I have no desire to go to Disney so that sounds like a dream set up to me 🤣 kid gets to go but I don't have to.
But I do understand the general feelings around it as a whole. I will also add that I did vacations with my BFF when we were younger and I really liked it as well. Sometimes it's fun to go without parents!

My living room was a mess again this morning but I ignored because dd was living trying all her stuff out and then got sucked into her book so the phone was barely out and that just doesn’t happen anymore.
That being said it is now cleaned up again with everything at least under the tree. I’ll still have to vacuum the rug and mop but I’m feeling much better.
We did get to many kitchen things so I need to find space for all that but that’s for tomorrow

Yeah part of it too is that if we did scrape up vacation money I can think of about 10000 other places I'd rather go first. I am hoping H is on board but I'm giving him a couple of days. I really appreciate this perspective!

I've taken down most of Christmas decorations and the stockings. The lights/garland (inside and out) stay up for awhile, I like to turn those on throughout winter so those will stay til February-ish. I will probably take down the little tree after New Year but leave the big one for awhile as well.

He will have fun either way, and I understand your feelings in all directions too. 10 days is a long time, how many days are they getting tickets for? They are doing 4 Disney days plus a meal plan and then 2 Universal days. I guess there's a rest day in there somewhere plus they are driving (from PA!) So no airfare expense but tacks on time He'd also miss the first two days of school but I don't care about that really. Although DS might. I’m not downplaying the expensiveness of Disney at all, but I’d get a quote to see how much it would cost for the three of you, just so you know you fleshed out all of your options. The cost might be lower than you’re thinking. Some of the promotions they have make a good difference too. We drove from Ontario last January and I’d do it again. Disney is absolutely not a ‘must’, so don’t feel bad whether he goes, doesn’t go or goes with his aunt. If it’d bum you out not to go with him it’s worth comparing the costs and then deciding. Maybe it can happen just in a different way or timeline. Your DS lucked out with a mom like you. ♥️

Now that Christmas movies are over basically I need shows to watch I feel like I'm leaning in to Christmas more this week. I was so busy before hand I didn't get to relax. Today I'm reading by the tree with Baileys in my coffee! Laundry too I guess I found lifetime Christmas movies on freeve and since they didn’t really do Christmas this year on tv I’m enjoying them now too

We watched the movie just to see their house.

Whatever stomach bug/food poisoning I had last week came back. Google says food poisoning can pretend to go away? Who knows. But this has been the worst December. And I've basically depleted my sick time at work, I've been so sick.

DD1 is struggling today with her restrictions. She seems better now, but most of the day she was upset and just not herself. I am kind of annoyed at her doctors about it---I have reached out to them numerous times about seeing if some of her restrictions will be lifted--and I keep hearing not yet, but at the same time her mental health is struggling and even though I mention that they don't seem to acknowledge it. I feel like the risks vs. benefits now. Like just let her see her BFF inside (as long as they are healthy) will be HUGE.
DD2 is in school anyway, so she could potentially bring home things to DD1--and at least this will help DD1s mental health.

It's a hard age and a hard time of year. Honestly though, her doctors are going to stick to the protocols. Especially right now with flu and covid rampaging. It's not fair in the general sense and her feelings are valid, but it's unfortunately the hand being dealt.

SD is home and DS is so excited he’s basically bouncing off the damn walls. I can’t believe it’s not even 6:00 yet. I need bedtime.

MyDD1 got the flu or something similar the Wednesday before Christmas and she is STILL sick. She looks like a zombie and has fever most of the time. We went to the doctor to make sure it wasn’t something we could treat. Officially not the flu or Covid, just some other terrible virus.
We rescheduled our family Christmas get together for this weekend, so I’m just crossing my fingers that she is feeling better by then. My dad is too fragile to be around anyone who is actively sick, and DD is tired of being miserable.
I’m trying to do one thing a day that I’ve been procrastinating about and tomorrow *should* be the deep clean of the car.

Have you discussed added precautions to make indoor visits safer with the doctors? Can one or ideally both kids wear n95? You could even do fit testing to be extra safe, and use ventilation and filtration as well.

It's not fair in the general sense and her feelings are valid, but it's unfortunately the hand being dealt. Oh I know. it is just SOOO hard. And I think their protocols must have changed in the last year. I know of two girls that have gotten a transplant in 2022 through CHOP-same doctors and everything and they had way less restrictions than DD1 did---even with their bloodwork looking worse than DDs. I mean, I get it--but it is so frustrating, especially because she is already exposed second hand to everything since I am a teacher, DD2 is in kindergarten and DH works with the public. She is also getting monthly immunity infusions to prevent sickness. I think with the weather the last two days matched her mood, plus hormones. I just feel like when I talk to the NP (who I am just not a huge fan of to begin with)-she is discounting all the mental health struggles too. And of course, DH has been taking her to appointments, so my contact with them is via phone or e-mail. I think they see her at the appointments looking healthy and happy and fine, so they just aren't getting it. DD2 is also starting to complain that no one can come over to play.

fancynewbeesly I'm sorry you and DD1 are struggling with that. I will say that I wonder if a lot of restrictions are due to this particular season - anecdotally, our hospital lifted mask mandates last winter and is talking about re-imposing them again while many hospital systems have made them mandatory again. I just wonder if her stricter restrictions compared to others are not merely a reactive measure to what seems like a particularly brutal respiratory season after last year. Either way it doesn't seem fair, and I think they should at least give concessions when it comes to families who are willing to utilize N95s/outdoor spaces/distancing. Also, not sure if we're problem solving or not here but if you don't like the communication from the NP at your daughter's practice it is well within your right to give feedback saying that and to ask to speak to someone else.

My alarm for getting the kids to school went off this morning so now I'm awake. I tried a new hat pattern yesterday and it turned out super cute so I'm much happier with that.

I slept until 8:50. I can’t remember the last time I slept past 8. I’m usually up by 7. I read for a bit until DD2 woke up at 9:30. I love vacation. 😂

We are tired enough from all the celebrating that I don’t feel bad for staying home, we have new toys and books, usually leftovers and snacks and Christmas lights.

I have an 11 year old today.
Which is crazy considering I am 24 years old. 😂
But wow. It feels like yesterday and now he’s closer to adulthood than newborn. 😱
This year has been super hard but I’m hopeful that 11 will be the calm before the teenage storm.

I don't have any vacation time banked yet so I'm working but every standing meeting this week was canceled so I'm a little bit twiddling my thumbs.
