If it’s talking about the problematic family and paparazzi or staying quiet about it, I’m in favor of talking about it. Put it all out there, the truth will set you free. I completely understand from a personal healing context. I wonder, however, if it's the wisest move in the greater scheme. If you begin to annoy the people whose money you need to buy your book, watch your documentary, support your foundation, attend your conference talks, etc, is it worth the cost? That's for them to say, of course. I'm not personally bothered either way. But others will be, regardless of how easy it is to tune out. It may not matter to them because there are many who do support no matter what

I don’t think Meghan or Harry have ever had an issue with legitimate media. They both understand it’s part of the job. Giving interviews, or being covered at an event have never been the problem. Harry giving (literally) 2 interviews the week his book comes out is barely a blip for most authors. I want to see/read/hear directly from them- not the never ending speculation of others.
The problem is and has always been the intrusiveness of the tabloid media. Cutting fences, hiring drones, paying neighbors for camera feeds is all way out of bounds. Add in the made up stories, the racism, the misogyny and the sheer amount of stories they put out and that’s where the problem is. Meghan was not seen for over 240 days and they still churned out article after article. Harry giving 2 interviews isn’t the cause of anyone’s fatigue.

And, I have already adored Anderson Cooper so I am doubly looking forward to this interview. They both come from famous families and I suspect they will have a good rapport. They both have a little cheek to themselves.

I think they’ve gotten so much coverage that it skews perception of how much we’ve actually heard from them. (Like the Queen’s funeral, they literally had a statement on their website just honoring her, nothing else, and the media still made them one of the focal points of the coverage. As far as from them directly, we now know they did pass some statements for Finding Freedom, and they did Oprah, Netflix, and one magazine story to spread their story. Now parts of it came out during her podcast, but their story wasn’t really the focus of any of the episodes. Two interviews, both airing the same day, isn’t that much for press.

I stand in my truth of being a bit fatigued by a white man who has lived a life of enormous privilege and wealth telling us how hard it was.
Yes, he lost his mother. Yes, he went to war. Yes, he suffered trauma. I am not invalidating that. I'm glad he's in therapy. He's supposed to be living his best BRF free life.

Tapa apparently ate my reply a couple hours ago that was essentially a less eloquent version of this I personally hope they leave the BRF in the rear view after this though and go on living their best lives. If reconciliation was going to happen I think it would have already

I hope they will be able to transition to getting focus on the work they do and the wonderful organizations they support. I do feel like they honestly want to help others and they would rather the focus shift that way. They are probably still figuring out what life for them looks like for them now.

I think it is one thing to critique their content, such as not acknowledging the flaws of the institution that go way deeper than press coverage. But critiquing then for overexposure doesn’t really make sense when they’ve released little enough that you have to actively seek it out to consume it.

I have lots of issues with Harry and there are real, valid topics to discuss around the BRF and white privilege/classism in general. I’m not white, but classism is deeply baked into the culture of my ethnic heritage. I have fatigue with the coverage of Meghan and Harry, but not with the products that come from them.

Sometimes I think if they were more public it would actually help with the tabloid coverage. If they don’t control the narrative, the tabloids just run wild because they have nothing to cover.

Nor do I believe PRH insisted on a clause in the book contract that he had to do advance press. Come on now.

Netflix was delayed though too so it wasn’t supposed to be that way. FTR I am fine with people being over them because I do believe people on here believe things happened to them and understand care about the issues they were trying to bring to the forefront

The series, the book, and a few interviews are really nothing in the scheme of things as they have been pretty close to radio silent since the Oprah interview that aired almost 2 years ago.
I can understand the “again, with this?” sentiments over Harry, an incredibly privileged, wealthy white man, putting himself out there, but again, the series and the book/interviews are the first time he and Meghan are really pulling back the curtain since the Oprah interview. Also, that he is privileged doesn’t make him immune to pain and suffering. It certainly didn’t protect his wife and children as racism trumps privilege and, in fact, was partially responsible. I’m not going to assume “eh, he’s rich, he’s fine” and I don’t think anyone here is saying as such, just things I’ve seen since the series debuted, because I think in my heart of hearts that Harry would give it all back for just one more day with his mother. I think he and Meghan have done much to put this history behind them but that one of the final acts is to share their story, their way, even if only for themselves, so they can speak their truth, out loud, and put it to rest for themselves, regardless of the rest of the world’s reaction.

Oh I believe they did since he doesn’t do social media etc but I follow a ton of authors who do a lot of self promoting on their channels Every publishing house wanted this book. They absolutely would have let his team dictate terms. He's the "get" of the decade. I do care very much about them exposing the trash that is the British media and dragging institutional racism front and center. It breaks my heart that Meghan was so despondent and broken down during her pregnancy that she wanted to stop existing and was denied help. I never want anyone to feel that alone and broken, I promise you. Harry is just a lot for me right now.

I watched another episode of the series today and I still don’t get the criticism that it’s about their gReaTeST LOve sTorY of ALL TIME. I’ve found it to focus more on the works they did, and the bs the tabloids and BRF put them through.

I just think he’s working through a whole lot of trauma very publicly and I have sympathy for that.

I’ll only comment from the perspective of someone who has never ever once given one shit about British royalty and I’m kind of all in on the H&M journey. Some of it is problematic, some is inspirational and important, some is just petty drama that I love to watch. So I’d say they are doing the exact right amount of press to capture my target demographic.
Also, of course he/they will do the rounds around the book and documentary. $$$$$. They are not going to lose attention by overexposure right now. They are riding a wave. (And I think they should.)

The Simpsons recently spoofed the Oprah interview so I do think they’ve become mainstream 😂

Apparently, Andrew’s £12M settlement only had a one year NDA agreement? So in theory the woman could start speaking publicly about the situation again as early as February. Of course, there may be other stipulations that aren’t known yet about who/what she can talk about, but it just goes to show that they really were just focused on the queen’s jubilee celebrations and not wanting anymore bad press while she was alive. One year seems super short for that kind of money.

I’m sure I went overboard but when he said he wanted to be able to answer to his kids when they ask what he did because damn it’s all you can think about. I wanted to make sure that my h and dd knew that I had their back that I won’t let anyone make them feel less than due to who they are and to know they were safe to me. I think Harry is doing that while also reliving the trauma from his mom that he has only just what in the last 5 years started facing and it’s a combination. Also I’m fine being wrong but I can see a book publisher no matter who it is wanting interviews to hype that book up even more. Money talks

Sent me into a whole spiral thing of “what did you do” when all this was happening in the world - there are those memes and quotes and statements that say essentially the same thing that I’ve seen increasingly more over the last few years with the activism increasing and whenever I see/read them I take a beat and think of what my answer would be to my children, and if my answer doesn’t feel “good enough” or makes me proud, I know I need to do more.

Nice that it was your let's see whole point, but social media, regular media, et al has been deluged with H+M stuff. I actively have not sought it out and I cannot get away from it on most platforms. So I don't think the snotty response to Eagles was totally warranted.
