Love your entire post, junch817! I'm rooting for Xander to win but see so much hate/disdain for his game elsewhere, some even calling him a goat, and that the jury doesn't respect his game/don't see him as a threat. He had a huge uphill battle going into the merge and even post-merge. That he has managed to go from being the biggest target to being UTR should be a testament to his gameplay IMO. I really, really want him to win and the haters have to eat crow tomorrow night.

That's interesting MelanieCarmichael. I was at a work thing yesterday and talked with someone who watches and he said he thinks Deshawn will win/should win. I don't see any way Deshawn wins unless he gets to the end with Erika and Heather and even then, I'm not sure he beats Erika.

Other than setting off truth-bombs at TC, what, exactly, has DeShawn done?
He could probably beat Heather, who is just kind of there.
I do not see him beating Erika (who has some gameplay although some luck, too, like the hourglass smash) or Xander.

I can’t wait to talk about the finale. Because the fire making challenge was totally fixed. There be some candle wax or something on one rope.

I know people are still watching so I won't spoil anything, but I'm not sure what happened at that final tribal. I clearly can't read a jury.

UNBELIEVABLE. Not even a single vote to Xander? WTF Even DeShawn got a vote, and for what? Creating chaos? Xanger absolutely was robbed.

Did anyone find that Ricard seemed a little bitter that Xander didn’t use his idol on him.

It was his one terrible move. With that said, Erika should never have won! Deshawn got a vote?! I didn’t watch the last 10 minutes because I started late, was exhausted and was so mad…. Did they show who voted who? I’m sure Danny voted for Deshawn. If Erika was going to win, it should at least have been close. Xander should have taken Heather. Erika and Deshawn would have battled and it looks like Deshawn may have still gotten to final 3. Then I would assume Xander would have easily won, but I truly don’t know because that jury apparently has no idea what they are doing.

junch817, he definitely should not have taken Erika. He made a miscalculation that looks like it cost him the game. If he HAD given Ricard the idol, he would have deserved to lose, that's for damned sure. Glad he wasn't that blinded by their friendship, which I do believe is genuine.

The Survivor recap I follow said that the jury felt Xander was too showy in how he played, whereas Erika played a stealthy game, and they were confused by his decision to bring Erika to the end which confirmed to them that he didn't have the "strategic chops" to win the game. They said he was never viewed as a great player and Erika was, or as close as she could be.
I'm still just so confused by what happened at the final tribals. When Xander walked into the final four tribal with immunity, Shan and Danny smiled and did a fist bump. I can't figure out why. I obviously incorrectly thought they were happy with the Xander win, but they didn't vote for him so that couldn't be it. It couldn't be because they were happy Deshawn and/or Erika hadn't won since they both got votes, so that just leaves being happy that Heather didn't win which also doesn't make any sense.
As I said before, I clearly didn't read the jury at all at the final tribal. I thought Naseer and Evvie were absolutely voting for Xander. I also thought the jury reacted positively to everything he said, with the only exception being his stumble on Liana's question. I thought he clearly explained why he chose Erika for the final three, not wanting to give her something else to build her resume. I'm frustrated that he didn't win, but even more so, I can't believe he didn't receive any votes. I think Xander mentioned on the after show that he underestimated Erika and her game and clearly I did too. She played a good game, but I didn't think it was better than Xander's and if she was considered such a threat and great player, why didn't anyone on the jury try to vote her out post-merge?

If everyone really thought Erika played such an amazing game, then the editing truly F’ed up this season.

GameNight, when they asked Xander to explain why he took Erika, (and even though I get what he was saying, it was still a terrible choice), several audibly made some noise showing they understood, and there were a ton of head nods right after he said it. Unless they used the wrong clip, it clearly looked like the jury was satisfied with his response. Aggghh!! I’m still so mad. I would have loved to cheer for Erika, and be pleased about all the things she accomplished with her win, but Xander was freaking robbed, and he should have gotten votes. Period.

lostinfaith225, I wonder if Ricard was used to Shan going along with his plans due to their close bond, like him holding onto the extra vote or whatever that advantage was, so he was upset that Xander didn't give him the idol considering how close they had become. But that would have been a horrible move and I think it's highly unlikely Ricard would have done the same if the tables were turned (unless he wanted to possibly roll the dice on winning the fire making challenge and padding his resume). I hope they've moved past that though because I think the Uncle Xander thing is really sweet. Given how everything played out, I'm not so sure if it were a Deshawn, Xander, Heather final that Deshawn wouldn't have won junch817. I didn't watch the after show so I don't know if Jeff did the usual thing of asking how the votes would have played out in a different final-three scenario.

GameNight, I also was confused by what happened at final tribal. I was thinking maybe they, Shan and Danny, were Team Xander until he flubbed his answers and thought Erika's explanations were more impressive; he changed their minds to his own detriment. I watched to the end, but I didn't see them reveal who had voted for whom, tho Jeff did say the remaining uncounted votes were also for Erika, that leaves the only question as "who gave DeShawn a vote" and yeah, maybe it was Danny.

They didn’t show the votes but something was said afterwards (can’t remember what specifically) that made MH and I both say oh I guess Xander didn’t get a single vote then?? I believe if he had, they’d have thrown his votes out there to add suspense before naming Erika the winner.

Y’all I’m sorry for blowing this thread up. We recorded and started late, not realizing this was the finale so we were up until almost 1am. I think they did an absolute shit job of editing the entire season for it to end with a win for Erika and not a single vote for Xander. He deserved to win, hands down.

I think Erika finding that advantage before the challenge was what caused Ricard to go out. If she didn’t have the advantage, Ricard would have won that challenge and then probably the game.

I think Erika finding that advantage before the challenge was what caused Ricard to go out. If she didn’t have the advantage, Ricard would have won that challenge and then probably the game. Agreed I also knew Xander wasn't going to win the way they were giving him the confident edit. It would have been too obvious.

I guess I see things differently because I actually thought Erika had a really strong second half of the game. I saw her making many more plans and controlling more votes than Xander. While Erika didn’t get a winner’s edit, I think the edit all along showed the everyone didn’t think much of Xander’s game. To me, the fact that they knew he had an idol and never tried to even get him to flush it was a sign that nobody was really threatened by having him in the end.
I actually thought it was a pretty strong final three and I really wasn’t sure who was going to win and would’ve been happy for any of them. I absolutely think that Erika deserved it and I don’t really view Xander as having been robbed.

I am also in team, this was a strong final 3. I didn’t think there was someone who was just brought along and did nothing.
I was surprised that Xander didn’t receive any votes. I did think he played a good game. I also think Ricard being bitter and going to the jury played a pet in him not receiving any votes. He probably talked Erika up big time to the jury.
I also think Erika stepped it up in the second half. As I recall, she was on the bottom before the merge. Everyone saw her as a threat early on and wanted her out. They knew she was smart.

I feel like this season started off badly, with 800 twists, only showing footage about people getting powers and no good gameplay talk, then it got better for a bit, but then it finished just as crummy as it started.
