I do hope that my involuntary breakdown does help remind others that this isn't the same experience for everyone. I do know that one person in our specific division is not vaccinated. Given what I now know about her political leanings, this doesn't surprise me. She was in the meeting, stone faced and quiet the whole time. I have no idea if what any of us said got through to her. I'm more just hoping that our meeting next week goes well and that we get some movement toward our hybrid and/or more remote schedule continuing.
I was admittedly a little embarrassed and had to turn my video off for a few minutes to collect myself, but a few people reached out to me after the meeting was over and said they appreciated my raw emotions. If one thing good comes from this pandemic, I hope it is that people feel more comfortable discussing their mental health with their employers to the extent it affects their job performance, without worrying about backlash or stigma.

Hrm.
I took the kids to a playground they love this morning and DS2 only played for about 5 minutes. He said he didn't like being on a crowded playground where the other kids weren't masked. Then on the way home he said he felt car sick (he does get car sick sometimes but not usually on a 20 minute drive). Now he's complaining of nausea and a headache. This is making me a little bit concerned

dc2london, hope he feels better or, if not, it's just a 'routine' virus. And that if you do feel like getting a COVID test, it's quick and easy to schedule. And of course it's the holiday weekend - nothing ever seems to happen during the regular 'work week', right?

It's always on Friday, lol If he isn't 100% tomorrow morning I'll get a home test kit at least. He accidentally punched the wall playing with his punching bag so we could be headed for UC for an x ray either way. Kids!

A lot of kids were sent home for headaches at DS’s school over the past two weeks. Which, it was 95 degrees and pollen season is in full force, so kids will have headaches this time of year. Basically, if a kid is feeling unwell enough to complain a lot or ask to be sent to the nurse, they are being sent home and need to get tested to return. I assume the school is just trying to be extra careful to avoid outbreaks since Delta is such a sneaky bastard. Oh wow I haven't seen any of this It may have been specific to DS’s school - he had a couple classmates sent home early last week for headaches/fatigue/hyperventilating and there was a whole conversation on our neighborhood Facebook group about where to go to get a quick turn-around PCR because it happened to so many kids in the school. They were basically getting sick after recess in 95 degree heat. Thankfully, we haven’t had any more positives since the second day of school (a teacher who was already quarantining because of a known exposure). No known student cases. But lots of kids getting tested, which is annoying for parents, but also probably what needs to happen to avoid spread in school.

I’m not going to say that hopefully it’s anxiety because anxiety sucks, but hopefully it isn’t germs. ❤️

So this is an outlying school district but pretty close to me. Part of what they sent to Parent/Student
Today X School District had 131/363 students out for the flu, COVID 19, and contact with positive COVID cases. Out of the students who tested for COVID there were over 15% testing positive for COVID. Both the MS football and volleyball teams have been quarantined. The district's goal is to continue face to face learning as much as possible. After much discussion over the best plan to move forward we have decided to utilize the three day weekend in addition to Thursday and Friday to give the flu and COVID a chance to decrease transmission over the five days. Staff will be working on deep cleaning, and curriculum solutions. No school for all students Thursday and Friday, September 2nd and 3rd. No classwork on these two days.
so Idaho is doing FANTASTIC on this group project.

There are radio ads about packing the football stadium at the UofI this weekend. So obviously football is more important than health. Given the UofI's other policies surrounding covid, I had hopes in the other direction.

dc2londonDD1 anxiety definitely makes her nauseous and gives her heartburn. That literally sounds exactly how DD would act during an anxiety attack.

dc2london my goodness, poor kid! I hope he’s feeling better soon and that it isn’t covid. I also found out today that a colleague who works in a different office than me (but with most of the rest of our office — our division is like on its own in a different building) caught a breakthrough case of COVID and passed it to her 2 year old (she said she’s fully vaxxed and wears masks etc and I have no reason to doubt her). They are both mild thankfully but it is illustrative of our concerns that one person unknowingly could pass it to so many others in the office quickly.

I actually attended a webinar she hosted this week and it convinced me to absolutely get KN95's for my kids. Cloth masks aren't going to cut it against delta.

But the schools here that are requiring masks are doing so much better than those that aren’t. KN95 is probably best in schools (like mine) without a mask requirement but I continue to maintain the best mask is the one worn. That means cloth it is for DD. It sucks that things are so much worse right now. We got an email tonight from our district with a Covid update. “Please talk to your doctor to see if wearing a mask is right for you or your child.” Actual wording. ZOMG.

And some drs say KN95 aren't great for younger kids bc they become less effective when wet.

We’ve been to the GI doctor, done elimination diets, and everything else we can think of. Her pediatrician is generalized abdominal pain likely brought on by anxiety. I hate it so much because I can’t help beyond cuddle 😞
