I disagree. Rip the band-aid off and get it all out. It’s been a drip fest from the British media for 5 years. They literally write hundreds of articles about them a week. They can have their say and move on to the next project. I mean I’m here for all that. I’m not saying they shouldn’t speak their truth in any way. Im only saying there probably should have been more distance between both projects and even in their initial release. Both projects are similar in content so I guess that’s the part that feels like overload to me. I don’t work for them so it’s just an opinion and they can do what they want. No one is stopping them. The content in Harry’s memoire and the things he’s been saying in interviews is what tells me they should have waited - at the minimum with his book. It doesn’t look good for them. They don’t have to take any high road on my account. They want to go low? That’s valid and ok. I guess I am not convinced that Harry's messiness is going to have any adverse consequences for them. This exposure is striking when the iron is hot and not risking people running out of interest. |

But again the stuff I’ve seen is base level shit and he shouldn’t need someone telling him what to say he should know But why should he know? He is a literal prince of the former British Empire. When has he ever had to materially think about the consequences of his actions? I am not saying this to absolve him of dumbassery at all; I just don't have expectations of him. That can’t be the attitude though. I’m a white middle class American woman. That doesn’t excuse me from not knowing. Yes, it means I’m going to fuck up - and do often - but I’m not excused. I am and should be expected to do that material thinking. Before it personally involves me even, as it now has with him. No, it doesn't excuse you from not knowing, nor him. But query as to exactly how much more of the "work" he wants to do. I know he has a biracial family, and, as such, it is for their benefit that he continue to think about how racism shows up in his own thinking and the world around his kids. But will he? The work, as it is said, is hard and uncomfortable and ongoing. This man never has to experience discomfort if he doesn't want to. Yes if he is the man with the true love story that everyone wants to believe they have ( and I really do think they love each other a lot) he will get uncomfortable and do the work. Trust me you do it and you don’t even question it. Like STP said he consistently gets top credit for bare minimum |

The book was free with the credits but the audiobook wasn't and I don't think I want to spend real money after this weekend's interviews

I almost bought the hard copy at Target, but I don’t think I want to actually own it. I keep waiting for it to upload to Libby to put on hold, but no luck yet. I do have a hard copy on hold, but I’m not sure where I land on that list yet.

It wasn’t just Harry’s loss Something I've been thinking about is that Will and Harry agreed that the 20th anniversary documentary was going to be the last time they talked about her death publicly. Now, William has obviously broken a lot of promises to Harry since then and Harry also has every right to share his story at any time. But even though William is a bullying angry asshole who helped make his brother's life hell, part of me feels bad for him that this really traumatic thing that is probably at the root of a lot of his issues is being dragged out into the public sphere again. As much as the whole world wanted to claim her loss, the brothers are the two people who lost the most that night. |
