DH and I go back and forth on telling our 2nd grader that in case of school shooting to smear blood on her because she might be traumatized. I can’t even begin to think what a battlefield trauma training would do to her psyche

More TX fuckery: Schools must offer training on damage control bleeding, trauma tourniquet use, and chest seal dressings to THIRD GRADERS. 8-9 years old. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCKING FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE FUCKING FUCKERS?

Just...JFC. How can anyone think that instead of doing something actually useful, subjecting children to training that even a lot of grown adults can't handle is the right way to go?
I truly don't understand how this idea got beyond a beer bullshitting session before someone told them it was completely fucked up.
Fuck them. Fuck their love of guns. Fuck the gun people who have bought them. Fuck anyone and everyone who voted for them.
Fuck.

They are babies, for crying out loud!
So much for protecting children.
How the fuck is this any kind of "family values" the GQP likes to prattle on about?

I would challenge the adults who voted on this that first they must take this training And if it's good training that would actually be useful it uses scenarios and fake wounds that look scary real.
My boys both took wilderness first aid classes in boy scouts that included fake real looking wounds. The wilderness first aid classes would not allow anyone under age 16 because it was traumatic looking things like compound fractures and serious cuts etc.

Why do I feel like the people who are holding guns once their doorbell rings are also the same people who complain that kids these days never play outside and are always playing video games. They are in fact the very same people.

I wonder what happens if you keep you kid home from school when those trainings take place.
Because I would.

Ugh. You just hate to think the boy saw the news about something in the US and it gave him the idea

I have to block out then teaching kids to tie tourniquets. there is a reason that the suicide rate is super high with EMTs, trauma doctors and the like. Things that require that level of care is traumatizing to all involved.

In case you need a dose of good news, MN House just passed a paid family and medical leave proposal that would allow up to 18 weeks for leave or 24 for pregnancies that had complications. I think the Senate version caps it at 20 weeks. Either way, this is a great start and I'm going to just stay cocooned in my good news legislature right now because the rest of the country below us is on fire.

Minnesota is really showing the fuck up this year. Good to see.
I can't even with gender and sex being too inappropriate and harmful to teach children, but turning them into war medics is a good idea.

We have a rare (for us) trifecta of Dem controlled House, Senate and Gov so they are working their asses off to do all the things before another election. Which I am very much fine with. Last week they passed a gender affirming care bill and our Gov declared us to be a sanctuary state for transgender care and I love him for it.

This is how you do it when you get all three with an actual margin that doesn't allow hostage taking.

God, I feel like I need that training since nothing is ever going to get fucking fixed when it comes to school shootings. Might as well be prepared for the inevitable.

The TX bill about bleeding stations was introduced by a Democrat which makes me think some of the language maybe was unintentional?
But also I don’t know why I’m giving ANY politician the benefit of the doubt 🤨

Actually related to that, I have something on my mind lately that maybe you can shed light on, specifically the phrase "a slower pace in life." What exactly does that mean?
We have friends that recently moved to rural MD to start a farm, one of the reasons cited being a slower pace in life. They are both still working their full time DC area jobs remotely and now also have a 12 acre farm they are starting up, and the mom says things are very stressful right now. The property they bought was about the cost of the house they sold in our area.
Our friends moving to MN also cited the same thing, but they have their 4th grade daughter in eleventy after school activities- so if that stays the same I'm not sure how life slows down. The mom also cited wanting to get away from the politics of the area, which surprised me a bit as well because honestly aside from here and very specific friends, politics is not something that I usually end up talking about amongst friends- granted I am not a close friend (our daughters are friends), but regardless it surprised me. I don't get the vibe that they are closet Trumpers or anything.
By definition of a slower pace in life, I would think my family, staying in the area, leads the slowest of these scenarios.
Is this all code for something I don't know?

Hate to suggest it, but a wilderness first aid class may be useful as it teaches how to fix things enough to keep people alive when you are too far from help or help won't get there fast enough. Check your local boy scout council website calendar as there us often deeply discounted classes offered and they dont card you to have to be a boy scout leader. a good in person class should run 2 days and costs often several hundred dollars.

Is this all code for something I don't know? I read between the lines for it to mean they think rural =more in tune with nature =slower pace. But they still want the job and perks of city life. So they really aren't sure what they are in for. Rural with acreage =lots of work. And a lot of shit.

byjove I'm not really sure either. There are a lot of things that MN does well for sure but they aren't necessarily related to a "slower pace". At least not if you live in the suburbs or the city. I mean, any time I drive in either city, I'm reminded why I prefer the suburbs but honestly its mostly just due to driving and road space. I have lived in both Mpls and St Paul at various times in my life and I don't feel my life was any more 'fast' paced than my life now. If they are moving to an exurb then maybe I could see it since things are more rural and not as developed yet. But I agree that the phrase is strange if they aren't making any changes to their lifestyles or jobs.

And they picked there because the dad can do his same job at this other corporate hub. I don't get it! Just say you don't like the area if you don't, you know? Is it really LowerCOL? Because I could get that, but with my example 1 that's not really true. I'm guessing MSP is a little less costly than here, but probably not a ton.
