The new season on The Crown dropped today. The actress for Diana looks so much like her. Little William and Harry are adorable.
I keep seeing the queen as Delores umbridge, so that’s tough

I am only on the second episode. Also can’t shake Umbridge vibes. Hoping it fades as the season goes on.

I'm also on episode 2 and trying to shake the Umbridge vibes
I happened to catch the cast being interviewed on the Today show this morning. I forgot it came out today

I watched eps 1 and 2 last night! Love the Diana stuff. Don’t like the casting of the Queen. Do like Philip. Excited to watch more!

I’m on episode 6. The amount of times I have wanted to reach through the screen and slap Charles has not been a small amount. If he tells mummy he tried so hard for his marriage one more time.

This season is certainly not doing Chuck any favors. He is so unlikeable. I’m on episode 6 (thanks to the flu) and have mostly shaken the Umbridge vibes, but I still wish we could have just kept Olivia Coleman and given her gray hair.

I finished the first two episodes and so far just whelmed. Not too bothered by the Umbridge thing, but I’m not super familiar with the Harry Potter movies, so there is that. It will probably be UO, but I might end up liking her more than Olivia in the role. Olivia’s seasons definitely underwhelmed me, too, but maybe it was just the writing.
I feel like it’s kinda sketch that a key plot point in the first two episodes is the death of the Knatchbull’s child. I see where they’re going with it, but… I don’t know. It gave me some pause. It goes back to my original mixed feelings about the show, the weirdness of fictionalizing the lives of people who are still living their lives, it’s very Lifetime. And the Knatchbulls are royal-adjacent, not really anyone who signed up to be part of the Firm. But I’m still watching, so 🤷♀️
I felt like the writing in the first episode was pretty clunky. I can buy Diana spouting off about her marriage to anyone who will listen (including John Major at a house party), but Major’s musing at the window about the young and old royals felt very fake (despite Johnny Lee Miller’s best efforts, love him), and so did Charles talking on the boat with what’s his name Knatchbull. Norton? Nelson? And then the queen spilling her innermost self-reflections to Major on why the royal yacht was important to her. A little too obvious of a device to get a glimpse of her inner thoughts, and it didn’t ring very true to me, unless Major had some sort of priestly confessional quality?

I was like, Jonathan Pryce seems way too old for this time period, then I looked it up and he’s only like 4-5 years older than Philip would have been then. I forgot that Phil was just old AF forever!

I’m only through episode 2, but I really didn’t expect them to have Philip’s “alleged” affair with Penelope Knatchbull. I thought they would have enough drama with the younger set.

All of the flashbacks to the very early seasons are mostly reminding how good those were and how the latter ones have been a bit boring.

I was not expecting a graphic reenactment of the execution of the Romanovs TBH.

Wow. They did the tampon thing Ok now that I’ve seen the episode I’m annoyed at how sympathetic it was to Chuck. I do think the convo was portrayed well but the whole thing was a redemption arc for Charles. 😒

For what I expected to be a very dramatic season, 4 episodes in and I’m bored.

I was not expecting a graphic reenactment of the execution of the Romanovs TBH. Yeah that’s a hard bit to watch. An interesting way to frame QEII’s relationship with Yeltsin, though. I thought it was odd that the show framed Mary as the decider and George V checked out hunting pheasants. I’ve always heard the story as George wanted to help and then backtracked. Hmm.

I finished yesterday and I'm curious for everyone to catch up and give your thoughts. I am bored so struggling to get through, but I will eventually make it. I’m having to watch with subtitles to keep my mind from wandering.

I tried to start it. I’m having a really hard time watching. I’m not even through the 2nd episode and I didn’t even pay attention. I thought it was a me thing, I haven’t been able to really watch new things lately.

I enjoyed the 3rd episode, I wouldn't mind seeing more about the Fayed family. Episode 4 is boring

I enjoyed the 3rd episode, I wouldn't mind seeing more about the Fayed family. Episode 4 is boring I just finished E3 and thought the same thing. It had a Succession vibe. It was an interesting choice to have Wallis and Edward the only royals who appear until about halfway though the episode, but it worked for me. It’s the first episode that’s kept my attention this season.

I finished yesterday and I'm curious for everyone to catch up and give your thoughts. I finished over the weekend too. Though- I'm fairly sure I fell asleep for a bit of the last episode. I think the pace is the biggest issue. I largely embraced the actors, even QEII/Umbridge, by halfway through the season. That's around the time it took me to get used to the S3 switchover so that part is whatever. The earlier seasons covered roughly a decade per season- so a year per episode. This whole season covered...2-3 years? So we got lots of "side" stories vs the main event. I also think all the more modern episodes get more problematic because we all lived through those. We have way more critiques over events we remember vs something that happened 20+years before we were born. Charles should send them a check. Dominic West is way, way too hot to play Charles. And this season was highly sympathetic to him overall.
