially referring to tomorrow as my midlife crisis day. I have a hair appointment where i will be chopping it off and going as light as possible. Then I have an appointment to get my nose, helix, and two additional lobe piercings. DD wants her double piercings soon, I've already decided to do 2nd and 3rd on one ear and 2nd on the other when we go. Helix done last year. Is this how getting older is going?

Advertising for spiced Coca Cola on this page a minute ago. Bleh Son suggested last week to try lemon added to your coke is supposed to be amazing. Peoples just quit adding things to mess up my coke

I have one from a few weeks ago. On Valentine’s Day I posted a mushy pic of me and my H about how we’ve had 14 valentines days together now. And tagged the wrong man, and didn’t realize until the next day. Sorry random guy, hope I didn’t piss anybody off 😬 (he blocked me 😂) This might be my favorite confession ever. 😆🫠💀

We have a soft-serve ice cream truck that started a couple of years ago and my girls love it. They've expanded their season to March 1-Oct 31 and it is just too long. They were so over it by the end of summer, when they were doing less business and so the truck appeared almost daily, right before dinner (always). There is no longer any novelty.

I was worn down enough by salesmen to put a no soliciting sign on my entryway. I hope it works for church folk too.

I wouldn’t bring my kid lunch if they were able to get one from school.
My kids’ lunches are free so I’m not packing anything either.

If the kids can still get lunch, fine. If they can't...huh.
Like if they're going the full day with no lunch, HUH.

I answer the door. Sometimes it's a solicitor, sometimes it's package delivery. Well, we've only lived here a month and I've answered the door twice.

I do not understand in the year 2024 not having a doorbell camera, but I am a curmudgeon.

It used to bother me but I have learned to give 0 fucks about answering my door, even if people can see me or my kids. We have a doorbell camera but sometimes they can see someone through our picture window or if I have the screen on the door opened (but door is still locked cuz I can't do unlocked doors).
I mean people should really know everyone hates being bothered at home. Sales, religion, whatever it is. It shouldn't be surprising when people don't answer

i regularly take stuff to DD if she's forgotten something (i just took her extra reeds because she forgot to put them in her backpack and she's going to her dad's). To me it's NBD, because even me as an adult forgets things quite often.

We were talking about school lunches with other parents and one said they pack lunch for their school-aged kid because they have to pack for their daycare kid anyway and it's no big deal to pack two. I'm also have to pack lunch for my little kid but I think packing two lunches is still more work so I don't. They also don't really like the same foods. I'm already not looking forward to packing two lunches in the summer.

I love that we don't have any windows around the door that people could see into. I'm team no door answering. We have a No Soliciting sign but we've had a few (usually solar panel) salespeople still try. Our doorbell is disconnected and has been since we moved in. I want to get a doorbell camera but MH is resistant for some reason.

We get a fair amount of kids from the neighborhood fundraising for their various things. I really don't mind answering the door for them and wouldn't want to discourage them from coming by, especially because my kids do their own rounds up and down the street when fundraising for their things.

Thankfully since we're in a "sparse suburban" area, we don't get a lot of door to door folk.

Another plus to renting is for most soliciting, if I somehow get caught, I can just say "we rent" and they go away bc I can't do anything to the house.

I’m dreading the day when DS starts asking me questions of what I’ve done. My honest to a fault ways might start a changing. My mom had a real advantage because she was such a goodie two shoes that she never had to lie. Me on the other hand: MH and I had a grand plan pre-kids. He'll talk to them about sex. I'll talk to them about drugs. Everyone can be pretty honest and transparent. Then we had all girls. Like most pre-kid plans, that one has been totally chucked out the window.

I worry about not answering at all because I don't necessarily want people to know no one is home. I always wonder what to do and I assume anyone knocking on my door is there to do me harm (too much true crime, you ask? Perhaps).
Last week someone parked in my driveway, rang our bell and then when no one answered she sat in her car in our driveway for a full 15 minutes before driving off. No one was home but I saw it in real time and was about to call the cops to check when she left.
DS was home alone the other day and I saw someone on the camera who rang our front bell and then when there was no answer came to the side door. I called DS and he said he looked at them through the door, waved, and walked away. I hate that someone might have known DS was home alone, and I also hate that they came to another door when no one answered the first.
Also a few months ago someone knocked very aggressively on my front door and when I didn't answer, POUNDED again. So I opened the window to talk to him and he was trying to sell me something- gutters or whatever. And no car in sight. What a creep.

DS is 11 and I've been trying to casually ramp up the serious subject talks. He's very not into it. How often is too often to pepper regular conversation with info about sex acts and opioids?

This is me. I’m always like “well speaking of…” And there is a class that’s pretty well established in my area that is through one of the local universities. It’s two sessions in person. Well it often gets booked far in advance so I had trouble getting in. I finally got spots for March. And then turns out puberty ed is at the end of March for his grade this year. So March 2024 will officially be the month where no stone is left unturned in our mission to teach DS about all bodies, sex, and everything else.

Fentanyl freaks me out and so I’m ok with talking about it a lot. We are going to get him trained to use Narcan soon just in case. The world feels so different now then it did when I was his age and trying to navigate it has been challenging to find the balance of being too much and not enough. I’m sure my mom probably said the same thing, but I definitely talk about it more than she did.
