Chris Brown is on my FYP. He’s still doing concerts and women are going nuts for him while he grinds on them. I won’t ever feel okay about Chris Brown because of those pics. Rihanna’s face is forever emblazoned in my brain. It was horrific. I’m feeling nauseous now thinking about it. I think there’s a racist double standard. I also think there was a strong reaction because we saw the pictures. I don’t know of another celeb domestic abuse situation where we had photographic evidence. In Chris Brown’s instance, we have the pictures because we live in the world of TMZ where police are on payroll. I think people can say there’s a racist double standard AND some people won’t ever forgive him because we saw what he did. It can be both.

The photos of Rihanna were kind of a watershed moment for TMZ if I recall correctly.

I just realized I know what it means in context but not why it's called that. From the goog: The word “watershed” is a geographical term that refers to an area of land that divides the flow of separate rivers. Think of it as a literal dividing point: the water is going one way at first, until the watershed moment, when it gets rerouted toward a different trajectory.

I’m for sure saying yes to the double standard that is shittyAF and he can talk about it, but he still did the crime Also I will say again it was white women who canceled him. That’s the part I have the issue with because they don’t cancel the white men. Not that they cancel him at all because I get that part

If they can get Kobe crash pictures they can get other ones but they don’t.

But who in the Chris Brown/Rihanna level of fame did they not try to get pics for? TMZ is grimy. If they can get it, they would.

Fine take away the canceling I think it’s ok to just say that celebrities of color are held to a different standard which is what he was saying that I agree with

But Chris Brown isn’t the guy to be used in that example. He didn’t just have a fight with Rihanna, he’s had multiple fights, he broke the windows at GMA, just a general history of acting out. Celebs of colors are totally held to a different standard but it’s not some mystery to me why people don’t like Chris.

Wasn't he also abusive to Karrueche? IIRC physical abuse may not have been proven but I thought she got a restraining order for harassment?

Again I’ll bring up Nick Carter. He has had multiple rape allegations with violence one quite recently where the woman had special needs. He is still performing at his Vegas residency like nothing happened.
I’ll give you Chris isn’t who should be the spokesperson but he isn’t wrong and that’s all I’m saying

He's a piece of shit. So is Nick Carter. The fact that either still have careers is disgusting. The fact that the victim was another (more) famous person makes it a bit of its own thing as well. It involved two incredibly covered people. eta And Nick Carter did get "cancelled" after the Paris Hilton abuse pics showed up. I understand he's back at it now, but it took a decade +. Chris Brown isn't exactly not performing either.

I've thought about this re: J K Rowling a lot too. There was a big movement to try and get people not to buy the new Hogwarts Legacy video game because of Rowling. Some attacking of the people who were streaming it on Twitch and stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about it all. We're consuming so much art by problematic people on a regular basis, it feels like it's impossible to filter it all. Like I don't want to support crappy people, but I'm also probably not skipping a song that comes on shuffle by someone who has done shitty things. I think part of the issue with J.K. Rowling is that she has basically said that by buying HP stuff (in reference to Legacy) you are supporting her stance on many issues. I could be wrong about that, but I remember her saying something to that effect.

Speaking of Tom Sizemore, I'm never a huge fan of Chris Brown, but a couple weeks he went off on IG posting about all these white celebrities who beat women, but for whom that time in their life has moved way down the list of achievements and accomplishments and they're enjoying celebrity and popularity now without mention of the abusive past. Meanwhile, like the number one thing anyone knows about Chris Brown is that he beat Rihanna and he's not been given the same benefit of downplaying and glossing over history as all these white dudes. Like, Tommy Lee, Christian Slater, Charlie Sheen, etc etc etc "Where are the cancel culture with these white artist that date underage women, beat the fuck out their wives, giving bitches AIDS?" He isn’t wrong Agreed. He can suck, too, but still have a point. Also, I watched the Pamela Anderson Netflix documentary and it's sad how much she obviously still loves Tommy Lee. I get he's the father of their sons, but after how he treated her and the boys when they were babies? Damn...

I know I’m posting in the middle of a more serious convo but I just saw Avril and Mod Sun broke up and Avril and Tyga are dating. Tyga dated Kylie whose sister is Kourtney, who is married to Travis Barker, who is friends with Mod Sun. Wonder if there’s any bad blood in there now lol

I get he's the father of their sons, but after how he treated her and the boys when they were babies? Damn... With the amount she loved and still loves him, it took a shit load of strength for her to get herself and her boys out of that situation. I was surprise never went back to him, just because that is rare in DV situations.
