I don't see how Snape would be after DADA unless he wanted to be unemployed rather suddenly. That or dead. I recently saw a fan theory that he wanted it because he knew it was going to be Harry's most important class and he wanted to make sure it was taught to him properly. Not sure I buy it. To paraphrase Ron in HBP (movie): It's a creepy class; he's a creepy bloke. I heard that to. There is a book that does a deep dive into Snape and the author talks about that in the book. I think she uses things like when Snape stepped in to teach DADA when Lupin is ill as an example of when he would step in to teach the class. She also sites him choosing to do the dueling club knowing that Lockhart is an idiot so that the kids learn something. The better choice would have been flitwick because he is a dueling champion. But Snape volunteers for it.

Harry has a lot of bad luck at Quidditch matches. I think I'd take it as a sign.

Hermione quickly changes from "you're going to get us expelled" to "let's set a teacher on fire"

Hermione is twisted. She sets a teacher on fire. She is only 12. 😂

Harry is so little in comparison to the others. Especially the Slytherins. The Gryffindors are a much younger team, all things considered. Like Katie Bell is a second year. Angelina, Alicia, and the Weasley Twins are third years. Wood is the oldest at a 5th year. Especially since canonically he is small for his age because he isn’t properly fed.

To paraphrase Ron in HBP (movie): It's a creepy class; he's a creepy bloke. People want Snape to be better than he was. So, so badly they want it. Rowling thinks he's better than he was. That's part of the problem. She tries so desperately to make him a good guy. It just doesn't hit well.

I'm sure there are many papers out there about how people become obsessed with shit men like Snape, but I want to also write one. I think casting has a great deal to do with it too. Alan Rickman's cadence and delivery is the kind that wills end shivers down your spine. And Rickman's a good guy, so people think of him and Snape as the same, when they are very much not.

Rickman might have been a good guy, but he plays shit men so well.
Snape, Sheriff of Nottingham, Hans Gruber, Harry (Love Actually).
Still mad at him for making Professor Trelawney cry in that last one.

Kids are injured, unsupervised and nearly die on the regular. The podcast Goblet of Wine jokes all the time about the death quota they must have at hogwarts each year. A certain percentage of students have to die every year.

I know Dumbledore put the mirror there hoping Harry would go exploring with the cloak. I bet he was hiding all the days Harry visits to make sure he got the full effect and to manipulate him a bit more.
Why else would such a potentially dangerous and powerful magical artifact just be hanging in an empty room?

Ok friends I don’t want to do this but I don’t know how much longer I am going to last. I think I need to go to bed. It’s 10:40 here and I have been up since 6:30. I really want to finish watching because I love it but I am exhausted.
I hope you all enjoy it! I will catch up on the thread tomorrow.

Harry has never seen his parents. This is what he imagines they would look like if they were with him now.

I think Richard Harris was a much better Dumbledore. He has the doddering old fool act down well, as well as the more soft spoken bits. It's such a shame that we lost him before the end of the series.

I don't know that Harris could have portrayed the strength needed in the later movies. ETA: The reason for the recast is sad.

I know he's evil, but I feel like I'd be team Lucius in thinking Dumbledore is a terrible headmaster. Let's send first years into the woods with monsters and something that is killing unicorns, which has to be exceedingly evil.
