Ok, question about the CDC guidance that says isolate 5 days and then mask outside the home a further 5 days. If you've had it, did you stay masked at home the whole 10 days? I'm on day 6 and really only had symptoms days 1-4. I'm continuing to mask at home (and plan to the whole 10) but it feels a little silly(?) when I feel completely normal. My test is still positive, so I'm absolutely resolved to not risk anyone in my house getting it, but I didn't know if my thinking is over-the-top or pretty standard.

We masked until our tests were negative. But we are over the top.

My city has been at a plateau not far from our winter omicron peak for 6 weeks. It's wild to me that the tech companies don't care that their employees are getting it over and over and are encouraging everyone to eat together in the cafeterias.

I isolated at a different house and we decided that I would not go home until I was testing negative. It's my understanding that if you are testing positive on a rapid, your viral load is high enough to spread it. I know the CDC says 5 days, but a lot of scientists and doctors think it should include a negative test to be released from isolation. If the rest of your house has had it with you, then I'd unmask, otherwise I'd keep it up until negative. Glad you are feeling better though!

Ok, good. I'm glad I'm doing the right thing. My parents and in-laws all think I should be unmasked now, which surprises me given how otherwise cautious they've all been.

I heard an interview with an infectious disease doc in SF and he said the plateau is surprising them. They thought we’d see a decrease by now but it’s still holding strong. Great.

I just keep looking at the graph from early last summer when there was basically no virus circulating here but they still had everyone wfh... and now on the days my partner feels like he has to go in he gets asked why he's wearing an n95 because "we're all vaxxed".

Half of my book club has COVID or a family member with COVID this week. It tore through the life guard staff at my community pool. It’s seriously everywhere in my neighborhood right now. It’s going to be a small miracle if my family makes it through the summer without catching it. Ugh.

Is anyone spacing out their kid's second Moderna shot more than 4 weeks? I read that a longer time between the first and second gave a better boost.

It was like up to 8 weeks, not longer than that I don't think.

I think I'll just stick to the 4 Weeks. I don't see cases decreasing anytime soon so I'd rather have that protection from severe disease and worse sooner.

We're doing 4 weeks, mostly because we're moving 4 days after her second shot happens and we figured it'd be more of a pain to try to find a pediatrician in our new location who would be ready to administer it. I'm actually very thankful we found her shot #1 so quickly, the timing was so close I was figuring we'd have to do the first one here and the second one there.

Yikes. I was going to take DS to the movies this week with out time off but that’s now a no for me. And, of course, he starts an indoor camp in 2.5 weeks which I’m now drastically rethinking.

Well the thread says this is not really news cause the R0 numbers are not what we should be looking at Or something like that My immunology expertise is wanting a bit. I wear n95 most everywhere so I'll keep doing that. Need to get the over 50 booster too.

My toddler got his first shot (Moderna) last week. My MIL took him and I'm so grateful. His second shot is scheduled for exactly four weeks later. But also, my gosh we know so many people who got COVID recently. Mh and I had tickets for an outdoor concert in a few weeks and I don't even feel comfortable doing that anymore.

Do you have a co2 sensor? I think they are so helpful for deciding whether a situation is ok or not. With very good masks that fit you well and that you carefully check the fit of and don't remove at all, and with a co2 level that you hold in your head as a cutoff (that is, you're ready to leave in the middle of the movie just like you would if a fire alarm went off) this would be fairly safe. I wouldn't do it because I'd rather watch a movie at home than in a theater even without a pandemic but I know some people are really missing going to the movies.

We decided to just pass for now. We’ve all gone to the movies in the past month so we aren’t dying that bad. DS was able to go for a birthday party where the only people in the theater were people we knew so that was good. I went when it was a pretty packed theater and just kept my mask on when I was not eating. We can wait until things settle again. Apparently the Bay Area is the worst in the whole state right now. Weeeeee!
