I have a lot of trouble rationalizing it because I don't like guns. I never have. I've never wanted to hold one or own one or shoot one. I think if I ever shot someone I'd be beside myself. Like mentally struggle with it. Even if it was self defense. I can't fathom people who own guns and are like...looking forward to using them? Idk if that makes sense.

I'd say us millennials are young enough we'll still be down in the dirt with them. Our two generations together I think will be quite powerful and have a similar social history of school shootings, bad economics, and endless war. The GOP nightmare is just beginning which I think is why they're being as insane as they are. Dictators tend to act ruthless right before they die. Or at least that's what helps me sleep at night. I agree. DS is kind of indifferent wrt politics, but he's said a LOT of kids he graduated with are very opposed to their parent's maga views. It's encouraging living in a very red area, but unfortunately I think a lot of them won't stick around after college because of it either Them not sticking around is a huge pain point in this state. They decry it is taxes, but we know. If you can’t afford anything, even in this state, taxes don’t even register.

Ohioans love to complain about taxes, but overall cost of living (or even the property taxes they love complaining about) are anywhere near the top of the scale I would much rather live somewhere that isn't actively fighting to take my rights away even if it's more expensive, so I don't blame anyone for leaving. We definitely won't be here the rest of our lives either

Like sir, get a grip.

I do not own one because 1) I don't want one, 2) even having shot them (a hand gun at a target and shotgun/hunting rifle), I don't like them, and 3) I know I could never shoot someone, even in self defense, which makes the gun more of a threat to me than a helpful tool. But I know myself. I would not be able to handle knowing I had, at best, injured someone and at worst, killed them. I don't understand these people who buy guns, all excited to shoot them and talk about how now they're protected and the good guy with the gun. You know the real good guys with guns? They're the ones who actually lock the damn things up and follow/respect the safety/common sense rules when they're not locked up.

It’s also so scary to think of how these people had their guns ready to shoot. I can’t imagine how many people are carrying their loaded guns as I cross their paths and I have no idea.
A couple years ago, an aquarium in our area had an incident where a woman left her handgun near a changing table. I always think of that when I hear of these stories. In what world are people thinking they need their guns for a kids aquarium?

I came here to share this also. Apparently Buzzfeed News is shutting down. I know they had some great reporting at times, so I am a little bummed.
This tweet is not referencing the reporting that I will miss. But I think we can all agree it has its place in the conversation.

The Portland mayor is trying to say the reason people are flooding to the northern burbs (in WA) is because of taxes and my dude, no sir. You priced out an entire generation of residents, cowed to businesses and the police union during the summer of 2020, aren't doing literally anything about homelessness except sweeps, and literally don't care about the part of the city that isn't the downtown financial district or tourist destination neighborhoods--you know, where all the poor and working class people live. It ain't the taxes.

The Republican Speaker of the Tennessee House has resigned after the Ethics Committee found him guilty of repeatedly sexually harassing a 19 year old intern. The interview he did with a local TV News reporter was beyond pathetic.

The man who shot the young boy who rang his doorbell is right wing conspiracy theorist who watches nothing but Fox News all day, per his grandson.
What an absolute shock.

Also, I watch Live PD sometimes and I'm amazed at how many people are driving around with loaded firearms. Like, actually in their laps when they get pulled over.

I'm a K-8 school nurse. Last year I had a 4th grade girl who got her period at school and had no idea what it was and was scared shitless that she was sick or dying. I was so sad for her and so grateful to be in a position to comfort and educate her. We are going to see many more young girls frightened of what is happening to their bodies as these bills progress.
But, you know. It's all in the best interest of the kids, right?

This country is becoming an absolute hellscape. Our schools (statewide) outsourced puberty lessons and most are taught by religious organizations now 🙃 There was a lot of pushback recently in our district and I'm glad other parents were upset about it too. Kids deserve good science and fact based lessons

But that sounds like some bad decision making from that mom, and I'm getting concerned that maybe guns in diaper bags is not that uncommon!?

I thought that has progress worked. But nope, we are just going backwards.

Don't learn about puberty they don't know how they got pregnant But don't let them have an abortion Hey at least you can work at fourteen GOP literally want them young, dumb, and full of Having had my first at a fresh 18 (he was born 6 weeks after my birthday) I am a huge advocate of factual sex ed. My parents wouldn't talk about it and I had abstinence only ed at school. I asked to go on BC and my mom said no. It's proven teen PG rates go down when they get a good education. It's so fucking stupid

The number of people I have seen over the years in purse/diaper bag groups asking companies if they ever plan on making a concealed carry bag is...alarming I have no desire to ever own a gun, but every expert opinion I've seen says you should only carry on your person. Bags can be grabbed, left, etc

Kids know that regardless of age or grade I will answer basically anything and I get asked pretty much everything you could possibly imagine. I am so very grateful to live in a comprehensive sex ed mandated state and to have full liberty of what I teach in those units (standard targeted, obviously, but freedom none the less) We just finished up a two week state mandated unit on internet safety, abuse, sexual assault, and trafficking that I co-taught with our counselors and social workers. The rage I feel knowing other states won't let kids know this information is just, I can't wrap my brain around it. They can all go shove it.
