How do we feel about taking kids to the dentist right now? My kids are scheduled for Monday but I'm thinking of pushing it off until they are vaccinated. We went in the spring and it was fine but Delta makes me nervous. I went in to grab papers for school and the receptionists were not wearing masks. They have individual rooms butcould there still be virus in the air from the previous patient?

My enro masks have traveled all across the country, from Texas to Kansas to Iowa then to Pennsylvania and now they are back in Iowa so we'll see if I get them soon 🤦🏻♀️

We have kept up on routine medical for the kids because it really is important to keep up with, especially during development.

Yes, we’ve been keeping up with the dentist (ours is very cautious) and other maintenance doctors appointment/specialists.

Two more urgent cares around me have closed to redirect staff to the ERs. That’s on top of the one already closed to all but those seeking asymptomatic covid tests and all the ones that went appointment only.
DD’s allergist wants to place her on prophylactic antibiotics until whenever her surgery is, and at this point, I’m willing to do it and risk antibiotic resistant infections to avoid needing to seek out urgent care after Tuesday nights debacle to get her seen for an asymptomatic ear infection (I found it with my ear scope when I checked after a hunch but obviously needed a doc to confirm)

I feel like we’re so close to getting them vaccinated and a few months for a regular check up will be fine.

I really want a booster shot. Kids are dropping like flies around me every day at school. It feels like a when, not an if, of catching covid again. Especially since I've already had two exposures.
I was thinking of getting it in a few weeks when H is out of town and the kids and I stay at my parents, since I can lump around and let me folks handle the kids if I feel shitty.
But I also got Moderna so I should probably wait?
I hate all of this.

My mom's school is going virtual next week because they don't have enough staff to be open. Those with covid aren't vaxxed, and the others are in quarantine.

Our dentist has amazing protocols. You fill out a health questionnaire the morning before your appointment. If you fail you have to reschedule. You text a number when you pull into the parking lot. They text you to come in when it’s your turn. Only people in the building during an appointment are two hygenists, admin assistant and the dentist plus no more than two patients. Parents can choose to send kids over 11 in by themselves. They have spent $$ on new air filtration and some sort of fancy self cleaning door handles. I wish the schools took things this seriously.

We’ve still been doing dental visits. I question every time if it’s worth the risk but the kid’s dentist office has been really diligent. They have an appointment next week and I’ve been wondering if I should postpone since we’re hopefully so close to kid vaccines. The reminder text they sent today mentioned the delta variant and that they’re still following the same precautions so I’ll likely keep the appointment.
My dentist’s office, on the other hand, made me super uncomfortable at my recent cleaning. It was all business as usual as if covid isn’t a thing anymore. I was the only one in the waiting room wearing a mask and none of the employees wore one until they started working on a patient. It was really upsetting to me and made me question my care because obviously they weren’t that concerned about our safety. Now I have to find a new dentist and it sucks because I’ve gone there for years and always felt confident in the care they gave.

I wish waiting in your car for appointments until the place is ready for you would remain a thing forever. I’d much rather wait in my car than in the waiting room.

He had his first cavities so we’ve had to go back twice now for procedures during delta. They couldn’t wait so we just did it. He gets tested weekly so we will know quickly I guess. He just finished his second appointment and now we will wait until his next check up but I won’t be delaying any more care.

nelzie I’ve kept our regular dental appointments for DS, but our office is really careful and everyone wears masks the whole time. I wouldnt be comfortable if they were more lax, like I think your region is?

When I had to get paperwork for school last month the receptionists weren't wearing masks and no one in the waiting room was either. I may call in the morning to see if they are doing anything more now.

I'm going to call in the morning and see if they are even doing any covid precautions.

nelzie my oldest broke a tooth so we had to go. I was not impressed with their precautions (desk workers did not mask) so we shopped for a new office afterwards. Our new dentist has sealed patient rooms and is so careful. Just ask questions. Even in our lands of no precautions, some places are good!

A little girl from my class is showing symptoms of Covid and is going to the doctor today. She does pretty well with her mask, but she has moments of upset that require us to breathe with her.
My stomach is in knots.

Our office has air purifiers everywhere, plastic barriers, masks and are diligent so I was okay with it. Our numbers are vastly different than the US though, so I understand your hesitancy. Maybe call and ask about what measures they have in place and gauge from there if you feel more comfortable?

Yeah we held off on dentists visits for for DS1 and it bit us. He had cavities that went undetected so they required caps. But I’m in a mask mandate state. The pediatric dentist that’s doing his work is super strict (wait in car, masks for all, masks and sheilds on workers, can’t come for an appt for 4 weeks after exposure etc).

i live in a rural area. Last I knew we are less than 40% vaccinated. It’a a lot of my body my choice people and that Covid is a cold. Our closest hospital is 30 minutes and that’s not equipped for a lot of Covid patients so they get transferred an hour away. And yes they skew very republican here. I think there’s less than 100 registered Democrats where I am.
