Now would be the time to start letting kids know vaccine doesn't mean end game. You still have to take precautions cause you can carry and pass it around (unless of course you don't believe other precautions should he taken).
Delta caused a bait and switch of what we can and cannot do for us as a family. I see now I should have explained more but delta variant stuff was new.

it is interesting that the family specifically included that he was fully vaccinated even in the Twitter/shortened version of their announcement. I mean, would you want to watch the next few days of speculation and questioning if they hadn’t? oh i know. it just still seems like a strange world that you have to be so defensive when publicly announcing the death of a loved one.

My university and SD's district both rescinded their mask mandates as of today. "Numbers are low! What we're doing worked! So let's stop!" UGH.
At least DS's lab school is keeping them.

Some guy at work last week was saying the same thing when I asked him to keep his mask over his nose. "But the numbers keep going down and they just keep doing this mandate thing!" Yes, the numbers are going down BECAUSE WE HAVE A MANDATE! Cause and effect clearly goes over a lot of people's heads.

The kids are only getting one shot right? Or is it a smaller dose but still 2 shots? I've seen conflicting things just wondering if anyone here had any idea

The same world where everyone feels the need to include outdoors or fully vaccinated group when they are talking about an outing they are or have attended

The same world where everyone feels the need to include outdoors or fully vaccinated group when they are talking about an outing they are or have attended I have become firm in my “don’t apologize, don’t explain” policy when it comes to saying something I did or didn’t do. I’ve decided that if I know (general) you well enough to chat with you, you should know I’m doing what I think is best. And if you don’t, I probably don’t care about (general) your opinion.

There was some talk about only doing one dose to mitigate the cardiomyopathy risk, but I think delta variant squashed that because covid effects are much riskier than vaccine side effects.

Our base announced this morning they’ll allow ToTing limited to people who live in the neighborhood. I’m glad for the decreased risk but sad for the kids who can’t come in. Our neighborhood is well lit and very walkable, so it’s popular for kids who live in nearby apartment complexes.

When I hear people say this as they attend a 200+ wedding, I just feel they aren't up on current covid events. I judge. 🤷🏻♀️ Just admitting it.

The way I look at it is that we have ALWAYS all had different levels of risk that we are willing to engage in and our new Covid lives are no different than that. People base jump for funsies, so if someone is comfortable going to a 200+ wedding or on a vacation or whatever during a pandemic, then I feel they have calculated the level of risk and decided that it was worth it. The Pain Olympics has been replaced with the Covid Olympics. Very true. I think my irritation lately lies in the judgement shown towards some people vs others. Like idc what others do unless it directly affects me. And different scenarios require different mindsets. I just find it that some people are being hypocritical or OTT towards certain posters, which to me, is shitty. But TETO. Probably why I should just stay out of this thread.

But TETO. Probably why I should just stay out of this thread. I think there is value when people post how they're moving in a Covid world. Sometimes I feel my experience must be so different for regional reasons. So when other posters share experiences that are similar to mine, I'm all ears. I have a wedding next month, so seeing other people attending weddings and staying healthy or feeling uncomfortable or having fun, or whatever, is relevant to my interests. Just like a person who is on the fence about Trick-or-treating may feel reassured that other people have the same anxieties. Like @winomite said, everyone has different comfort levels, so I find the thread most realistic when the posts reflect that.

Thank you. My son is fine. Wouldn't know he is sick. DH is sick, like sick sick. Not getting worse, not getting better. I think he would be in serious trouble if not for being vaccinated. This is what I’ve heard from everyone I know with breakthrough cases that they would be in the hospital without the vaccine My dad is back to work today for the first time in 6 weeks from his breakthrough case. He had J&J and thinks he would have died if he wasn’t vaccinated. Even vaccinated he said he’s never felt that ill in his 62 years.

It is easy to spiral down a hole when you are only working with your own thoughts, so it can be nice to not only see what other people are doing, but their rationale behind it. That doesn't mean you have to agree with their choices or make the same choice.

I just lived a very different covid life with some of my besties this past weekend.
Part of me looks back at the web of anxiety and disease avoidance H and I have created for ourselves, and I wonder if we would do things differently if we had to do it all over again. But now this far in, I can't stop wanting to cocoon myself. I can only keep doing things the way I am and asking my friends and family to just respect my choices and tolerate my quirks.
I'm still the same pre-covid lady I was, just one held semi-captive by miss corona.

For myself (and I don't care who agrees or not)
I have re evaluated the risks that I am willing to take as a person or us as a family. We have no bubble and I'm not delusional about that.
As for today, I just said I will judge the "fully vaccinated" remark cause it doesn't mean what it was supposed to mean due to delta. That wasn't about any one person here.
I also did say don't explain.
However I really don't care what anyone here thinks of me or covid or me and covid. The people that I do care about their opinion, know me and that's it.
