I know you know how intense my F13 baby's anxiety can be and I remember you saying yours was having GI issues too so that is keeping me calm 💗 My youngest is 9 and she has had so many stomach problems. We’ve been to the GI doctor, done elimination diets, and everything else we can think of. Her pediatrician is generalized abdominal pain likely brought on by anxiety. I hate it so much because I can’t help beyond cuddle 😞 I'm sorry. That sounds really difficult 😕

I hate it for all of us, parents and littles, though it’s nice to hear her doctor validate her pain. When I was growing up, I was told (along with every other kid) they were fine when we complained of stomach pain. And then our parents would get upset when we were fine when we stayed home from school. It was likely anxiety the cause of it. I’ve got it pretty bad and have probably had it my whole life, so I try not to be dismissive. I know it can manifest in so many ways. My oldest can’t even do in person school because his ptsd and anxiety is so bad. He’s tried and he gets so ill. Parenting can be super fun 😕

I actually attended a webinar she hosted this week and it convinced me to absolutely get KN95's for my kids. Cloth masks aren't going to cut it against delta. 😭😭😭 I cannot afford to buy kn95 masks for my kid all the time given how limited use they are. The Vida kids masks 10 pk is $35, not sure but you could rotate thru them a new one every day. or the portugese multi layer cloth masks that were tested against covid 19, good for like 50 washes, but not sure they are shipping out of the country.

Like a Monday mask, a Tuesday mask, and so on.

This isn't directly rona related but I'm putting it here in case anyone us struggling and doesn't want to think about rona in the randoms
I'm listening to this podcast that I read about in the NYT. It is actually from spring of 2019 and features a small NH town as the entire US power grid shuts down. (I had forgotten what it was even about, it's just been hanging out on my saves for like a year and a half). It's interesting to hear how artists in 2019 thought that Americans would handle everything they took for granted as normal and routine being suddenly changed. I mean the predictable stuff happens in that kind of dystopia but I can't help but listen to these teenagers talking about how their lives completely changed overnight and looking at what we've all been through in the past 18 months. Idk. It's just interesting bc obviously the writers of this podcast had no idea they were a year out from the world turning upside down.

Most of these masks say to not wear longer than 8 hours. Can you let it “rest” and it will be ok to reuse again? I get confused about it. My dad has one of those UV light machines to clean his masks. Does that also work to reset a KN95?

I'm almost certain that HCW have had to reuse them. I think a UV light would work on it. But I'm not a science person so don't take my word for it.

We have been on the KN95 train for a long time now. If I am just wearing for errands, they are usually good for several trips. Mine generally last a week because I don’t go that many places. My kids get maybe 2 school days out of a mask. I set the old ones in a paper lunch bag in between trips.

Watching college football and the completely packed stadiums are ruining it for me. Super spreader events in the making.

I think either works, but the mask will start to physically deteriorate after several uses, so you can’t reuse them forever. And each reuse likely degrades the protection a little. I personally reuse the same KN95 for small errands or doctors appointments 4-5 times, airing it out in between. If I have to use one for a full day, I’d reuse it once or twice unless it got gross on the inside. DS has been using 2.5 um filters inside cloth masks from Vida for school. Their instructions say you can use them up to 7 times, so I’ve been using one per week and just airing them out well each night. If they got wet or dirty, I’d replace them immediately, but the fabric mask seems to protect them from yuck. I’m hoping to reuse DD’s KN95 masks 2-3 times once she starts preschool.

It also depends on how wet the kid gets the inside of the mask. I tend to wear a kn95 multiple times when I run errands, I keep one in the side console of my car and after 2-3 supermarket trips I toss it.
I wear one all day at work and i never refuse those but I guess it’s possible to. It just seems gross bc ive been breathing in it all day and sometimes when I take it off I notice food residue from me sneaking snacks in and then chewing with my mask on, but maybe that’s a me problem 😂🤦🏻♀️
For n95s we would throw them in a paper bag and let them sit for like 5 days before reusing

Have we discussed the guys who tried to forcibly zip tie an Arizona principal because of quarantine rules?! I had to double check the county because I have an uncle in AZ and this is the shit he would do 😪 I’ve fought quarantines (he was seated on the opposite side of the cafeteria from the positive case and didn’t meet the definition of close contact) but this is just absurd

Have we discussed the guys who tried to forcibly zip tie an Arizona principal because of quarantine rules?! This is insanity. ETA Just read a story. And of course the principal involved is a woman. I wonder if they would have been as aggressive with a male principal..

A neighboring district has reported an increase in parent violence against staff. This is from yesterday's article.
"Bullied, belittled, threatened and physically pushed or grabbed by parents."
This is scary and I wonder how we turn this around for the sake of what school should really be about.

Watching college football and the completely packed stadiums are ruining it for me. Super spreader events in the making. High school football isn't any better. When we went to the first game to watch DD1 march me and DD2 were the only ones on our side of the stadium wearing masks. Disappointing, but not surprising. :/

This is more of a random/vent but Covid related so I will put it in here if that’s okay. My family in TX wants to host Thanksgiving this year and I apparently am the only one even having second thoughts about recreational air travel right now. I am vaccinated but I guess I’m not that comfortable still. It feels like the whole world is trying to move on and I’m still in pandemic mode.

Our school board mandated the vaccine for staff...sort of. Either they need to get the vaccine or get tested weekly. Same. We got the email yesterday and I'm delighted.
